Would have loved Klopp (or anyone) after Moyes, and still think he would have done really well here. I loved the guy.

Now, I don't know if it's the Liverpool thing or not, but I really can't stand him anymore.

No, not Lisbon..Lisburn!
The Mailonline, sheesh.....but look at the comments. Now I know the comments column usually attracts the shallow end of the gene pool like moths to napalm but the hate there is palpable, it's like RAWK have come out in force!

He never seems to buy the right quality, he's clearly a fully paid up member of the 'value' club. Think his love for improving players via training is what will ultimately cost him his job.
Que ?! Mane, Salah, and arguably both Matip and Wijnaldum are good buys if not star quality.

He's bought 15 players, 6 of whom are youngsters for the future and 2 'golden oldies' for backup.

He's not got the ambition or the personality to manage a club the size of United. Any other manager would've jumped at the chance. Coward, small-time bottler. He thrives being the underdog in a low pressure environment, so people can see what a charismatic overachieving charmer he is. Making clubs like Borussia, Mainz and Liverpool relevant where expectations and pressure aren't as high are more his game. Suits Liverpool down to the ground, and precisely why I can never see him managing a Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the future.

Fact is 99% of United's fans would have been ecstatic with Klopp taking over after Moyes. It would have been interesting to see how he would have done. Defending would have been better than in Liverpool, because he already had a better base in DDG, Smalling, Jones..
But I'm happy with Jose and I rather have him than the obnoxious cnut Klopp :)
They would have been ecstatic if the tea lady had taken over from Moyes. Really not setting the bar high with that comparison.

Wasn't there a report saying he wanted to be manager of us a while ago?

Either way I don't believe the story, no way would he have turned us down if he was offered the job.

In all seriousness though, I know you guys hate Klopp but you have to admit it is refreshing that a coach would turn down an oil club like city to manage a sleeping giant like Liverpool instead
Given how revealing that article claims to be, it doesn't go as far as to say Klopp turned down City for Liverpool.

I hate the Utd fans wanted him at the time argument.
A lot of fans wanted Renato Sanches and for us to stay away from Matic last summer, opinions change.

I do wonder how our football might have been played under Klopp. Think he could have done quite well here. More exciting than LVG at least.
Exciting based on what? I doubt many would find us exciting when we struggle against the smaller teams and beat the big teams, arguably what we did under lvg.

When you support a team, unless that team wins, nobody cares about the performance of that team. I doubt anyone was praising our attacking play last season when we drew the 15 or so games by having 20 shots each game but 1 goal at best to show for it.

I take this with a pinch of salt but it definitely sounds like the type of soundbite Woodward would roll out. I appreciate Ed's work in completing the signings he has over the past couple of years but as a person, he's a cringe-worthy plank of a bloke, so hard to like. I can totally see him saying this and it's pretty embarrassing really.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp used to 'dream' about managing Manchester United, according to a long-standing associate of the German coach.

Eckhard Krautzun managed Klopp at German club Mainz at the turn of the Millenium and the Liverpool coach succeeded him in 2001.

Krautzun has remained in touch with Klopp ever since and he has revealed that the German confided in him that his ultimate ambition would be to manage Manchester United.

The buck stops with mane and Salah, which actually shows he's good with expensive signings. The others range from decent players to pure trash. Nowhere near what is needed at the level where Poor are trying to get to.

You can't blame him either. Its not like he is been backed like pep and still persisting with his love to develop players.
The small buys add up and at the end, end up costing you as much as one quality player would. That's all he should've done.

You have to factor in that he would've had to abandon his team and one of his principles (importance of contracts) to make the move. "Adult Disneyworld" is also a terrible pitch to make to someone like Klopp, imho. I don't really think he would've turned down United (on principle) after he left Dortmund though. Circumstances probably played a big part.

Scoring points with Liverpool fans, nothing to see. It's the only thing he has at the delusional club, a connection with them. He needs to reinforce it as it looks clear they won't be winning anything this season. It also takes attention away from the wonder that is Lovren. It's so cringy and low but he's feeling the pressure, anything to defelct attention away from that backline and keeper.

Buying a 'quality player' as you put it, doesn't guarantee anything as has been proven many times - United having had more than their fair share of those for big money. And not every player you buy can be top notch as most title winning teams prove.

He couldn’t even handle the pressure of simply thinking about Manchester United. So made the right decision for everyone not taking the job.

Doesn’t posses the killer instinct and bad boy confidence to succeed at our level of pressure.

Nothing wrong in what Woodward said either - it’s a perfect description of what OT is like for players or fans when we get it right.

What’s so embarrassing about it? Perfectly fine statement, even when taken totally out of context.

I bet you any money that Klopp would have been more successful faster for you guys than Mourinho (not saying Mourinho isn't a top coach though). If Klopp was at UTD he would have gotten all his top signings like Keita, VVD, Mane, Pogba(?) etc

Edit for below question (3post limit): Lets be honest, VVD was one of the best defenders in the PL for the last 2 years and anyone that has watched naby Keita knows he is in that top bracket with Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele etc and is a very unique player (I think he would have fit very well at utd)
Where's the logic in that? Klopp; a manager who has won pretty much nothing with Liverpool, failed to address their most obvious weakness and a master at losing finals. Mourinho; a manager who has won it all and won 2 cups in his first season at United.

Of course he would. ;)

Jose: proven trophy winner, vs Klopp, who has won about 20% of the trophies which Jose has won.
Jose 2 CL trophies and multiple league titles in different countries, with different clubs. Klopp: 2 league titles?
Jose won 2 trophies in his first season with MUFC. Klopp has won how many trophies in his tenure with LFC?

Jose: obsessed with winning trophies.
Kloop: doesn't feel any pressure to win trophies.

Comparing Klopp to Jose is like comparing a family saloon car against a high end Bugatti Veyron.
There is gulf in class between the 2 managers and they can't be mentioned in the same breath.
I do however, think Klopp would've been better than LVG.

Well, Klopp was a popular man to take over from SAF too. From what I read in this forum, Klopp's freshness and attacking football was needed here more than past it and pragmatic Jose. Hindsight 20/20

With the direction this league is heading in, having mediocre players isn't going to get anyone anywhere and Pool are paying for it right now cause they couldn't sign the right quality of defensive players including a holding mid.

The main thing United fans moan about on this forum is that their team is static and clueless going forward. Klopp would improve that, but at the expense of De Gea being a lot more busy.

Liverpool also look clueless when teams park the bus. You would think Liverpool games end 5-5 every week the way people go on about their attack and defence.

Defo wanted Klopp after Moyes. Didnt want LVG but once he was announced, I was excited to see what he could do. In a way I was conned by Netherlands getting to the semi finals (and of course that madness of subbing the keeper for a penalty shoot out).
Ahh well.

I think opinions don't change that fast.
I think opinions change really fast.
Well played

Pretty much my feelings on Klopp tbh. Went from wanting him to manage us a few years ago to now not actually being able to stand him at all, can't even listen to him speak now.

I couldn't stand him even when he was at Dortmund, he has always been a loony tramp, with his teeth and beard and antics on the touchline, but I did want him because of what he had achieved at Dortmund.

This place had a real hard-on for Klopp around that time, IIRC.
Absolutely, as evidenced by the great song we had for Moyes before it went tits up:

(to the tune of 'My Old Man's a Dustman' and apologies for forgetting some of the words):

Ohhhhhhhhhh,
David Moyes is magic, he wears a tracksuit top,
So all you fecking hipsters, go worship Jurgen Klopp
[something-something-something, something] and RVP,
So let's go fecking mental and sign Hibert on a free.

EDIT: I should say this wasn't widely sung, but it was proposed on here at the time and I had a good giggle singing it with my mates.
