It's all well and fine that we don't have any expectations on strikers to score goals but when they are this shit defensively it becomes ridiculous that he time and again falls down to "help" defend corners. Almost scored an OG at Arsenal and directly responsible for both City goals today. Cant run wih the ball at his feet and can't score from a couple of yards out. A fecking waste of money.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
Before the game I thought that Mourinho might bench Rom for it and surprise us with 2 pacey forwards through the middle like he did last season against Chelsea.

In hindsight, he really, really should've.

I'd love to replay that game with this...

Feel for him. Hung out to dry by the tactics of the twat in charge.

He was used to more attacking positivity at Everton.
There’s some truth to this. He is a 20/30 goal striker but looks a shadow of the killer he was last season. The service is poor and we as a team don’t play to his strengths.

Really? He's had preferential treatment since day one. If Martial had played as bad as he's been playing, I bet he'd be on the verge of leaving the club.

Martial or maybe even Rashford given the same support or setup would definitely have outscored him if they were played as 9 this season, and our attacking play would’ve been even better.

What does he offer that Martial doesn’t?
Martial is a better finisher. Martial is even the better header of the ball and has better hold up play. Martial is better than him at almost everything. Rashford is probably better than him at most things too.

Such a pointless signing... Mourinho attacking signings have been average at best:
Mikhitaryan-Hideous
Lukaku-average(definitely not good enough for us)
Zlatan was the only decent one.
We need to stop throwing money away.

I blame JM on this....seriously...how can a player with sh*t first touch been giving job to defend a corner.... based on arsenal and this game he should never allowed to defend a corner again...

The big problem with him that I never thought is he is mentally so weak. He looks lost, he looks terrified. GROW UP YOUR BALL LAD, YOU HAVE COST US THE TITLE.

He’s a flat track bully who only scores against weaker teams. He’s done it for years. It’s why morata was my first choice in the summer of the available plqyers.

Really we should have tested spurs resolve to a 100 million bid for Kane
Agreed. People were comparing him favorably to Kane when he bought him using stats but I don't think there is any comparison to be had. Kane is streets ahead of Lukaku. I was hopeful that Lukaku would be one of those who would raise him game at a bigger club but is not looking good right now. It is still early days so I won't wrote him off yet but Lukaku is simply too clumsy on the ball to be a top striker.

Can’t control the ball and for the price tag he should be finishing off more of those chance. The game against arsenal he all most scored against us and today twice his shit clearances where at fault for both of city’s goals. With out Pogba to put 4,5 chances on a plate for him this guy is useless at least play Fellaini if your looking for an outlet, he can at least control the ball with his chest and has a good record for scoring in big games.

Just a big lump. And no this isn't racist.

To play for a big-club you need more thenthat to score goals again cannon fodder.. he will hold us back in the same way Ruud did (before we sold him for the dynamic Louis Saha who had the pace, heading ability, finishing and link-up play everything the big lump doesn't), but he is a less superior goal-scorer than Ruud..

He can't hold the ball up and have a good first touch playing as a number 9 which is the basics.

Zlatan deserves his chance.

Dreadful in what measurement? He obviously is a very talented footballer.
Now that I've calmed down a little, I do agree. But I maintain that he's not a title-winning striker. He couldn't control the ball if his life depended on it and he cannot create anything for himself. Can't win any challenges and where the feck is the pace he was suppose to have?

Not only does it hurt as hell handing City the title, but it's also sad thinking knowing that this donkey will be our leading striker for years to come. Unless he somehow manages to up his touch to a League Two level, then we might have a good striker on our hands.

He was never good enough so it shouldn't come as a huge surprise. City had a much better striker sat on the bench watching
Unfortunately the second part of your post is 100% spot on. We are pretty far behind city. We’ve wasted so much money over the last few years. I think we are the second best team in the league this year and we are still rebuilding but based on that it’ll be a while before we catch city again.

Should have dominated that defence. Was imprecise with simple passes and clearances. We suffered for it. Not focal point he should be for his stature.

Starting to look a bit of a misfit tbh. Can't seem to score against the best teams or even hold the ball up. Missed a sitter and gave them the second goal.

Combination of absolutely awful all round and then at the same time being unlucky as well. Could see him dropped for the next game.

Let's hope he has the mentality to bounce back. I know I'm going on saying this, but I think he should be shifted to the right for now, and give a Martial or a Rashford a run as a CF.
He should be shifted to the bench mate. Lukaku on the wing would be way too slow. We need tricky wingers like City have. No more of this “false number 10” bullshit. They have Sane and Sterling, we need to get similar players like Perisic and Griezmann.

united really need to aim higher for the quality of player they bring in, he can score some goals but his overall play is heskey esque , it's not good enough for a team that should be challenging titles and european cups, for such a important position we need a world class player, barca have messi, psg neymar, madrid ronaldo who do we have f*ck*ng heskey 2.0.

I dont think he's a big game player. Missed a great chance against Real, vs Pool, those chances vs Watford :wenger: and today vs City. We needed a clinical finisher and he's not it

He was infuriating to watch today.

The ball bounced off him, he couldn't even win his headers, reluctance to shoot, a liability while defending set pieces, fluffed his lines in front of goal.

Basically, he did nothing right.

Wise up we were never in a title race this season let alone match the way City are going .

He's definitely being hampered by our tactics but pretty much everything he tried today ended in failure if not outright disaster.

I'd give him a break for the next couple of games.

I miss the days where we had strikers who could hold up the ball, were technically good and did everything you’d want a striker to do.

From York and Cole, van Nistelrooy, Rooney, van Persie to this fecking donkey.

I always thought criticism of his first touch and positional awareness were a bit harsh.

No longer.

When the choice is between Lukaku and Morata then really what's the difference?!

Mourinho should've gone for an elite right winger and put his trust in one of Rashford or Martial up top.

I want to defend him, say he's still 24, still obviously improving, still a work in process etc..

But the simple fact is that if he had gone to Chelsea and done this we'd be rolling around laughing at him.

However it turns out for him it's clear he can't play himself out of this funk, needs a spell out of the side.

He's not playing to his own strengths. It's nobody else's fault he loses physical battles to players the size of Fernandinho.
That is also true, however, Jose got to take a blame as well for not resting him enough throughout, he does look like physically drained person to me at this moment and should not be played for a bit, give him some time to recharge his batteries.

Pretty unlucky today, but definitely needs taking out of the spotlight. We have at least 3 players who can play up top, give him a break. Hopefully he'll come back stronger.

I'm less fussed about the two 'assists' - that happens - but he's a striker given the ball 9 feet out and hits at chest height in the middle of the goal. That's simply not good enough.

As wretched as the performance was, can't blame the miss on him. The keeper's luck was something else. It was a clean hit, well placed under the conditions. The ball hit the guy's throat.

I hate to blame individuals but he was like the old Fellaini today, gave away silly goals and fecked up our attack.

His record against the big teams at Everton was poor too.

What are those exactly? He has been piss poor in absolutely every aspect of the game. Good thing he got 1-2 assists recently so people can throw some stats around how he helps the team...

I'm just gonna say it but I hate that we bought him. We're stuck with him for the next 5 years and have to play our more talented young attackers out of position to accommodate him.

Some of us pointed out his lack of technique and composure (at times) but we were shouted down. Now it's a problem for us, and we paid a lot for the privilege.

Still, I like the guy and will be supporting him, as getting on his case is not going to help the situation.
And to be fair to him, when we play like how we started the 1st half, you can't blame him as it just doesn't suit him. In fact, it doesn't suit any of our players imo.
