Hope he signs a new contract soon. Will get another lease of life under a new coach.

Yep, he's the only exciting player we have apart from Pogba. Watching him last night gets me excited and I enjoy watching it. I say to myself "give it to Tony!", especially when he's in those moods.

Yes he's not perfect and can improve lots of things, but he just has that raw talent that not many others have. Speed is a major attribute in football and when we don't have it we look so much worse.

I noticed that his off the ball movement last night was MUCH better than usual. He was doing 3rd man runs quite often which is rare for him, and he was pulling his full back inside and then spinning in behind (standard wingers trick) but he rarely does things like that. I hope that wasn't just a 1 off, as he's so much more effective if he does stuff like that.
Yes, he's definitely improved areas where he was getting the most criticism from, rightfully so I might add. I hope this isn't a fad but becoming a trend because he can be so dangerous if he keeps improving his off-the-ball movement. The only issue is he'd make a lot of runs without getting the ball, and only guys like Pogba can be consistent at rewarding those runs.

It's sad that the two players most capable of creating something out of nothing happen to be the two players Mourinho's had an issue with the most.

Sorry if it hurts your feelings, but I just haven’t seen Martial deliver too many match winning performances in his time here - for example, I’ve yet to see him influence a match in the way that Sanchez influenced the City comeback. For me, he’s all potential at the moment- potential worth persisting with - but potential nonetheless.
Then you must have only started watching football at United since January last season, anytime before then, including his first season has far more than what Sanchez has ever done.

Only shows you have a short memory, Martial has won us games and has been instrumental in winning the FA Cup too. Yes a 22 year old is potential, I'm not saying he's the real thing but the experienced pro we bought to replace him has been stinking out the place. So I'd rather a 22 year with potential do well rather than a 30 year old stink up the place and then fecks off to to USA or China.

Was unbelievable in the first half, but I couldn't catch the 2nd half. Reminded me of his 1st season performances, using his physical and technical qualities to the fullest. Hopefully we can see more of this.

I reckon if he played for Pep or Klopp he'd be lethal. I think he's completely unmotivated to play in this team for Mourinho

The Martial of LVG's first season did, but that player has only fleetingly appeared since. I agree that I'd rather go with Martial's potential at this point, given that Sanchez looks spent. I just don't think has produced that much under Mourinho, and that some fans have been upset with Sanchez's lack of quality that have overstated Martial's contributions last season.

who really has produced consistent performances under Mourinho? No one is downplaying the excellent performances of others to big up Martial, he has been the best of a bad bunch. Why people mentioning that aggravate you so much?

If anything, Martial, DDG, and Lukaku were the only ones giving some consistency in their performances where Martial was stringing PotM awards and goals/assist until January. Your observation literally applies to the entire team and least so on Martial and the other two.

Disagreement doesn’t equal aggravation. You’re perfectly entitled to your opinion, however ill-informed it might be

He's 22 years old.
Spot on. He looks it as well, still raw as hell and doesn't look anywhere near the required level of fundamentals to lead the attack on the left hand side and nail down that starting role. I hope he starts against West Ham, but I can just see him having this same performance but nothing comes off and then people getting on his case and and questioning why he is in the team again.

That will certainly happen, there is a small contingent who are never heard from when he's doing well and are just waiting to pounce on any negative performance, but they don't matter. The fact is, I would rather we play through a bad Martial performance, knowing he's capable of better because young players need playing time and the confidence of their coach to get the best out of them, rather than catering to an overpaid player who seems to be past it and can fill other positions. Sanchez has been allowed to play through bad form, and I think there's something positive in that but Martial needs to be treated the same and I think he will reward that patience through the good and bad games in the long run.

I feel like the resurgence of Martial is imminent, like this time last season over Rashford. He's looked highly motivated since half time at Young Boys. Think he could pip Sanchez to that starting spot on the left before Christmas.

Martial should start every game on the left for us, he needs to play to build up confidence and is by far the best option we have there and perhaps the only player we have that can beat a opponent in 1 vs 1 duel. Rashford should start at striker instead of Lukaku at the moment and I belive Sanchez should start on the right with Chong as next option on the right wing.

Anyone who says Martial should play as a LW playing to supply a target man is just significantly wrong.

Why do we play with make shift wingers all over the place when all we really have is forwards?

Play martial as a LF instead next to Lukaku or even play him as a False 9 with Rashford on the other side & watch him turn in to another level.

Same thing with Sanchez & Lingard - forwards any day of the week than suppliers.

Let me guess - playing three forwards does not happen because of Martial's personality being poor  - just poor management of players that are at the managers disposal.

Sanchez has to play through the bad form. The heirachy of the transfer strategy dictates that you have to play Sanchez and at least try to get a return on the investment for him, it is unfortunate for Martial but to me I would prefer to see Martial work his bollocks off and show that he deserves the spot no questions asked. I'd be much happier if Martial made a fool of Ed and the club by knuckling down and showing that he can beast out and take Sanchez's spot even if he's in good or bad form. (You know, like a normal player would usually do?..) Instead he kind of threw his toys out of the pram and had a big sook about it. Now that he's come back and there is some room for him to get game time he's not really shown he's developed any more in that time since the end of last season. I still see the same raw 22yo who's game is a dice-roll on whether his 8-15 dribbles a match come off.

It is unfortunate that Sanchez is there but people need to grow up and get the hell over it. Sanchez is the senior player, the more experienced and integral to the tempo of the team player and he gets paid an absolute bomb and must be forced in there no matter what. It sucks, but that's what happens when the CFO spunks his wad on superstar players and the manager has to ram them into the team. If Martial was paid substantially less than his crazy overvaluation then we could easily just offer him a new deal on a wage that would befit his status in the team. As it turns out he does not deserve a pay increase to keep him at the club and that is another problem of the CFO painting the squad into a corner with his insane deals that LVG didn't look like he wanted foisted on him. Would have been better to get him from Lyon a year earlier for 10m and let him develop here with a sensible wage.

the hate on Martial is incredible here, thank god none of these ''fans'' are managers or else they would have sold him! All he needs is a run of games to hit form and bench sanchez or play him on the right.

He had been our best attacking player for a couple of months before losing his spot to Sanchez, and our second best behind Lukaku for the couple of months before that. To some extent that was a sad indication on the rest of the guys as Martial hadn't been 'that' good, but he was still better during that period than anyone else has been since. Indeed, other than Lingard for a two month period, not a single one of our attackers have played well since.

That's a really strange way of looking at it. How can he be integral when he hasn't been for 99% of his games? The only positive thing people can muster about him is that he runs tirelessly, the problem is he's usually running after the balls he's losing all over the pitch. Martial is a risk as well, but I disagree with you when you say he hasn't shown any development. The last few games, he has definitely increased the amount of off-the-ball runs he makes, he is far more active in his movement as well; two of his biggest criticisms. Now, this could be just a fad that averages back out to his regular performances, but even in his lesser performances, I'd still rather have Martial over Sanchez for three reasons. One, he is one of the few players who can create something out of nothing, and if he loses the ball trying it usually winds up being in the final third and not as dangerous as when Sanchez loses the ball all over the pitch. Two, he is younger and has far more chances of improving with time, experience, and managerial backing than Sanchez, and three he has shown a better understanding with Lukaku and an underrated ability to create for others.

Time will tell whether Martial is a Manchester United player, but the jury is still out despite what people want to think. Give the kid time and let's see what he has. Sanchez can always play somewhere else.

Think you're right there. Martial probably won't keep the spot over the full season because he is inconsistent and has a very low bar but think he's about to go on a run. Kick Sanchez out to the right, he's at the point now where he can't complain.

Calls to bench Sanchez are ridiculous though as we'll have another player kicking up a fuss if we do that.

Sanchez doesn't have to do shit. Nobody should have a guaranteed spot in the team based on anything other than football performances. Liverpool just bought Fabinho for over 40m pounds and he sits on the bench while Milner and Wijnaldum start, because they play better and Fabinho needs to earn his place. That's why they are where they are and we are in this fecking mess.

I agree with this. We should have our wide forwards in positions to get goals more than just be providers to Lukaku.

When you look at Barcelona or Liverpool front 3 for example, they're wider players are helped to score (and obviously help create too) more than just create and mark full backs. Their forwards move all over and cause havoc...thats what we need. Better movement and dynamism in our approach

I agree with Martial on the left, but I can't for the life of me see what Rashford has done lately to suggest he's better at leading the line than Lukaku. I know Lukaku's been missing chances, but we're talking about chances I'm not sure Rashford would have been anywhere near.

Still, back to Martial!

No he shouldn't, the games he has started as the striker this season, he has been poor

Looks like he's just coming back to form with a few games in the team. It will soon be time to buy someone else, drop him, and make disparaging remarks about his attitude to the press.

Rashford should be nowhere near the first team at the moment, let alone be our main striker...

Just play him on the left for 5-10 games straight, no matter how be performes. That’s what we’ve been doing with Alexis anyways.

So why not give him a shot? He either performs and earns a place or proves that he is not good enough and we can sell him and not renew his contract.

I meant about the time he was actually dropped back in February. And even with the birth of the baby, it was nothing by Mourinho, it was made a bigger deal that it actually was.
Indeed, I mean the player wasn't fined or anything...

That's the annoying thing. Sanchez can have 5 stinkers in a row and never dropped. Martial makes 1 mistake and he's out in the cold for weeks.

He should be starting every league game now as he's in form.
