Off the ball runs are so simple in theory, but we'e been plagued by players who don't do it for few years now. It's so refreshing to see Lingard constantly running into spaces and making himself difficult to mark. Mata is also similar but not as quick. On top of that he's always pressing high. Haters will keep hating but he's got potential to be a very good player for us for years to come.

A goal or assist every 122 minutes in the league. De Bruyne is currently at an average of 121. Lingard has been phenomenal this season.

I remember I gave him a fair load of criticism earlier in this thread. But yeah, he's proved me wrong.

However, I really hope he stops acting like a 15 year old on social media. Getting where you truly want in life and in you career requires 100% focus.

Let him live his life. He gives everything on the pitch and that’s what really matters.

The kid is running his lungs out for the team and you're questioning his social media activities.

Btw. looking at his development, whatever he's been doing so far he should keep doing.

The way he presses doesn’t get enough credit and along with his superb movement makes playing him in the middle worthwhile despite not being the best passer.

I'm not questioning the work ethic nor level where he is at, he is excellent. I just think he has the tools rise a few levels above what he has been showing(which is a good fecking level). He is fairly young.

I just think that proper determination could make him better.

I just don't see any connection between what he is doing on a social media (which shows about 0,1% of his personality and life) and his success on the pitch. Don't see how you could end up with a conclusion that such stuff is in any way detrimental (or could be) to his development.

Why does it matter to you ? What makes you think he is not fully focused ??

Find it romantic that among the star players in our attack that were bought for big money, it's Jesse who's a youth product that makes the difference in our game.

I thought he was our best attacker in the first half, he faded in the second but so did everyone else.

Oh didn’t you know? They should be spending every waking hour of the day running laps or something.

The early goal made Swansea come out and try to play. If it hadn’t happened they would have gone full bus and Jesse would have struggled to find space. He used it well today and put in a great first half. Still improving and developing.

Swansea didn't come out and try to play at all in the first half though.

Jesse has played well at home all season against teams sitting deep.

He always had brilliant movement and he is intelligent on using space. Mata-Lingard-Sanchez is probably the best bet if we want a fliexible attacking trio behind Lukaku. Martial and Rashford are too one dimensional.

However, I feel, if we are to go one level up, we need a better #10, somebody who is better when there is not much space. Lingard's problem is he is not that good at consistently creating chances or scoring. Today too he had few poor passes in their box. Even his assist was actually directly hit at defender's foot, but made it to Sanchez by slight luck, not that I care though.

We were trying to break down a double decker bus for the whole 1st half. Only in the 2nd half did Swansea try to press us and attack more, and that was when Lingard was less effective.

His personality is also a reflection of the kind of player he is on the pitch. He’s persistent, eager and confident. But sure, let’s strip that away from him and make him play like a robot. Should have asked Ronaldinho to do the same.

Personally I love his Snapchat stories. He connects with fans well unlike many footballers. We’re lucky to have guys like Bailly, Pogba, Jesse who make this kind of effort.

I just flicked back to after the Huddersfield away game where I worked myself up defending him . Lad was getting slaughtered. Then the Swansea game in the league cup happened .

The amount of shite he was getting then and what he has turned into now as an academy player makes me just :D.

Embarrassing to see some of those posts slaughtering him. Don’t even want to flick back.

Any team that pays near 40 million for Lingard, i will drive him to the airport myself. Dude is near 25 million. I dont know if any top club would ever want him, and Id put Spurs and Arsenal on that list. He's a level below, Southampton, West Ham, etc.
I think Arsenal or Spurs won't spend around 40m for a non-starter. So it left with mid-table teams. I don't think for the position he plays optimum (no. 10), United should rely on a mid-table quality as regular player, don't you think so? I wonder if fans of the City, Liverpool, Spurs, or even Arsenal would be thrilled to have Lingard as one of their regular attacker, as many of our fans are.
Chamberlain, Bakayoko, Gylfi Sigurosson. Each sold for 35, 40, 45 mil +, and none are on Lingard's level.

Jesse's going nowhere. Along with a handful of our core, he is an indispensable member of our squad.

People complain about not giving youth a chance, and yet when we've got the finest Academy product in years lighting up the big stages they're saying he should be shipped off to West fecking Ham.

We're second in the league, and Jesse's contributed to that more than any other attacking player not named Romelu Lukaku.

He'll be playing for United long after everyone has changed their opinion of him.

Except for his Utd team played 4-4-2 ,there is no position for Lingard .

Rio’s praise means feck all.

Ferdinand on Ravel: I will pay to watch him train.

On Wilson: he will score many goals because he will unnerve opposition defenders.

On Micheal Keane: He will be a top player one day.

ON Wotton: he is mature beyond his age. He will impress everyone this season.

On Iwobi: He will hurt the opposition and not just sit and watch other senior players play.

Damn, that was a darn good performance, except shooting, his all around game is that good. That pass to Lukaku.

:smirk: His passing ability and passing awareness are improving (he have always been creative though, but not too "aware" like this).

Season of Lingod 17/18.

We can kiss the league goodbye for years, as long as Lingard become a regular no. 10 at United.

Yeah, we know it all, right? We are Redcafe pundits. We don't believe in giving players time to show their potential, particularly if he is from our own ranks.

I find it strange that Lingard consistently underwhelms with the fans no matter what he does. It's like some fans who claim to watch matches selective switch off whenever Lingard has the ball. Yes he's been poor in some previous seasons, but his contribution for this season has been massive.

I feel like we're watching this kid turn the corner in his career, much like how Becks did after the halfway line goal and Ronaldo after the wink. It remains to be seen if he can truly keep up this level of performance year after year; he'll be a damn fine player for us if he does. But importantly, when you watch him play through the middle, it's his assurance that marks the difference. And players are now giving him the ball, where they'd often bypass him when he's out wide, because he's not a player that goes round the outside of his fullback, nor is he a player who turns his marker outside in.

What Lingard is, is a fantastic footballer who's so effective by doing the little things, making runs, being in the right place at the right time, going between the lines, pressing his man. This season he's found his shooting boots, and long may it continue. Rio said it best; Dele Alli, England's next new bright attacking midfield hope, is on 10 goals this season, Lingard already has 13, and many of those are absolute peaches, yet he doesn't get anywhere near the plaudits that Alli has.

I believe the slow realization of Lingards's ability is about the fans desiring names and star quality in the attacking roles. Lingard is a late developer. Said it before but Utd have tried so many players in that 10 role in recent years, big names and none of them have produced what Lingard has. As Rio said the simplicity of his game, one/two touch, playing on the half turn, keeping the ball moving, how mobile and alert he is in finding space, developing into a very effective player.

We could put Sanchez there but he would be trying the killer pass all the time, constantly dropping too deep to get the ball. He would provide moments of exceptional quality but he is not a playmaker or a facilitator of others in the way that Lingard is. I also wish Martial was as active off the ball as Lingard is, instead of standing and waiting for the ball to feet.

So pleased for Lingard. The stick that he gets here is ridiculous. Never downs tools and is always looking to attack or exploit spaces.
Has had a great season and hopefully he will kick on from here and become even better.

A goal or assist every 122 minutes for Lingard. Odds on Player of the Year favourite De Bruyne has a goal of assist every 121 minutes, this in a side that functions far better offensively than we do. And you question his productivity?

This. He really should get more credit. He’s got the fight in him. Any other team in the prem would welcome him on the form he has shown this season.

Except they didn't and he used various formations, especially in later years. I assume Fergie would love to have him as a player.

He may not be the most talented, but he makes the best out of what he has. There are many more talented players that fail to do this.

Think you should re direct that post to the pogba performance thread.at least lingard can do his talking on the pitch as well as on social media. The same can’t be said of pogba
