Cannot hold the ball up for toffees. Even Eriksen is better at that, let alone Kane.

My view is he's the biggest upgrade requirement in our starting XI.

Decent enough striker, never worth the extravagant fee we paid for him, which has caused supporters to have extravagant expectations from him.

You look at Kane's hold up and then you look at his.

Very poor and he is bigger and stronger.

Kane plays a different sport to him in regards to hold-up play.

Lukaku just doesn't impose himself enough.

Get him on the right, Martial up top, Alexis left, and a 3 man midfield with, for the time being, one of Herrera/Fellaini.

Any chance that he’ll win an aerial duel, hold the ball up or link the play up properly?

Difference between him and Kane is night and day.

Standard performance against a decent side really. If he’s isolated he’s doing feck all. Meanwhile Kane is running his bollocks off down the other end.

Needed to sign Giroud as well from Arsenal perhaps. We would atleast be 2-1 with any other striker.

Still maintain he's not good enough for the highest level, but okay, we spent 75 mil and he's atleast going to get 2 more seasons to prove his worth.

I can't get over how little he actually offers. Not quick enough on the counter, rarely presses and generally a bit all over the place.

At the back post
Pogba, Sanchez, Martial, Matic, Lingard. How awful, poor guy
You could play another three attackers, it wouldn't matter - we've surrendered the midfield area.

For me it's poor tactics and poor lineup selection tonight. Should've gone 4-3-3 with Herrera in there.

Best believe we have a problem if the guy leading our line can't get the ball to stick
It amazes me how people can't see the obvious problem is not the attack, it's the midfield where we are being overrun...

Lukaku has had nothing but scraps to feed of. Likewise Sanchez and Lingard. Martial has had the best service.

If the team doesn’t do anything for him, he doesn’t offer anything in return. Runs into offside multiple times, loses duels, looks half-assed, slow on the turn and not interested in chasing defenders. Limited player - and he doesn’t score enough goals either.

And he plays 90 minutes. Every single game.

You could say that about all the lethal goal scorers.

Still, when he does get those scraps, he doesn't distribute the ball well, he's slow on the turn because of his size/weight, he's predictable with his touch, turn, shoot - hence they mostly get blocked by defenders, he looks to me like half the player he is when he's not feeling like the best player in the team.

Honestly think people are just waiting to criticise him.

He gets absolutely fecking nothing from our supporting players.

Not that impressed with him really.

Can’t remember a decisive goal he has scored for for us for ages.

I'm sorry but he's just not world class. Can you imagine any of the top teams having him as their main striker?

Yep, was the best of an abysmal lot last summer. Maybe we should have gone for Auba, but from what I heard he wastes a lot of chances as well and would probably be invisible for us in games like these.

This is embarrassing from Lukaku. Even his recent goals have been more stat-padding than actually vital ones.

Should’ve never signed him. He’s not united quality and never will be.

Such a waste of money that could’ve been used elsewhere

To an extent - but some players are perhaps more adept at dropping back into midfield (Rooney being an example), some strikers excel on movement and make it a lot easier for midfielders to provide them with service, while others are perhaps so skilled on the ball they can compensate for poor service when they do get it.

I'm not sure that's the case with Lukaku. For all the physicality and power he has, his main attribute is that he's essentially a clinical poacher; get him regular service and he'll generally be a very good finisher, but leave him isolated and there's not too much to his game that'll mean he can overcome that on his own.

Obviously all strikers do depend on good service, but some can thrive off of less than others.

All those annoyed at Lukaku, please remember this is the same striker that got pocketed by Daily Blind. It has been well established that Blind lacks the physicality for the EPL yet he coped just fine vs Lukaku. What I am getting at is it is kind of to be expected.
