2017 Confederations Cup

Haven't been following the system they've put in place that closely but I have absolutely no idea why the ref has to go to the sideline to watch the video when they could just have someone else relay a decision to him instead.
They have done in the past. This time though the ref wanted to view the video himself. Guess he wanted to be 100% sure.
First time I've seen video assisted refereeing in action. That took a little too much time for my liking.
It only took that long because he went to view the video himself. Usually there's someone who relays what happened.

You have got what you wished for Welcome to fecking instant replay. Doesn't work even when you clearly see infractions.
It will ruin the sport like it did to every American sport. A few years from now people will rue the day this technology was introduced to football. That 2 min sequence of a yellow being branded shows why it won't work

it works, the refs don't. It's simple, really.

That's possible imo, Ancelotti likes a DLP in his lineup and even if Thiago or a new player gets that role, he might be the first backup.
That is why I mentioned Rudy for next year in Russia, makes sense to play him since Xabi left imo.

What subjectivity? It's a clear red card. VAR helps refs see more clearly. It doesn't give them a brain.

The very fact the referee decided it was yellow is the evidence it was subjective.

Just because you, me, and 99% of others saw a blatant red, another person had the opinion it wasn't red. That's a clear definition of subjectivity.

No penalty at all

That's like saying that the fact people believe the earth is flat is prove that the earth's shape is not objectively spherical.

Hmm. Surely it would be better not to give the ref the option of viewing the video himself in that case?

Aaaaaand they snapped. Was to be expected, it's just what they do. I expect 2 reds before this is over.

What a miserable bunch they are and Vidal is unfortunately the worst offender. He cost us the tie against Real as well...

Mazic is struggling with VAR it seems. He's all over the place.

Refs are subjective. VAR isn't. VAR showed it was a clear red card according to the rules. The ref still acted against them.

I didn´t even care to win this, until Chiledren started to behave like that. They work the ref like this is the World Cup final. Therefore I want them to lose.

So what you're saying is the VAR system doesn't work.

It works. VAR was never meant to replace actual refs. Just to help them see what they miss live. Some refs though will still fail to apply the letter of the law even when they see clearly what happened.

Yeah, pointless. Why can't the video refs reach him on his headset?

Why can't the ref wear some mobilephone or something and get the replay streamed? This way the ref would save the time running to the half way line

That's like saying that the fact people believe the earth is flat is prove that the earth's shape is not objectively spherical.

But that's getting into scientifical evidence that can factually prove the shape of the earth, so a contrasting opinion can be disproven with actual facts. Just like if some nutter said elephants can fly that doesn't make it subjective.

However the decision of an elbow in a football game being dangerous or intentional still comes down to opinion, regardless of how clear it may seem to you or I.
