Klopp can feck off.

Against Liverpool, tactics are always, always secondary to the result.

If we meet again at Wembley and Jose decides to hoof it for the full 90 minutes, as long as we win I for one will not give a feck.

In fact it'll be worth it just to hear Klopp and the Scousers gripe about it afterwards.

If his primary tactic is squirting tubes of Deep Heat up his players arseholes so they run around like loons for 90 minutes, that's hardly the pinnacle of tactical sophistication either is it?

Wow, I'm only after seeing that interview. He said that Liverpool were the better team, played better football and had the better game plan!?! Is he for real?:houllier:

I really think he was trying to be a WUM in that interview. What a deluded plonker!

Probably that's why we were the team doing all the attacking at the end of the game, trying to win it ? Must be.

These stats don't look like they bear out your theory: Total Shots : United 9 (3) - Liverpool 13 (4).
Sorry but you only bumped up your shot count at the end as United were trying to win it and went three at the back. We went all in and naturally you had a few men over on the counter.

Agree. And Pogba and Mkhi had clearer chance than any of that Dutch midfielder (2?), Coutinho, Firminio shot. If we got the equalizer in early, then with 4 at the back, we would limit L'pool with fewer shot at goal. L'pool was more aimless with their attempt.

Seem like Klopp can't hide his subtle Mr Philosopher well anymore these days. Complain about other team not playing into his hand...

Liverpool only tested DDG at the end of the game. Prior to that he was a bystander. Mingolet was frequently busy and made some world class saves.

Ultimately it's our fault as we didn't take our chances in the first half and left ourselves chasing the game which made Klopp's job alot easier. Towards the end we went for it and had 6 men up top with no holding midfielder and 3 at the back. We were obviously going to get hit on the break but gambled and got the equaliser but couldn't find a winner.

First half when we played our natural game Liverpool didn't have a sniff and were cut open a few times through the middle of the park. Conceding such a silly penalty spoilt our game plan really.

More points dropped for Liverpool and United still unbeaten in 16 straight. Nothing between the top 6 with plenty to play.

I'm not a fan of this calling out other teams for playing certain styles tbh.
Every time I see anyone go down that route I remember that young brainless pizza-throwing Cesc Fabregas having a pop at Mark Hughes because Blackburn had frustrated them. "And you played for Barcelona? You should be ashamed!".

And Arsenal have since won...

Exactly.

Utd had more of the ball which I expected at OT but your finishing was rubbish. You had a few good chances especially first half but ironically I thought for the most part we were comfortable in that half.

Second half, when you started going direct you didn't create as many clear cut chances but we couldn't get out until coutinho came on. He steadied us for a bit.

The thing about the long ball is that it also takes out your midfield so whilst it is very effective in countering the high press you lose some of the finesse and build up play which has been evident in your recent good run. It's a trade off, and sometimes ur midfield can pick up the second ball, but I thought we dealt with most of your long balls quite well.

Oh btw u also dropped points today - and u needed them much more than we did. We were staying top 4 no matter what the outcome. There is plenty between 1st place and sixth.

Klopp's proving himself to be a cnut. Glad I never bought into his Dortmund hype.

On a slightly related note, I never hated Jose, and thought his post match interview after Fergies's last European game for us was proper classy.

Jose always was quite respectful toward Utd and considering his track record with other opponents it was definitely the exception which proved the rule - the reason being he wanted the OT job. It was a long play from him and he got what he wanted in the end.

They had a game plan which clearly involved stifling our attack first and then hitting us on the counter second and so the goal played into their hands nicely and suited exactly what they came to achieve with their game plan. Thus, they were the better side in that sense but him crying about the direct route is just plain embarrassing and him being a total fanny.

Impressed with how klopp originally set his team out and impressed with how Jose changed his tactic, regardless of long balling it's a genuine strategy and it definitely worked, sure it cut out our midfield but with the way Pogba was playing and the fact we weren't running the 4-3-3 anymore, the formation Pogba excels within, it was the correct decision to play long ball and more direct.

If Rashford had gotten on instead of Rooney we would have given your right back a right mare, he didn't play that well considering he's just a youngster and Rashford plays in the 1v2 really well, something you used vs Martial earlier in the game.

Coutinho is class, he is very very good and would be surprised to not see him move to a bigger club such as Barca/Madrid/Bayern etc. He unlocked our defence in 3 touches it was incredible.

Manchester United and Liverpool right now are definitely around the same level, we had more clear cut chances and ur general strategy was better. Positives for both teams, we'll both finish top 4 at the expense of City and Arsenal and rightfully so. This game shows where we stand, you have a really really small chance at the title but with the way Spurs are playing I now doubt it, they're next in the pecking order after Chelsea. We both needed the points today, the full 3, we needed them to put us in a good position for top 4 with an outside shot of the title but you guys needed points because you drop a bunch vs weak teams such as Sunderland which has affected your title winning chances which I believe are close to out the window.

Poor game overall but glad to see how the managers diversified and changed strategies to counter eachother for sure, both class managers in a class league, top 6 is very exciting.

It would have been interesting to see how you continued in the game if the penalty hadn't of happened as in the first half you didn't create a single chance. You only seemed to be able to open us up when we adopted a more gung-ho approach later in the 2nd half and with the appearance of Coutinho helping you retain the ball (and with us minus our holding player Carrick).

I think it is silly from Klopp giving the interview he did. Sounded very bitter and delusional. He was obviously livid you couldn't hold on for the win but he needs to stop acting like such a child when things don't go his way. He also made himself look ridiculous having a wobbler with JM over the Herrera/Firmino incident and then not wanting to shake his hand at the final whistle.

Liverpool had a good game plan today and worked really hard. United have improved since the game at Anfield though and are continuing to develop under Mourinho. If you draw a game late on it's always nicer to have the final say.

Good post - much of it I agree with, especially re: Rashford. Another poster spoke about how whilst zlatan gets you goals he doesn't contribute enough to the team. It's a good point - I would fear a mhiki, rashford, martial front 3 at least as much as a mhiki, zlatan, martial combo, if not more. Mainly because of the pace but also because of the higher work rate.

If you get griezmann in the summer you will potentially have a brilliant attack but where would zlatan or rashford then fit in to your best 11?

It's all about getting players who fit the system - that's why klopp has improved us so much this season. 3 key signings have slotted in perfectly (mane, matip and gini). If we can make a few more this summer, and hang onto coutinho, we will step up another level again.

I agree with the Zlatan point, he knows where the net is but he doesn't have pace to run in behind, he can't dribble past players like he once could, he drops deep to pick up the ball and offloads it but it slows down our attack and Rashford works a lot better on the counter for sure.

I personally don't want griezmann since I'm scared of the whole Pogba 3 man midfield situation, only issue I see is that if a talent like griezmann becomes available and is interested in your club you don't sit and play with yourself you buy the dam guy haha. I think for atleast this season and next Rashford will play an impact sub role like he recently has been bar today. Which is fine he's only 20.

I agree, the way Liverpool play is scary, they press the living daylights out of anyone and everyone, thicken the squad, hold on to key players like Coutinho, give the youngsters like Origi and Can more time and you're good to go.

Pleased the state of the top clubs right now, refreshing to see Spurs up there and glad to see City crumble. Exciting future for our individual clubs and the Premier League I genuinely see a world where there is an all English UCL final again. Here's to showing Madrid and Barcelona what's up in the near future.

Klopp is highly emotional at times and can be a bit ott in post match interviews if caught at the wrong moment. He even said himself "talk to me tomorrow and I will appreciate it's a good point".

Whether amyome think it's an act or believe it's his true personality is def influenced by who you support. I like the fact he was/is so passionate - he lifts the players as a result. We went into today's game as underdogs but put in a decent shift and he comes out at the end bemoaning dropped points - that transmits to the players and builds a mentality we have lacked for many years.

Re: Herrera, that was a clear attempt to get firmino sent off. He pushed him in the chest and he went down clutching his face like mike Tyson had floored him. I hate that shit - every team has players who do it. Thought the ref had a decent game overall apart from Rooney incident - that was at least a yellow card. When Milner stays down you know it's a bad one.

Agreed but it was nothing to do with JM so not sure why Klopp starting having a pop on the touchline?

He should just try and take a minute at times as it's one thing being passionate but another coming across bitter and delusional when you don't get your own way. He was quite disrespectful to Sunderland and Plymouth recently. Not good to see.

So what you're saying is it doesn't count right ? Because if you hadn't have switched around your game plan then you'd have lost.

The hoofball was the correct tactic. I said in the match thread about 20 min in even before the pen that Fellaini would be great as we can bypass your high press entirely and just knock it down for scrapping in the box.

The thing was Mourinho didn't anticipate it, which imo he should have. Klopp had the better of him that first half.

I like what I've seen of your posting. Far more considered, logical and with less bias than many. I don't agree with everything but then no two people ever would.

Complaining about long balls when he signed Caulker, STEPHEN CAULKER, last January only to use him to play the long ball himself in the final 10-15 mins of games.

That's a great point.

When we beat them at their place last year didn't they spend the last 10 minutes lumping the ball up to him?

I think it was them playing a diamond formation that caught him out. Sticking Lallana on Carrick was a good move, it meant that there was no easy pass out of defence and with only 3 up front there weren't many opportunities for long balls. Once we switched to a 4-2-3-1 we had more options up front and probably had the better of a tight game.

He either had too much faith in the players to handle Pool's high press or were arrogant enough to think they would look to counter instead of actively getting into our faces. Pressing Carrick is an obvious move that any decent manager would employ if they hope to disrupt our passing game. Plenty of people voiced the same concern before the match and rightly expected a scrappy game played at pace.

LvG's great record against Pool was largely because his system is their antidote. Methodical, measured passing to tire them out and an outlet up front to bypass their high press once needed. We couldn't do the same thing yesterday because if Zlatan drops to receive the long balls then we have no threat upfront.

There's a difference between a general press and man-marking a midfielder. If they play a 4-3-3 like they usually do, then even if they press Carrick its by moving one of their attacking players out of position, which gives our defence an easy out ball in the space vacated. The diamond was a good idea, but ultimately he countered it, so no big deal. Besides, as uncomfortable as it may have made the first half, they still needed a brain freeze by Pogba to get the goal. They neutralised us but they weren't bossing the game.

LVGs performances against Liverpool were both good in his first season. But in the second season they were in rubbish form when they came to Old Trafford so we cant read too much into that, and in the reverse fixture we were unbelievably flukey to win 1-0 at Anfield having played terribly. Plus they were comfortably better than us in the Europa League. I don't think LVG can be said to have some winning formula.

Liverpool's incredibly intense pressing, which we were not able to play around as we're not good enough to do so yet, completely removed the possibility of a game of decent football to break out.

As such, both teams often, and increasingly as the game went on, had to by pass midfield. This was more prevalent for us later in the second half as we sought an equaliser and Liverpool played for the counter attack, generally by playing a long ball.

Klopp's tactics were very effective, but they meant that the game, whilst exciting, was hardly a game for purists.

Liverpool sure looked a whole lot like a side trying to waste time at every opportunity before our goal, with their keeper taking ages with kicks, throw-ins being taken slowly and players rolling around feigning injury at every chance.

Only when we equalized did they bother to try again. Meanwhile we clearly tried directly for the second goal even after our first.

Nope. It's largely because they were shit. Hence many teams were beating them during those seasons, adopting many different tactics.

Players feigning injury? Herrera is up for an oscar after his performance and Rooney's challenge on Milner was horrible.

Yes we slowed the game down at times but what did you expect us to do when we were winning and trying to stop your momentum.

The thing that amuses me is that you make it sound natural when you do it, and when we did it at your place, it's negative and pathetic.

The basic fact is, every team needs to do it sometimes, you were quite right to try yesterday, and we were right at your place or you'd have killed us!

Also, everyone needs more than one way of playing, the 'long ball' thing is a way around teams like yourselves, who's pressing game makes other options difficult. Who cares how you get a result, change tactics based on who you're playing!

In an ideal world everyone would play like Barcelona, but look at what's happening to city because of that, they don't appear to have another plan when it goes wrong.
