Surely one of the weirdest career trajectories ever?

Brazil > Lithuania > Poland> Brazil > England > China > Spain

He's not a bad player. His first season at Spurs was decent. He's now a key player for Brazil.

But that fee is a bit ridiculous. He will bring legs and energy to their midfield like Vidal does for his. They need more control though, so it will be interesting to see how it works out.

Is there something dodgy going on behind the scenes with this transfer?

What a baffling transfer. Do they really think Paulinho will help bridge the gap to Real Madrid?

He was complete shite at Tottenham.

What are Barcelona doing?

Strange.

Is there anyone here that can attest to the level of the Chinese league and how he's done there? I'm thinking of Defoe going to the MLS and returning to the PL to score a bucket of goals. Wasn't all that bad.

I mean, I don't know how he's played since leaving Spurs, but if Stoke had signed him I wouldn't have been surprised in the slightest. Barcelona seem intent on winning a race to mediocrity.

Money laundering? Why on earth would you sign a 29-year old CM who fecked off to China a while ago? You are Barca, players are deliberately missing training and putting in transfer requests to play for you. And what do you do? You sign fecking Paulinho.

Their midfield is old and need some young players, they went and signed one more older player.

29 is not too old but their midfield average age is around 30, they should be bringing it down by investing on younger players.

He does nothing for them. He's paid to be on holyday 365 days a year basically

Part of the problem maybe, as he's actually a very good evaluator of talent/ability
fecking hell! fecking Wikipedia writes he is their sporting director :D

He was fantastic under Tite in Corinthians and he's been fantastic under Tite for Brazil. He's been the best player in the chinese league and there's a reason he's a key player for Brazil.

He didn't adapt and flopped at Tottenham but he's actually a good player. With that said, he's been in China for a while, he's not really a Barcelona type midfielder, he's costing 40 million euros and he's 29 years old. It's a ridiculous transfer

Let's say Valverde is not gonna play the typical Barca style, imo.

An article on why Barca fans think there is some shady stuff going on:

https://www.barcablaugranes.com/201...rsonal-gains-paulinho-transfer-news-guangzhou

Josep Maria Bartomeu Floreta is a partner and CEO at ADELTE Group which is into designing, manufacturing, supplying and maintaining airports, seaports and road transport operations.

Apparently, ADELTE Group is expanding into China and bidding on projects like the Ocean Flower Island being built by the Evergrande group which also happens to be the parent organisation of—you guessed it—Guangzhou.

There are rumours that Florentino Perez’s ACS Group was also bidding for the project, but with the Paulinho transfer concluded, could be handed over to ADELTE Group and/or associates.
EDIT:
Just saw this link was posted earlier in this thread.

If anybody wonders why they signed him, they ought to read this.
If true, and it could very well seem so, football is finally showing it's very capitalistic face in public.
Wouldn't take that as gospel but it's interesting.

Even if he actually turns out good, that's one of the oddest transfers I've ever seen considering his age, current club, club that signed him and fee.
