Rusty like an old King Tiger II tank but when he came on we had a huge experience on the field. I doubt Jose will magically sign a brilliant centre midfielder in January so perhaps it's not over yet for him.

Hopefully he'll fight to the end. It was his dream to be here.

Brilliant assist for the assist! Our best player when fit. Needs to play every game, will end the season as top scorer.
Needs to get more and more match time to get into rhythm as he will not get that with just training. That he is good for a goal or an assist or a pass etc. is something that has nothing to do with form.

Great moment for a modern great - hopefully he still has a role to play, his quality has never been in doubt.

Delighted to see him get some minutes. Didn't think we'll ever see him with the red shirt again, but I guess life's full of surprises.

I'm glad he got the chance to play for us again and, most of all, to see and hear the crowd's fantastic reaction. He looked very happy to get involved and couldn't stop smiling.

Even if this was his last game for us (hope not), I think we're all glad he got his moment.

To be fair to Basti, he didn't complain once about being dropped and not allowed train. He's social media post he always was smiling with United/Training pictures and had a positive attitude. How many good players in the world would be that cool? less than 1%.

Hopefully a sign that Jose still considers him an option. I'd be very happy rotating him and Carrick once they are playing well.

He didnt look fat :P

TBH, credit to him for getting his head down, not jetting off but staying to train, not complaining etc, getting back into training with the first team and now getting his first minutes for us. Could and would have been easy to just complain and undermine the manager , but glad he didnt.
And credit to Jose for not being so stubborn that he wouldnt go back on his word.

We need to do what we did last season in the beginning with the swapping and rotating of Carrick/Basti imo. Hes 32 and can still have a role to play.

Don't sign old players and cast offs
BS does deserve credit for the way he's kept his situation private and givin no public criticism of the club or management.

As for the cameo tonight, he looked physically fecked after a couple of runs. I wouldn't hold out hope for 90 minutes too soon.

Its a bit confusing why Mourinho dumped him down like he has. He is obviously a better player then Schneiderlin and Fellaini and can give us that holding role when Carrick cant, or at least off the bench. Feel like its either effort in training, or just Schweiny not being that committed? If Mourinho told him to just lose a bit of weight and be more fit I'm sure he wouldve. Maybe hes just too injury prone or something. Its strange anyway.

His urgency created the 4th goal. I'm giving both the goal and the assist to him..

It's more to do with LVG's unfair favoritism toward him last year that he's isolated in the dressing room. Mourinho as some rumors stated secretly rate Bastian himself (and I believe so seeing Bastian style in good form is similar to Mourinho's midfielder). So Bastian needs to be punished for last season for the sake of keeping the dressing room happy and ease back into the team through effort and commitment from Bastian part, which seem like he did.

Idk if he will play again. But, credit to both the manager and player though. They handled it the best they could and it is coming nicely for both as well.

That reception, wow. that'll stay with him for the rest of his life. You could see as his name was announced he had a little smile, that definitely got to him.

How close was that shot also! what a story that could have been

Still think he's 4th choice behind Pogba/Carrick/Herrera, but I am sure he will be happy to atleast be making the bench.

Its a funny old game
I love the guy. The fact that he knuckled down without complaining and worked his way back in to the team shows what a legend he is. Imagine if he'd scored with that shot! It would have been so cool! Good luck Basti. I hope you get more chances to play

I remember 2014 when he was not 100% fit and not inform because of that, but had to play for Germany in WC (or was it Euros 2012? Im not 100% sure anymore) he publicly told Löw that he should bench him as he couldn't help the team at his best. Which player would do that in such an important competition even if hes not at 100%?

He's always been a perfect professional, and that's the reason why people in Germany are rioting towards United/Mourinho this season because he don't deserve such a treatment.

Absolutely thrilled for the guy. A legend of the game who has been treated very poorly by Jose. Very surprised to see him included, however he is more than good enough to contribute for us. Should be rotated between him and Carrick in who sits in front of the back 4

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
I don't understand Mourinho, he doesn't look like a manager that "gives" games, so does he count on BFS? Did Carrick and BFS changed his mind?
I like to think Mourinho has realised how ridiculously reliant we still are on Carrick for the team to actually function properly. And Carrick probably should only play once a week, so he may have turned to Schweinsteiger to hopefully be able to play that role in the other game. He's not as good as Carrick for that role, but if he can get into form he's probably the closest we have.

Either that or he's just putting him in the shop window to remind other teams that he's fit and available.

This is a player who, in his Munich days, was seen frequently kicking a ball around with a couple of mates at the Englischer Garten. It wasn't unusual to meet him at the stands at some FCB youth or amateur match on his free sunday, either. That fella, whatever one could say for or against him, simply loves the sport of football.
