We could have made greater progress on the matter if not for the EU's greed, of both money and continued influence. FWIW, i'd like to see a unilateral declaration of some sort prior to Christmas, albeit in line with our position on the ECJ.
Or to put it another way 'we could have made great progress if the EU hadn't insisted on exactly the same rules as we knew they would before we voted out'.

A fitting generalisation on your part, i suppose.
If your master plan is to sell out to the Americans, with the inevitable lowering of product standards and private healthcare intrusions into the NHS that is likely to bring, then the U.K. really is fecked.

Not to mention the fact that we're currently arguing over the imposition of 300% tariffs...

But it's nice to see Nick post in this thread again I was beginning to think he'd run away with his tail between his legs.

I wasn't allowed to....

Another cock-up by Cameron as I'm sure that most ex-pats would have voted to REMAIN for obvious reasons....
I wouldn't be that sure. In Malta there were plenty of British immigrants who rooted for Brexit because they want their country back and would like to kick the undesirables out. When asked if they would like to be deported they replied that the Maltese government would never do that to them as that would be extremely cruel and we're all commonwealth (whatever that means).

I am slowly getting a little fed up of both the EU and British Politicians as are probably many who still dont know where they stand, as a Brit living in Germany I will at some point need to know what I have to do to continue living and working here, for me personally I do not want to take out German Nationality unless I really need to so it is slowly becoming the time when they start putting something on the table for expats and EU citizens in the UK.

Surely you can just file for permanent citizenship, if it's like in France you don't need the UK or the EU?

Surely it makes sense to get dual nationality if you can? I've always had a UK passport, despite living in Ireland since I was 2. It's never been a problem for me but I just got my first Irish passport in case travelling within the EU becomes a hassle, post--Brexit. That's just common sense really.

I could but dont want to plus I cant be bothered paying 255€ to it. There are pluses and minuses for doing this but depending how this all pans out either way I will probably end up jumping through hoops.
I'm sorry but if you don't want to be a citizen(by that I'm talking about residency only) and also don't want to be a national then what do you want to be?

If I knew whether or not after Brexit I could keep both I would consider it, at the moment you can due to the EU but once the UK is out what then, I would be peeved to have to choose one or the other.

A residency permit I have and have had since 1996 but this is related to the EU and in fact due to the EU you dont even need one anymore here, but what is when Brexit is finalized would I need a Visa or some other papers etc. thats the most annoying thing not knowing what is going to happen.

I'd be amazed if Brexit affects your rights re dual citizenship. As it stands you can hold a British passport and a passport from a whole load of non-Eu countries.

But £10bn is not going to really trouble the EU is it - being cast off into the wilderness might have some downside for the UK
Probably not, but its going to be a hole of around £30B (2018 to 2020) in total, only Germany and the UK pay in surpluses, so looks like Angela will have to find the £30B herself... probably 'chump-change' anyway to Germany!

Britain will seek to fill the holes left, from trading around the world, where will the EU look to fill the 65m market from, as well as the £10B per annum?

Also see President Macrons 'honeymoon period' is almost over, will he make it do you think?

This is exactly why no-one trusts the UK -
True, but they will still take our money... albeit probably holding their noses and crossing their fingers!

Hah hah! no, you know it!

Always on my shoulder, keeping me honest, well done MS!

In 2007 (Presumably latest figures available that have had some sort of audit) in NET surplus terms 6 countries paid <1 Billion euros each; 3 countries each paid >1<3 billion euros and two countries paid>3 Billion euros, these were UK and Germany

The figures are courtesy of BBC NEWS CHANNEL EU Budget, who note that according to the EU commission there are >30 ways to calculate net figures for budget contributions!

No wonder the EU cannot come up with a definitive Bill to present to Britain... looks like we are all going over that cliff edge together!

2007 from the BBC News Channel EU Budget

You're a parody of yourself at this stage.

I assume if you trust the BBC News Channel EU whatever, you'll also trust a report from the House of Commons, or maybe you won't because it doesn't go along with your bullshit claim?

Come on Spanner, I've just taken figures from the BBC NEWS Channel, so why the hostility, it backs what you said, there are other countries paying net surpluses, be gracious enough to acknowledge that!

To be honest, I do tend to distrust most reports from the House of Commons after all those who reside there have been lying to us for years about the Common Market, the European Economic Community and now the European Union

Do you trust anything that doesn't support your argument, or do we all follow Donald Trump's belief in 'fake news'?

I will happily be proven wrong by facts. You've now twice stated that Germany and the UK are the only net contributors to the E.U. despite being given facts the first time to prove you incorrect. I would say you're basically the definition of someone who uses 'fake news'.

I'm in the process of getting French nationality so when it comes through I'll have both French and British nationality. Because France and Britain both allow dual nationality I don't have to choose.

Holland have just said that they will now allow their citizens to have dual citizenship because of the uncertainty of Brexit which was prohibited previously .
At this moment I believe both the UK and Germany allow people to be dual nationals so you could do it and not have to choose.

It's not an EU law, it is a Uk law and a German law, only if the countries themselves change their laws would you then have to choose.
If you are worried then I recommend you pay the €255 and put your future in your own hands.

Really! Some how I don't believe the 'happily' part.. perhaps a slip-up on the words used, you would accept being proved wrong, perhaps?

You've now twice stated that Germany and the UK are the only net contributors to the E.U. despite being given facts the first time to prove you incorrect
?

Yes guilty as charged, I meant to say the largest net contributors, but strictly speaking you are correct I have said that, but it was a slight slip-up on words?

Don't think any actual facts were given, just assertions!, but they did prove correct, so I accept that!

I would say you're basically the definition of someone who uses 'fake news'
,

Using 'fake news'?
No more than the next a man/women, I will plead guilty to at times not checking something out properly, tending to rely on memory (which I do accept at my age can be fraught with difficulty) or as in the case above not being precise, even perhaps over egging a point! (Paul the Wolf watches me constantly so he will let me know when I'm going too far! Eh Paul ;)

To deliberately mislead or use information I know to be false deliberately, No, I don't do that... honestly!

I'm not involving myself in your argument with Massive Spanner but he's right;)

£30bn over 3 years is chump change to any major country, Germany, France, UK etc but Brexiters make such a big deal of it but dismiss the notion of losing far far more by leaving the EU.

The other notion which bewilders me is this we'll trade around the world. The UK already trades around the world as do all the other countries in the the EU.
The biggest individual trading partner of the Uk is already the USA - this is another intriguing point for me - what can the UK produce that the USA are so desperate to have that will make up for the 50% of the UK's exports that they are putting at risk with the EU. It really makes no sense.

As for Macron, he's still quite new, would like to see where he is after a year, I hope he succeeds, whether he will or not I don't know.

 Twice, you slipped up twice, did you? You accidentally confused "only contributors" with "largest contributors", did you? I mean, look, it's an easy mistake to make. Only and largest, it's not like they mean vastly different things or anything. Or, it's not like someone already called you out on it the first time and you ran away with your tails between your legs.

I can't figure out if you're the only bullshitter in here or the largest bullshitter, maybe you can help me on that?

Which rule covers the EU's interpretation of the divorce bill?

Simple question, does Canada have the same health system as the US?

That the world's nations are likely to coalesce into a number of larger blocs isn't something that i would dispute at this point; where the UK's home should be, well that's the question. I am uncomfortable with where the EU is heading though, and this was our opportunity to pull back while we still could. NAFTA membership or some future Atlantic Federation might well be a better fit for us over time. And If a post-Brexit government aspires to a mutual lowering of barriers to movement (albeit short of FoM), good for all.

The EU of 2017 is quite different to the one which even i grew up with, so it wouldn't take much for something else to become the new normal.

No you didn't, just twice on this page alone you have used the word "only".
I can find the use the word once, in any case where have you been lately, waiting to pounce?
I'll stand the kicking off the organ-grinder (Massive Spanner) but not from the monkey, go and cry your eyes out somewhere else.
