I thought he was great tonight. My motm. Loads of running, really good in possession, drove the team forward. He bossed it. Shame he missed his chance

He's had some brilliant games and some bad ones. He's struggled in the big games which has led some to think he's been poor all season which isn't true. He's mostly been good.

His finishing is fecking awful though. No composure whatsoever.

Best player on the pitch for me

Missed another opportunity but controlled midfield
Every midfielder you watched yesterday and Tuesday would have made mince meat of Anderlecht, a pathetic performance for a player of his supposed calibre.

Along with Carrick he was easily the best player on the pitch but as is the case with Pogba, one crucial miss and the narrative of the whole game changes.

Our attackers were incredibly wasteful all game but Pogba will get the blame. Like the man said himself, some aren't happy unless he's a KDB, Kante and Alli hybrid.
No, people just want him to genuinely boss a game or win a game for us as that's why we bought him. To date he has never done it. There's no point just having a slightly good game against poor opposition once in a while.

He had a pretty good game tonight yes but still lacks that real quality and still never shows anything against good teams.

So you expect him to take on Anderlecht by himself, maybe score a bunch of goals?

Been ok. Good in parts. Was pretty good till December. Lost it a bit in recent past and big games. Seems to be a lot more restricted, presumably under instructions which is a shame. Poor with finishing, but that's not his primary job. Lacks support and needs to improve in certain areas. Have plenty of time for him though.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...

Cmon, to call Pogba's performance tonight 'pathetic' is just daft - and I'm someone who gets regularly told I've got an 'agenda' against Pogba ('agenda' being interchangeable with 'opinion', I think).

But yeah, cmon, that was not a 'pathetic' performance, it was good!

Maybe not as good as some will make out, but definitely in the 'good' category - not average, and certainly not a bad game!

He was very good tonight, orchestrated a lot of our best moves, shame he couldn't cap it off with a goal.

I missed chunks of the game, but from what I did seen, I wasn't that impressed. He did okay, but controlling the midfield in terms of possession is no big feat again today's opposition. Didn't see us creating many chances either.
Controlling possession for this team at the moment means passing the ball from side to side in our own half. A player like Pogba should be talking out 3 or 4 players with an intelligent pass, instead he holds on to it and invites needless pressure

He's a good player but some of the things he does make you think what the feck are you doing? His finishing is also piss poor. I suppose we had that with Ronaldo although not at the age of 24 and certainly not with such a price-tag of expectation.

I think that genuinely what people want from him. They expect him to boss the midfield as a dm, box to box and an attacking midfielder all at the same time while occasionally being our second striker. Its either he has to be absolutely perfect or hes overrated and a waste of money.

It wasnt even that easy to score that chance... he still played really well.

Also he shouldnt be judged on his goals. Did you see the role he plays in? He was gathering the ball from Rojo and Baily at certain times. He has to dictate play and do those Scholes like passes across the field.

He basically needs to run the whole midfield by himself since Carrick cant run and the other midfielders besides Herrera are quite shit. People expect him to assist the non scoring strikers, clear balls of the goalline and also score loads of goals.

If I were jose Id get a couple of finishing coaches and a coach to run the attack because finishing and attacking in general seem to be a problem for our team.

It wasn't good, it was an Anderlecht team that offered very little and a player of Pogba profile should be tearing them apart. I have no doubt he has it in him but he needs to deliver immediately because doing something that Burnley's midfield could do is not acceptable. He thinks he is the shit but has not justified it yet.

he wasn't brilliant by any stretch, played ok that's about it.

Needs to stop this annoying habit of shaking his head and throwing his arms about when things are not working, get on with it man.

If we're talking about this game, he definitely did boss it. He performed his job of a midfielder in a two perfectly IMO. He couldn't do much more except do the job of the attackers who were very wasteful and sloppy.

As for the season, fair enough he hasn't been on the level expected but its nothing to do with quality but all about maturity and mentality. The man has all the ability but his problem is decision making and concentration which makes him frustrating but Jose is the best coach for him in correcting these flaws. In big games if you lack these qualities you'll be punished like Pogba has this season. In saying that I have no doubt in my mind he will be the best player in the PL within a few seasons.

Wasnt confident when I saw Zlatan passed it to him, and wasnt surprised he missed.
After that miss, you could see it got to him. When he "tries too hard" to do something, its not natural and it fecks him up.
Before that, he was bossing the game in CM with Carrick.

I bet you spell you're name in emojis as well. I have issues with our record signing not taking care of business against fecking Anderlecht, especially after the quality we witnessed in the Champions League over the last few days. I am positive it will happen with Pogba but constructive criticism is a good thing for a player of his age. fecking around with flicks and frankly cowardly passing from the team should not be applauded. This is our only realistic chance to begin next season on an equal footing and tonight's performance gave me no confidence that we could get to a final and win this competition.

As some find it difficult that posters criticise Pogba, I find it equally difficult that some posters praise him no matter what.

I am right in between. Tonight he plays a good match, pretty solid.

Then comes his pretty big chance, where he can just bury the match and essentially the quarter-final in its entirety, by firing us up 0–2. He doesn't.

Moments later, with the clock running down, our chance of taking the lead once again is dwindling, there's a sense that this is pretty much the last attack we'll have in this leg… instead of going for the smart option, he goes for the advanced, leading to nothing apart from a two-foot challenge by Fosu-Mensah.

So far, in our most crucial moments of the season, he's not delivered, even if he's had overall good performances in whatever match it has been.

It's not one-offs, it has been going on all season long.

Surely you can't deny this. Some times because of bad luck, other times, like tonight, because of poor execution.

I rate and judge Pogba on how he affects the outcomes of our matches, determining them. He failed in this first leg.

Missed tonight, missed the volley at Sunderland last weekend, missed a one on one vs Bournemouth...these misses are adding up.

Midfielders must score goals. Its not good enough to say midfielders are in the team to create. Box-to-box midfielders, which is what Pogba is, must both score and assist. He has had the chances this season to be in double figures. Its really not good enough for his excuse makers to say he passed well so we can forgive his misses.

Frustrating as feck. For every 3 brilliant passes he plays he also plays one shocker.

Do you see the merit of arguing that he occupied the Anderlecht midfield, which allowed Carrick and Mkhitaryan the space generally? Carrick was able to pick out an advanced player time and again.

I honestly wish Pogba had more discipline, he could be a world class #6 and an excellent replacement for Carrick, but he clearly wants to do everything himself.

How many chances has he missed?
A lot. I posted a mere selection. The one against Liverpool early on sticks out too. Especially as he then went and gave away a needless penalty against them.

Nobody could expect him to score 15-20 goals this season. With the chances he's missed though, you can make a legit argument he might've.

Important words there. Pogba isn't like Lampard or Gerrard at his best, he doesn't that natural finishing ability that some midfielders have. He is actually shocking in front of goal.

Yup. He played well.
What did he do exactly to deserve this praise? And more to the point what did he do that Carrick and/or Ander could not? Because when people telling about spraying passes and so on, that is a job that could easily been done by Ander or Carrick. Pogba was bought for his creative qualities, yet he created only one chance (a pass that led to a shot) today. Though he had numerous chances to score himself or to create a scoring opportunity for a partner. All squandered.
And as a game-controlling Kroos type of player Pogba hardly cuts it. He looses the ball far too much for that role, and he lost it enough times today as well.
