Off topic, but in countries where weed is legal, is it legal to smoke and drive? I actually think it's even safer than driving sober cause I feel like I'm going at 100 when I'm actually going at 20.

On topic, drinking and driving alone is a bad thing. But for a professional footballer to do that is disgusting.

does it matter how over the limit he was and it does not matter what the limit is in other countries, he is a dick , should not have been driving after drinking , be it one pint or 10.
No it doesn't matter. He's just joined a new club and he's out drinking in the early hours of the morning. If he wants to do it in the off-season, that's fine, but during the season? Have a word.

Why even leave it open to chance... you shouldn't be allowed to drink and drive full stop, not a single drop.
It would make it a lot simpler. I watched one of those police interceptor shows the other day and they pulled some nobhead over who was shouting and swearing, delaying things as much as possible. Then denied to do the by the road test, kicks up a bit more. By the time he gets back to the station and tested he blew 33 or something. Limit is 35.

He was clearly over the limit when they stopped him but time had passed and he got away with it.

 Would still count as driving under the influence regardless of the legality of the drug.

7.9 is below 8 and is deemed sensible but 8 is hazardous? Right. I think the questionnaire is deeply flawed, personally, but anyway.

I never argued otherwise. My point was that binge drinking doesn't equate to alcohol dependency. A point that you have already conceded.
Like everything else, there has to be a cut-off, right? It's not plucked out of thin air, and you could make that point with everything, ie "so if he would've had a blood alcohol level of 0.49 he wouldn't have been arrested but at 0.50 he is? That's deeply flawed!"

Fair enough, but like I said, dependency is not the only harmful aspect of drinking, and the entire discussion about binge drinking started with the quote below (emphasis mine)

Heavy drinking doesn't mean you need help. There's plenty of people for instance that don't touch drink during the week and then heavy drink over weekends.
...and you've said that someone with 8 points on the questionnaire shouldn't have anything to worry about, which is wrong according to the guidelines.

Yeah, it wasn't his car which could present even more problems if not insured.
Drunk driving in an uninsured car which you don't own is serious stuff.

I do find it terribly sad that grown men try and excuse such behaviour in another grown man just because they idolised him as a child (probably).

Glad the disgraceful chav isn't with us anymore but a part of me is sad that he'll probably end up on a downward slope quickly.

Does the FA take any action under such circumstances or is it just ignored as it is non-football related?

Well, unless they take your blood sample, it's very hard to know if a person is stoned or not. :wenger:

I think it's becoming evident he's got a drink problem. We all said this before after seeing the state of him when he played for us. Please let's hear more from Ray Wilkins and Gary Lineker about what an incredible pro he is. A guy who was on £300k a week from us who couldn't look after himself. A multimillionaire footballer who has access to the finest training facilities, trainers and dietitians in the world yet someone who was finished at the top level before he was 30. But please Gary, continue to lecture us pleb fans for not kissing Wayne Rooney's feet.

In the US there are two different denominations, where DUI is alcohol related and DWI (driving while impaired/intoxicated) is for drugs/sedatives/etc

So apparently he was signing songs whilst dancing on a table hours before he drove home. Hilarious considering some of the posts defending him say he might have barely been over the limit after a glass or 2 of wine at dinner and it's not fair.

He's a joke of a man.

Doesn't matter if he's only doing it now and again. It seems that he when he does drink, he gets embarrassingly hammered. I know that's sort of dismissed as a problem in Britain but it's definitely a sign of someone who's got a problem with alcohol. I'm not really throwing stones here, I have a minor issue with it myself and I have to curb myself when I go out to drink on the odd occasion because I can't handle it.

What I find with folks who drink heavy at the weekend is that if you dare suggest they don't drink one weekend they get incredibly defensive about it. I've seen it first hand with family members. You don't have to be drinking every day and night to have a bad relationship with alcohol.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
Possibly a downwards spiral from this I think. He'll be banned from driving and in doing so will have to resort to getting taxis/escorts everywhere. This will probably allow him to get pissed even more as he no longer is in control of a vehicle.

We shall see. We all know Wayne likes a drink
Escorts?

Coleen would go mental.... first grannies, now escorts?

Might be pros and cons to his moving back to Liverpool. As in, he might go back to his old vices. When he was there before, it was partly excused as he was teenager who got famous overnight.

I've tried defending him in the past but this is beyond stupid. I never understand why a professional athelete can't wait until they are retired in their mid 30s then drink and party as much as they want. It's hardly long to wait in the grand scheme of things. If you had the talent to earn a absolute fortune from playing a game and never having to do a proper days work in your life surely you would make the most of it while you could.

I actually dont agree with this, we all deserve down time, no matter who you are or what you do.
There is no games till next weekend, so I dont see a problem with him drinking, no manager would expect that for the whole season.

Its the drink driving that is the problem !!

Think of the accident he could have there. Drunk on a table dancing. On £300k a week.

Professional.

I have no idea where that cut off point is plucked from. I'm fairly sure you don't either. I will say grouping someone who scores an 8 in with someone who scores 19 isn't particularly sensible.

...and you've said that someone with 8 points on the questionnaire shouldn't have anything to worry about, which is wrong according to the guidelines.
According to those particular guidelines, yes. Guidelines which are derived from a questionnaire which is inherently flawed, in my opinion.

Anyway, let's agree to disagree. I'm sure our riveting discussion may well be boring people at this point.

Bubble Room is awful, it's a right pretentious twat haunt.

There's a well nice Syrian restaurant a few doors down though
Yara? It is quite nice there, Bubble Room is shite though. Full of people who would be desperate for attention off someone like Rooney (or any other celeb for that matter.) The Chinese further down again Yu is quite nice as well if you've not been.

Anyway, drink driving is stupid even if it's the next day or he's just over or whatever which is highly unlikely it's still stupid no excuse for it especially not when could easily afford a taxi.

The problem with drink driving is that people put shitfaced drivers, people who had half a pint to much and hangovered people into the same category. While the first case is pure idiocy the other two don't deserve the same contempt.

In Poland limit is 0,2‰. According to police stats as many as 80% of drink driving Poles would have been deemed sober under German limit (0,5‰) and God knows how many more under Luxmeburg's limit of 0,8‰.

So before I cast a stone at Wayne I'd like to know how drunk he was in the first place.
I completely agree with this, but with the amount of money he has and cannot just get a friggin cab on the chance you may want another pint! That attitude is insane and a smacks a little bit of "don't you know who I am" type attitude as if he's above the law. There is no excuse when you are famous and at the basic level have a responsibility to a young family as well, in terms of setting an example!

Yes indeed, Yara, Lebanese and Syrian if I remember correctly and absolutely wonderful food.

They had a nice beer too but I can't remember the name of it. I wasn't driving :smirk:
