It's not the results. It's the lack of a game plan. Can you look at our team, and tell me what our attacking philosophy is? What's our best formation? What's our best midfield? What's Fellaini doing in the team? After 4 months in charge, I would have hoped that a world class coach would have some answers.

Except Pep's "tough run" still leaves City first in the league. And Conte's "bad patch" still leaves Chelsea 4th.

It's utterly absurd and deluded to claim that Mourinho has a tougher job than Klopp or Conte, both of whom took over teams who finished below us last season and didn't win a cup, and both of whom who have got their teams playing good, successful football. They're in second and fourth respectively. And it's not like they've had an easier run of games than us - they've played just as many difficult matches.

Even City only just pipped us to fourth last year and yet Pep has them top of the league.

The odd one out here is Mourinho, and claiming he just needs more time and has the hardest job in the league is ridiculous when other managers have taken over worse-placed teams and have completely outshone him. It's damning evidence against Mourinho that Pep, Conte and Klopp have come in and had the exact instant impact on their teams that Mourinho has so obviously failed to achieve himself.
This is the strangest thing that fans spout. They act as though he has just taken over from Moyes with all the same players from Fergie's last season and the same internal set up. it has been 3 years. we finished joint 4th. we signed supposedly top players to make a strong spine. We have gone backwards for some reason whilst others are moving forward

I don't know he is done or not, but all the signs look like he is done.
Its still early but I had said same thing for LVG and Moyes.

Not 10 games in they werent
LVG was afforded very kind treatment early on because he wasn't Moyes. Moyes was getting criticism 10 games in but the people calling for his sacking were still being chided.

The way he reacted at the end to Conte and his constant brooding nature, are very worrying signs.

People need to chill the feck out. We're surprisingly only 6 points off city. Those points can be caught up very quickly. Let's not lose the faith just yet.

Of course he has to be given time. But he better start showing some results. He was given a war chest in the summer to sort this out.

We are six points behind top spot with the bulk of the season to play. Neither we or Mou are done, not by a long way.
This is the positive. The premier league is justifying the hype.Everyone is dropping points each week last season. Heck even Pep can't buy a win. The only thing that can arrest this is if Jose changes his mindset and tactics. Put some flair on the wings and in midfield. No more robotic shit

I think it's still early days and judgment should be reserved until at least January!

Hopefully we get top 4 this year. We have the players to do so. We just need to select the right ones and have them play as a team.

It's worrying but anyone writing Mourinho off now is being silly. But then again the Cafe thinks the last manager was shite and he won us our first trophy since Fergie left.

Anyway I'm off back to the shelter.

Klopp had less points at the equivalent stage of his Liverpool career though, he didn't have an instant impact at all.
Klopp also had no pre-season and wasnt able to sign players to his gusto. He was thrown in in the middle of the season and I also remember that he needed to face a tough schedule right from the start. Despite all that problems, it was instantly to see that Klopp was putting his stamp on that team. Liverpool also had to suffer the EL inconvenience, so he didnt have the time to train gegenpressing in detail nor to get his players in the physical top condition, that is absolutely necessary for his style of football.

We've won one game in the last 6 in the league. At the beginning of the season most thought we were in the title race, but no team in our current position at this time has won it. We've won about half the potential points we could have in the league and we've not had one game where we've not fecked up in one way or another.
Since the season began we've regressed.

Presumably because of the fact he was.

Without derailing this thread any further, there are any number of active threads ongoing that talk about the difference in organizational structure between United and most other clubs. This would be an example of one.
I post in that thread. I am still not convinced. I am looking for specifics as to how United differ to Liverpool and Chelsea which makes it easier for their new managers to hit the ground running, and not ours. Everyone seems to know all the inns and outs about United e.g. it is "Fergie United" but haven't given me evidence as to how the running of the clubs differ today. I am referring to Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and the teams above us.

It would currently look like Liverpool had a decent squad that had some obvious structural weaknesses that were easy to address & Klopp had done this, revved the place up, instilled some confidence & gotten things looking good, and provided a few thrills along the way.

SAFs last few years - I dunno... complacency, mix & match transfers, just doing enough to still win, bit of natural decline after 2007-2009 Ronaldo team

Moyes - didn't know what to do, left a tiny bit of a dog's dinner of a squad with the label of (but who were) Champions. Not an easy job. Should have done better.

LVG - might have known what to do but was a bad fit stylistically & a bit potty so got a hard time. Judged by previous standards didn't do enough. Probably not able to do much more. Possibly appointed just as a safe pair of hands while we waited for a better alternative and/or gave it to Giggsy - an option that was bottled, obviously.

Mourinho - well... decent squad that needs minor tinkering, he can do that surely? Big personality, we'll be fine (at least in the short term....) It'll be like Klopp at LFC, was that what we hoping, expecting?

Or are we actually now a bit shit?

Pogba is a good sensible signing (albeit overpriced) but Fellaini still gets in the team & can still 'do a job' which is grim because he should never have arrived in the first place & the people he keeps out of the team who will never be good enough either, seem to increase in number with every year the big lump is here, let's put Carrick back in the team

And to top & tail this post, we don't have quite the attacking quality of Liverpool (but I think Martial, Rashford might get there) we bring in Zlatan when we already have Rooney clogging up the hierarchy & position, 2 elephants !!! Not helping ourselves are we. Now have problems further up the scale from buying a GK who isn't Mignolet & keeping Moreno on the bench.

Disappointed today, but not surprised.

He isnt a rebuild manager and that wasnt what you brought him in for. But plans change, and hes gonna have to be a rebuild manager. LvG had the right idea, but it wasnt executed well. Even as an "instant success" manager, I feel Mourinho could do a better job at rebuilding than LvG could.

As for how poor Mourinho has been. In terms of instant success? Cant say yet, but after the games we've seen, this is not how everyone envisiged your season starting. After 3/4 games I think this season, when everything seemed fine and dandy, I was saying how you're guranteed for the title. As were a lot of people, you were sitting pretty near the top.

But I really do think its just fans having to re-adjust their expectation, before a ball was kicked the names of Pogba and Zlatan and Mhik were driving fans to believe that you would win the title straight away. Well.... now you know thats not gonna happen (probably), and the process of lowering the bar is not something that is easily done. Its a process filled with hesitance "should I lower it? Should I leave it? If I leave it i may not hit he target, but then if i lower it isnt that kinda like cheating? Since im making it easier for myself" Its a process filled with anger, since you feel like you shouldnt even be in this situation to begin with.

Thats my opinion anyway, I think had Jose come in and said its going to be a long process, this season Im aiming for top four but really I just want to cement my style of football. Then fans would have more paitience. But he didnt. He came in and it seemed like he was gonna blow the league apart and return the glory days within in a blink of an eye.
its hard to believe his ego wouldn't believe that. All the big talk, big transfers, scoffing at Europa etc. We might be at a stage where football caught up with Jose, everyone knows what he is about. People like Ferguson were always willing to adapt, new coaches/assistants to keep things fresh.

Yeah. Don't do any unless it is absolutely necessary.

I'll be honest, I'm starting to worry now. It's 2 years in a row he's made fecking terrible starts to the season.

We don't look much different to how Chelsea did this time last year. It's now 1 league win in 6 games.

I don't see him as done. Nor do I see him as a bad manager. We've been playing quite good lately I have even thought.

The players are getting way too little stick for this, compared to how much Jose is getting. Way too many personal faults, and they somehow fall back on Jose. He might be at fault for some of it, but we're just not cynical enough (Zlatan), and it falls back on Mourinho again. 3 times now, he has missed big match-winning or game-deciding chances (Stoke, Liverpool, Chelsea). And if we had scored those, Jose would have been in the title race and gotten all the praise.

Lets just wait and see. Positive from this is we should.....should go out weds hungry and wanting to prove a point.

I dont get the micky situation though? Is he fit? Why did we sign such a talented player if he isnt going to play?

Then Jose needs to act now and drop him. Play another striker against Man City.

Klopp and Conte have far more support in-place to allow them to do their jobs. Klopp and Conte are first team coaches. The depth of responsibility for Mourinho at United cannot be compared to what Klopp and Conte have to do for their clubs. Additionally, the structure surrounding Klopp and Conte is much more cond
All Chelsea's structure for example did not really help Mourinho last year, did it?

Based on todays appearance I think that would make sense. Also on the counters, where we need to be dynamic. I really really wish Martial would up his form, so we have a good alternative to Zlatan.

Top managers learn from their mistakes. Lets hope Mourinho has learned enough about Fellaini.

Sure, but Mourinho almost always ends up clashing with his peers at a club. Not every coach wants the same level of control as Mourinho, and not every coach is as abrasive to work with as Mourinho. Him and Emenalo butting heads is hardly surprising given what happened during his last stint at Chelsea and what happened between Mourinho and Perez at Real. Moratti was the only director he's ever been able to co-exist with, and that's only because Moratti generally deferred to him. It's why I thought Mourinho would relish this job...because he'd have what he's always wanted at a club (absolute power).

Christ people are knee jerking. He took over a side that has been poor for 3 years and he's supposed to have magically transformed them into Champions in 12 weeks? Given time he will get it right.

I hope you're right, but this is becoming a very generic statement on this forum.

We have to give him at least 1 and half year to see either way. I hope he is not done for the sake of United.

His approachs to big games home or away have been a tad shit overall imo. But then again we know what we were going to get from him in those.

People talking about squad being shit. They may be right partially but then again the biggest trait or quality of being a good/great manger is raising his players's level. He has not been done it so far yet. Not much at least.

But, it is still still too early to say either way.

Weill right now either way it does not look any brighter for Jose. Say he got this "power" he supposedly was after, if it meant more saying in terms of transfers, he certainly got that. And right now, it looks like he is failing badly. Pogba is playing more like a 10m cast out rather than a world's most expensive player, Ibra is looking way off after a bright start. Mkhitaryan is not even in the team. Bailly was sort of success, but in a very relative terms. He was part of our defence in virtually every game and our defence was not very good in most of them. He certainly was not any good today and he was not any good against City, Watford, etc.
