Stop it. I'm so close to opening up steam and buying it!! Gahh, need more reports from ye folks, any major bugs thus far? @Art Vandelay et al?
Not sure if I'd classify it as a bug. Given my previous thieving issues and guards now demanding to search me I ran into a bit of a problem. I was doing a quest and had to find a certain man to talk to, marker put him in the markets/shops area. I could not find him at all though, assumed he was underground and began poking around behind the shops. Generally searching and getting into various areas. When a guard walking along the inner wall on a catwalk decides I need a searching. So I have to submit to this. The problem is he is so fecking far away from me and has no way to get to me. Meaning I can't submit and it turns into a whole thing.

So I go home to rest, do some lockpick side quest and plan to come back tomorrow. Next morning I'm walking into the city and the guard stops me at the gate, I've committed a crime by not submitting to being searched, despite it being his fecking fault that I couldn't submit to it. I can either go to jail or pay a heavy fine which is shit as I'm broke and going to jail causes stat de-buffs that last ages. I rage quit. First time I got fed up with it, the lock picking had already put me in bad form. It's just utterly shit with a pad.

Going to put it on later and load an earlier save. Maybe pull an all nighter with it.

@DatIrishFella you gonna get it on PS4?

Think I will this weekend.
Nah brother, PC for me. Have it hooked up to me tele so it better recognize my ps4 controller as it's impossible to play with a wireless mouse and keyboard.

For those a few hours in, how's the pacing and quality of the storyline/writing?
Surprisingly good so far. It's very grounded, while just pushing you along. I'm about 10 hours in and it's yet to just dump me into the world and tell me to get on with it. Feels like it's holding back while it tells it's story and sets things up. I've quite enjoyed the pacing.

Anyone that has a choice between console and PC should definitely go PC. Although I'm very much enjoying it on XB1-X it's clearly not designed with controllers in mind.

What kind of spec do you have? I have a new PC being put together currently, I'm wondering how well I can run it. It has an I7, a GTX 1080 and 16GB of RAM.
I have an i7 5820k, GTX 1080 and 16gb DDR4 and it runs quite well, not full ultra settings but some stuff knocked down to high like shadows etc. I get mostly between 60-70fps with the odd occasional drop in to the high 50's

It is not an AAA game, so I guess that any good PC will work.
AAA game or not, it is quite demanding due to the sheer size of the game, the foliage/forests are so dense too so bound to work the PC's

Lockpicking with a controller is just brutal. Had 3 runs at the easy chest - 15 keys all fail
2 runs at a very easy, all fail.
25 fecking attempts.
Turned my xbox off after that.

Anyone starting the game who has a bit of patience, I would strongly advise you to pick flowers while doing jobs for your dad.

Hebalism levels really quickly, you can sell the flowers, get free points in charisma and vitality (from picking nettles) and once you get it to 10 you can level your strength with it.

That's awesome, I had no clue. I've been randomly picking poppies around Rattay, but had no idea what I was going to do with them. I never thought I'd be planning to go look for nettles.

Is it hard to use keyboard and mouse with this? Better on PS4 or?

The lock picking currently seems to be more suited to PC, though I think it might be patched for console.
Cool, thanks. I might wait a bit till the price shifts and more patches come out. Meanwhile i'll dip back into Kingdoms of Amalur.

Anyone tried that log shooting archery thing "chumps" it's definitely bugged on PS4 I keep hitting the logs but it didndoe register my points and I can clearly see the arrow joy.

Such a brilliant hand just needs a few patches to fix everything.

Almost forgot the game was on today, been to engrossed in this.
Just finished the patrol mission
Finally got my head around Lockpicking/pickpocketing, helps to level up a few times most certainly.

Been picking up a lot of flowers (thanks for the tip)

I was initially very impressed with the crime system. I was able to flee from one guard without the entire town going mental. So I assumed it was deeper than the Skyrim system of psychic guards. Unfortunately it's gone back to psychic guards. I pickpocketed a woman on the edge of the city, she woke up and I ran away before I could be spotted. I thought I'd gotten away with it and went on with my quest, that involved talking to the bailiff, whom I was struggling to find. I eventually found him in his bed. Woke him and he immediately came at me with a club calling me a thief for the pickpocketing incident which he had slept through!

Kind of disappointed in that. I'd hoped we'd gotten past psychic guards.

That's a bit of a turn off. I hate that shit. I am currently replaying Oblivion on PC and killing someone in a house, only to be arrested the second I step outside is lame.

It's not as bad as Skyrim/Oblivion, but it's not much better in that regard.

I did have another "this is not TW3!" moment. I went exploring the roads near home and found a night that fancied a duel. So I had flashbacks to the guy that wanted to challenge Geralt in the name of Maid Bilberry and accepted his challenge. He beat the bejesus out of me. I had to limp home bloodied and embarassed. Although he had a full suit of armour and I only had a gambeson so he was clearly cheating.

Archery is nails! I'm getting a bit better but even hitting an onrushing bandit straight in the face with an arrow won't kill him if he has armour.

Started hunting bandit cumans not they are tough to beat on a sword fight, need to be more clever with them sneak up on them etc.

I am liking the game so far but i dont see why people are calling it much better than bethesda games or any other rpg. Seems quite similar to me, just with way more loading screens.

Might buy this and support the developer.

Especially as places like reset era are saying we should boycott it because one member of staff is a idiot. Yeah, we should punish the rest.

What about you @afrocentricity?

I think it is because it is an actual RPG where you have to learn sword fighting not just be an instant hit at it. You also have to learn to read and stuff.

All the people claiming Lockpicking is broken (it is on controller) are just impatiant also, as you level up your ability the locks become easier to manipulate.

In Bethesda games, you pop out the fault with the aiming skills of Clint Eastwood.

Still not done any flower picking, keep forgetting! Is it too late to start now?
It's never too late and it does level up super fast. There's enough nettles around Rattay to get you the bonus too, I think I got it after 100.

@DatIrishFella I dunno if you're still looking for updates, mate. Here's one anyway.

I was happily playing away last night, doing the whole "One more quest" thing. Then I realised it was 6.30am and I'd been playing all night. While I am absolutely loving it and in many ways it's the RPG I've always wanted, it's not actually any different at all from a Bethesda game in some respects and worse in others. There's the crime system that I've already ranted about, then there is animal AI. You can land an arrow right beside an animal and they won't react at all. In fact you can land an arrow right *in* an animal and it won't react at all. I put 5 arrows in a deer(also put about 8 arrows around a deer, but that's an entirely different matter) and it just stood there grazing until I had enough in it for it to die.

Saying that though, it's incredibly immersive. I'm very much enjoying the combat so far. I fought a couple of knights, one beat the shit out of me in seconds. The other battle lasted about 5 minutes and I eventually lost. Then I fought two Cumins at once. One stood back with a bow while the other attacked with sword and shield. Trying to out think and out maneuver them was a joy. I'm just fuming I couldn't carry the sword and shield due to all the armour I had on. I dunno what actually happened the bowman, I think he ran off when I defeated the swordsman.

I love the atmosphere and having to essentially plan Henry's day. I went to see what was over a hill near home, it was starting to get dark and I could hear wolves howling. At that point I got spooked and turned back. I do prefer a fantasy setting and that kind of thing could be awesome in it. Dirt system could use a bit of tweaking though.

Trying to figure out how to finish quests can be a bit needlessly obtuse.

Anyone know how to level stealth? I can't get any experience in it at all. Possibly because I'm rattling like Robocop at mardi gras.

That's pretty much it, I found an alchemy hut earlier, went inside started alchemy.. then ran away.. looks quite intimidating.
Managed to finally get the hang of Lockpicking, now I have 2 levels in it and plenty of practice It's much more enjoyable (on controller)

I'm at the bit where you fight 2 enemies first time for most I imagine (second time for me but one of the enemies was an archer)
It is so challenging, the AI's pretty smart as they're always trying to flank and it's incredibly difficult to keep both enemies in your FOV.
Very few games where fighting more than one enemy is so intimidating. M&B Warband and Darksouls comes to mind (fecking dogs)

I think I just finished the bit you're talking about. I died about 4 times before one of them, in the middle of the fight decided to go for a sleep and leave his mate with the ax to finish me. Still took a while but I eventually killed him, went back to the camp and took out the sleeping git.

I fought three enemies for the first time. Bloody nightmare, two is a task, three is a right bollocks. Especially when they all have shields.

1 was sitting at the camp, so knocked him out and then stabbed him a dozen times!
Then tried knocking the other out but he got out of it *you call that combat*, gave me a right old fight.
Ambushed by 2 bandits shortly after while fast traveling, won the fight, couldn't find one of the bodies as I was literally on 1 HP!
Romancing is fun.
Forests are incredible in this game.

Got this on Friday evening. It's buggy as feck, poorly optimised and I get 5 second freezes seemingly at random. But my god it's good

When you gain a new piece of armour it really feels like you've earned it. Also going from someone who was useless to a sword to now being able to take on three bandits at once and still come out alive feels awesome.

Some of the quests are a little tedious though, such as when you're searching for members of a certain gang. You travel ages to a village, ask ten folk if they've heard of the guy, go to another location and ask a couple of more. I can understand that it makes the hunting seem more realistic but throw in a few surprises here and there to break the boredom. I've already patiently rode ten minutes to get to you so give me something!

Have to learn how to read is a brilliant mechanic as well, as is cleaning your clothes (although it would be good if we could do this ourselves with kits so I'm not hunting for a bathhouse all of the time).

It's hard to believe that the game only cost five million to make and with a developer making their first game, when you consider the scale and depth of it's design and gameplay. In fact, if it wasn't for the buggy engine then I would have been very impressed. Right now I'm teetering between "loving it" and "wanting to punch my monitor".
