I just don't see it. A good physical defender with pace and strength but very rash. He lost Vardy on their goal and passed straight to a Leicester player for another chance in the first half. Not a bad performance overall but the comments surprise me given the abuse the other CBs get for every mistake.

Good performance, but he's a complete loon isn't he, if we're honest. Mostly it's hilarious, but occasionally he does shit like that completely unnecessary 2 footed tackle in the middle of the park with no real danger. With Marriner handing out fouls against us left right and centre, it was unnecessarily risky.

With a player like Bailly, I'm not sure you can remove that madness while maintaining all of his attributes. A bit like crazy Rooney being best Rooney.

He's quick and strong in tackle but his concentration is so poor that I'd be worried about him late in games. He'd do well with a vocal partner who'd keep him engaged.

Way better than some of the CB's we were linked with, like Maguira and Mina. Needs to play every time, he's by far our best defender.

That 2 footed lunge though, so erratic. At his best levels above the rest but capable of some of the most moronic moments you could ever see.

Tremendous fun to watch though and in a Mourinho side I will cherish every moment of entertainment. Make him Captain.

Thought he was fantastic other than the last 4 mins, probably down to being the first game of the season.

Immense performance.

Very good apart from the goal. Was in two minds. Maybe De Gea could have came out too, but impressive performance overall. Got us out of trouble a few times.

Indeed, I can't think he inspires much confidence in those around him even in games like today where he was alright.

I really wouldn't be surprised if he was dropped for a Smalling or Jones when they're fit to the anger of the entire forum.

He is such a fun defender to watch and also very talented, but he does go overboard sometimes. Need a season without injuries to sharpen out his flaws imo.

Beast. Such a top defender just hope he can stay fit. 2 of my Liverpool mates praising him and Fred tonight which is very strange as they normally slag all our players.

Immense. What a beast. I wish he was more dominant in the air though...even if he was half as dominant as he is on the ground.

You don't just like him. If you can't see his talent, then i dunno. He passes out better than them, the anticipates danger better than them. In fact, his concentration flaw comes once in a while unlike the other two. He is more agile, quicker, sharper, and braver. The only issue with his erraticness is his injury record. I can't remember him costing us a penalty, he doesn't hold unto shirts in the box constantly like smalling does, and has only ever conceded one own goal for us. It would have been nice to have signed a more experienced centre back with him, but in terms of what we have, he is by far the most capable.

It's not that I 'can't see his talent', it's that I think that he's incredibly raw and people make excuses for an awful a lot with him because they like watching a nutter run around and throw himself into challenges.

This.
I think Bailly gets away with mistakes in a way Lindelof wouldn't do just because Bailly is such a force and makes really nice tackles quite often. Whats leading to the situation where a f.e. tackle is needed is often overlooked. With that said I think Bailly and Lindelof could complement each-other really well - one is more safe (position and passing) and the other is more dominant in areas of physic. Especially if they both works on their weak sides.

Very solid today apart from the goal. Smalling/Bailly/Lindelof is a great core of defenders to grow over the next few seasons. The attributes that Bailly and Lindelof have in combination fit together very well.

That is a fair point. It is true. But I think it has more to do with him being more assured in his defending, and his mistakes not really hurting us. Even in his worst games, he still looks confident, with and without the ball, which is not to say he is a good passer.

Very good, and composed. I think he has a better partnership with Lindelof than Smalling, which is a shame because those him and Smalling could be one of the best defences around if they made it work. Im not sure it will.

He was manhandling Leicester's attackers. Then made a stupid rash tackle without any need. Then switched off for the goal.

But it was good to see someone treating the opponents like they were kids.

We need Bailly to do two things:

  1. Stay fit
  2. Stay switched on
If he does that he can become the rock at the back we desperately need.

He oozes class. Just plays with swagger. Players were just bouncing off him tonight.

Pretty much. He was mostly good today and covered Lindelof a few times when he got caught out, but was caught out twice late on. His concentration just goes. He's also very prone to the rash clearances where he doesnt want to use his wrong foot so he he uses a weird technique with his right foot which could send the ball anywhere. Its quite panicky

Still a good performance overall but reminded me of Jones today. Mostly good stuff then made some mistakes.

Decent until Leicester put a proper striker on, then got exposed again.

His chaos is seductive, but is also going to be costly over the season.

the goal was on de gea tho. bailly was with vardy. no way de gea should've let that ball run across him and hit the post.

I was impressed with Bailly tonight. Solid performance from him. Our defensive two looked pretty comfortable today without too much being thrown there way. When something needed dealing with, Bailly was there more often than not. There was that moment in the first half however where I literally told myself he was getting sent off from what looked like a two footed lunge .
