I can see him being so clinical for us this season, all he needs is one chance

I said this is match day thread but as long as Rooney is behind him we will never see Ibra's best.

Hes come from PSG where he had ADM feeding him defence splitting passes and constant movement. Rooney does none of that.

He will still it double figures though fairly easily

4-3-3 all the way for me. Would get the best out of him and Pogba. Fast runners on the wings. Won't happen in a hurry though.

That's what we brought him in for. Quiet all game but when he gets his half chance there's no mistake. We've missed having someone like that.

Did not perform well today as he can obviously, but he showed great power to out muscle Morgan twice in the game which was pleasing.

I would like to see him in Rooneys position with Rashford up top as he drops deep too often to lead the line.

Also did that freeherrera guy get banned for his Zlatan comment?

Seems very harsh as it was just wrong not offensive.

Good thing then that we have many alternatives to Rooney in the number 10 role...

Put Rashford to play alongside him and we'll be golden... Everything broke down around Rooney as it so often has lately, so Ibra couldn't really link up with anyone. Still had decent moments and some poor ones where he would normally do better, but he got the winner in the end and that's what matters.

Ibra is a good finisher but not Inzaghi, Trezeguet or van Nistelrooy that he will play like that. He's more involved and less clinical.

Wasn't that good to be honest. Had some really poor touches. But did get the goal which matters most. If we persist with Ibra and Rooney, I fear for our season especially if Rooney carries on playing so shite and still gets picked.

Zlatan is going to need better service than United strikers have received since Fergie's final season/RVP having a jolly old time

Thank God for Tony V

It's been a while since we had someone up front to score a header like that.

He just gets the ball into the net. It won't work with him and Rooney though, the latter being the main problem.

He won't work with Rooney around him. He needs pacey players who can go on the wing to either make space for him or to think and run fast

Think we'll see a few games like that from him. Not contributing a great deal overall, but popping up when it matters.

His general play was subpar today, a lot of passes and touches weren't coming off but I'm glad he managed to pop up with a vital game winning goal. It was a really good header too, overpowering a really strong defender in Morgan. Zlatan's all around play will improve with more match sharpness but he'll need better service than what he got today. Rooney is a major concern in that #10 role but signing Pogba should help a lot.

Yep, I have said this numerous times. It's exactly what he needs, and he will provide great service as well.

Did he just diss Inter in his post game interview? Wasn't he a bigger legend there than at Milan and Juve?

Him and Rooney can definitely play in the same team it is really quite clear what we are trying to do, Zlatan in the box rooney on the edge to pick up scraps and finish from there which he is good at. I think both will get 15 in the league this season. This match was a bad example because we were so disjointed, i think we will be more advanced and dominant as a rule of thumb, keeping the opposition in their own half. They don't know each others games well enough yet but they will and when that happens I think we will see a really quite potent attack.

I liked it how the commentators said he's lost all his pace, I don't think he was ever blessed with tremendous pace even in his prime.

Some ncie hold up play but him and Rooney are in each others space way too often, it reminds me of the Rooney/Berba issues. His towering header was a beaut and I glad he got his competitive United career off to a strong start with a Wembley winner.

ZLATAN REACTS TO 'AMAZING' WEMBLEY WINNER
Zlatan Ibrahimovic admits it felt “amazing” to score the goal that secured the FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium during his official Manchester United debut on Sunday.

Jesse Lingard broke the deadlock with a superb first-half opener and Jamie Vardy later equalised at the beginning of the second half. Just as a penalty shootout looked likely, Ibrahimovic rose at the back post to head Antonio Valencia’s cross past Kasper Schmeichel on 83 minutes.

The 34-year-old Swedish striker spoke exclusively to MUTV following the final whistle in London and he was evidently delighted to claim a trophy from his first competitive match for United.

“It feels amazing to win the first official game,” Ibrahimovic admitted. “I’ve been here a couple of weeks and I get to win my first trophy with United. I mean this is what we play for.

“We play for the trophies and I’m super happy and super excited for the goal - but especially for the win because it’s a trophy for the team. This is what we work hard for and sacrifice.

“When you can win it is even more amazing but all the credit to Leicester as well, because they played a good game and they had a fantastic last season. You can see it’s a strong team.”

After scoring the winner Ibrahimovic can now look forward to the future and the start of the Premier League season next weekend. The summer signing is confident that his performances will improve as the weeks go by, as he develops a greater understanding with his new team-mates.

“It feels good to be in Manchester United and this is what counts,” Ibra explained to MUTV. “My individual performances will come. We’re in the beginning and building up my physique, my conditioning, and I am yet to know the team-mates.

“When all these things are settled, things grow easily. You can then just play your game and enjoy. Things are coming together. We’re in the beginning and we’re just getting to know each other, especially with me. That is new and we won today and hopefully we can win more
Ibra's interview to MUTV, think he will come into his own after 3-4 games, he has had no pre season and had a long season with PSG and then with sweden. I think once he is fully fit and understands the team and vice-a-versa he will be great for us, He needs games in those legs. I think he will be better by end of august.

It was frustrating to see him work hard, with little reward until the 85th minute. He made a lot of runs, but the final ball to him was poor. When we started going through the middle in the second half and using him a pivot, then he started to become more effective.

I can really see Mkhi being a great source of assists for him, as well as Mata if he gets played.

When he drops deep it moves the backline out of position, or at the very least one of the #6s. Someone needs to move into the new space and capitalise on that. That someone is not Rooney, who wants to drop deep as well. In my opinion we need to play a 4-3-3 where Pogba capitalises on this or we need to play Mkhitaryan behind him/ Rashford beside him. It is just not going to work with Rooney in the team.

His performance today was OK. Once the players get on the same wavelength and they've all been de-LVGised then I suspect play will dramatically improve.

His hold up play is something we've severely lacked in recent years, the winning goal just said everything about the player we've signed

If he scores and we win, I couldn't care less how he's played. He's paid to score the goals, I'm even more convinced he will after today.
