Well that's disappointing. I hope we sign a very good wide player to compensate.

James is better at scoring goals for sure. I don't think he's better at much else, but then again it is goals we are missing.
He's an excellent passer and his first season for Real better than anything Silva has produced. Silva gets overrated because he's more pleasing on the eye. In terms of effectiveness give me James any day.

City played a number of games towards the end of the season with one defensive midfielder, four attacking midfielders/wingers and a striker. E.g. against Palace for instance it was Toure sitting and then Sterling, Silva, De Bruyne, Sane with Jesus upfront.

Van Gaal used the same system at the end of his first season which was the best we played under him. Silva would excel in such a system imo.
Against small teams that good I think, switch it up in the bigger matches. Still an excellent player would miss out I think.

it's always very gratifying seeing a player you've followed since he hadn't even played a senior match make it into one of the best teams in the world
What about when he goes to City though?

Maybe if we want to promote youth for example Harrop then we won't need to get another winger if Jose really sees something in him.

Bunch of complete fannies in here. You'd think they had signed Messi judging by the state of this thread. James is actually a better so we'd cone off better.
I think it's more so the fact that everyone was looking forward to get him and hyping him up. A snowball effect.

Who cares, if he doesn't want to play for us then feck him. That or Mourinho has other plans, get over it.

Pretty much. All based on youtube clips and gifs no doubt.

I'd rather get an actual winger in than either James or Silva but out of the two I'd take James.

It will be very disappointing if he moves to City. People are acting like City won't buy defensive players this summer. They are stocking up on players that we have little of. We need to act fast!

Any chance Jose was trolling us? He wasn't linked with City until after those comments.

Of course we couldn't sign him. How would we have enough money left over to give Real Madrid for their reject for this year James?

Seriously he's an awesome little player, I really hope we don't lose out to him, to then land James. He'll fit in perfectly into a fluid attack at City.

Difference is that Silva can actually play out on the right. James is a fantastic number 10 but isn't particularly effective out wide. I'd much prefer Griezmann or even Pogba occupying that space through the middle with us signing a top quality left or right winger.

Hope he costs them an arm and a leg. He isn't suited to Mourinho's style of play anyway. Prefer James Rodriguez.

Is anyone actually reporting this apart from the MEN (who state they are unsure), and some 'ITK' City fan?

Yes, that would soften the blow. But isn't Fabinho also linked to City?
I think they'll land Fabinho too, to kill two birds with one stone, first choice central mid and can also cover at right back. Fair play to City, their transfers so far look to be on point (if speculation is to be believed).

Great news. Who else can't wait for us to sell De Gea, and get a highly-motivated James Rodriguez, one of Europe's best goal-scorers in Morata, Eric Deir and Burnley star Michael Keane?

Fabinho, Walker and Alex Sandro, at a guess.

He'll be a huge hit at City.. perfect replacement for David Silva. Not fussed about missing out on him as I don't think Mourinho would have been the right manager for him and I would much prefer a proper pace merchant on the flanks rather than another 10 operating out wide.

No doubt many will be moaning over the season about what a talent we missed out on but the truth of the matter is, some players are just not right for the way United play and we have to be very careful as to which talents suit playing for United and which don't. You can't sign them all.

Someone like Sane for example, that pisses me off.. as he'd be a perfect United player but Silva, not sure he'd be a hit here.. he'll grow into a great player under Pep, whereas under Jose he would be a misfit.

Good signging. Glad to have him in the premier league. In all honesty would prefer us to get a Douglas Costa type player.

Yeah he would suit City more
