It would currently look like Liverpool had a decent squad that had some obvious structural weaknesses that were easy to address & Klopp had done this, revved the place up, instilled some confidence & gotten things looking good, and provided a few thrills along the way.
SAFs last few years - I dunno... complacency, mix & match transfers, just doing enough to still win, bit of natural decline after 2007-2009 Ronaldo team
Moyes - didn't know what to do, left a tiny bit of a dog's dinner of a squad with the label of (but who were) Champions. Not an easy job. Should have done better.
LVG - might have known what to do but was a bad fit stylistically & a bit potty so got a hard time. Judged by previous standards didn't do enough. Probably not able to do much more. Possibly appointed just as a safe pair of hands while we waited for a better alternative and/or gave it to Giggsy - an option that was bottled, obviously.
Mourinho - well... decent squad that needs minor tinkering, he can do that surely? Big personality, we'll be fine (at least in the short term....) It'll be like Klopp at LFC, was that what we hoping, expecting?
Or are we actually now a bit shit?
Pogba is a good sensible signing (albeit overpriced) but Fellaini still gets in the team & can still 'do a job' which is grim because he should never have arrived in the first place & the people he keeps out of the team who will never be good enough either, seem to increase in number with every year the big lump is here, let's put Carrick back in the team
And to top & tail this post, we don't have quite the attacking quality of Liverpool (but I think Martial, Rashford might get there) we bring in Zlatan when we already have Rooney clogging up the hierarchy & position, 2 elephants !!! Not helping ourselves are we. Now have problems further up the scale from buying a GK who isn't Mignolet & keeping Moreno on the bench.
Disappointed today, but not surprised.
