Sporting win 1-0 vs Feriense who were very resilient ! Youth product Jovane Cabral popped up with the winner for Sporting in the 88th minute. Still not sure on this kids quality yet in 4 games he has provided 2 assists and 1 goal all which have given us wins. He seems to be more of a physically apt winger then a technical one but I need to see him more to give a better judgement.

Anyways somehow someway Sporting have 10 points from their opening 4 games while not playing particularly well. After the break we face Braga away which will be a good game to see what we are made of.

Anyone saw Académica vs Benfica B yesterday?

Second half had a break for water, 6 substitutions, Benfica time wasting like a 5th division team, medic team 3 times on the pitch and one Benfica player coming off in a stretcher.

Académica equalizes in the last minute and the ref gives 5 minutes. I almost punched my TV.

I agree 100% I have always said Renato Sanches had and has minimal talent and was very overhyped because of his physical attributes.
I always said with the same age Ruben Neves had more natural talent and perception about the game. But I wish the kid finds a way to develop at his level, outside Bayern imo.
I agree with the hype stuff, although it has more to do with being a Mendes player than be a Benfica player. At the moment Benfica is the most useful club in Portugal for Gestifute.
Yes and no. Yes being a Mendes player is a passport, No, I don't agree only Benfica is useful for Gestifute. Far from it.

Technically inferior to Matheus Pereira, inferior potential compared with Gelson, and I even think Elves Baldé has more potential than him without being a world beater. Only yesterday I bothered to take more atention to our squad. Only 6 portuguese players, 4 from the Academy, and the only 1 who starts is Nani, while Jovane goes to the bench. Maximiano and Mané are only there to make the numbers. Depressing scenario, hopefully the next elected President has a fecking clue how to build a football identity.

Be it at youth level or mixing and integrating Academy players with better Scouting from abroad. Oh, and a football head coach who actually is not afraid of playing with young talents instead this shit we have to see every weekend.

If you go to Benfica message boards you will find 3 things:

1) nothing to do with Benfica, just a guy acting on his own

2) the justice system is corrupt and controlled by our rivals

3) but what about Porto 10 years ago?

Amazing how football fecks up people's neurons.

Benfica and Porto are both the same it baffles me how naive Benfica supporters are in their forum like they actually believe that they are the ones who get robbed game after game and that the FPF is controlled by the other 2 it baffles me. If you know Portuguese football you already know the answer our league is very corrupt I just wish that they would actually get punished like Juve was in their scandal but in Portugal it will Never happen.

Going back to Portugal’s team.. whats the point in playing young players and changing formation when the game is for real Fernando Santos goes back to 442 with all the dinosaurs? I can’t stand the guy.... ok lets go back to benfica’s problem, nothing happens the same way nothing happened with the apito dourado.

Frederico Varandas elected Sporing President.... this has all the makings to end terribly but only time will tell. For Sporting's sake I truly hope he succeeds.

Goodness, gracious me. I had no idea Benfica had signed Gabriel Pires from Leganes. Been a fan of his for a few years now - can play as a striker, #10 and a CM all to a good standard. Good signing for them, and I'm happy he's earnt a move to a bigger club!

João Felix scores 1-0 in his first game as starter. This kid is pure gold, i just hope he stays here longer than Bernardo Silva.

He is one of the few Benfica talents who deserve the hype they get. Kid has bags of talent he oozes class.

Just another day at the office for Peseiro... hopefully Varandas doesn't make the mistake of trying to bring some new player in January, we need to hire someone at the end of the season to replace Peseiro, it has to be someone who is clearly ahead of Vitoria and Conceição. Total waste of money bringing new players for Peseiro, he will only be here this season, even he knows it.

Nothing against Sporting but as I said previously, I enjoy watching this piece of trash named Peseiro failing.

Must be said, if it wasn't for that elimination against Zorya Abel would have a excellent start to the season. I don't know, but without having to play in Europe this season I don't know if they don't have a chance to win something here. Knowing Sporting don't have a chance under Peseiro, if it wasn't that massive prick Salvador as their President I wouldn't mind to see a new club winning in Portugal.

Oh and he also is doing a good job there with some renegated Portuguese players who don't seem good enough to perform at the bigger clubs but somehow look good enough to beat the other teams, who would have thought having someone who knows how to improve a team would take the best of his players?

Fernando Santos must start to pay some attention to some of their players as backup options for Portugal.

People overreact a lot. Loosing to Zorya is not a shocking result. They are actually a very solid club at Ukraine who are usually always at Europa League groups stage, and they are a team with a very solid defensive process and a great scout department, who have a good eye for national talent and for unknown brazilian players with talent. In the last five season they were always a top 5 team in Ukraine.

Their manager Vernydub is ahead of the club for many seasons and is considered one of the best managers in the league.

Yep and tbf they almost knocked Leipzig after Braga, they needed a last minute penalty to qualify. I think Abel like Conceição should try to change the way they play in Portugal when they are in Europe. Trying to play 4x4x2 in Europe was a big problem for JJ too, the only top team who in my head plays a similar system is Simeone Atletico, but actually they are more like 4 midfielders than a classic 4x4x2.

I think Abel will make a good carrer even if he is not exceptional. Actually if I could choose the next manager for Sporting after Peseiro I would try someone from Argentina, like Gallardo or something like that. I think the current managers in Portugal are way too similar, reason why I won't be surprised if Braga remains close to Benfica and Porto untill the end of the season.

I agree. Abel is proving to be a secure choice for a manager position to a team with ambition. Abel is now a valid option since Bruno de Carvalho is no longer the chairman.

Yes, I see little variety in our managerial pool in this new generation. They either play in 4x2x3x1 and try to instill high pressing and possession, or they use 4x4x2 and try to instill high pressing and vertical football.

Then we have those who just play low to medium block and quick counters.

Gallardo is a manager with great potential who's doing a great job with limited resources. Difficult to ask more from him.

The ones we have in Portugal are way too similar for my taste, working abroad only Fonseca, but he is very well paid at Donetsk, if he leaves there it will be for a stronger league.

With no European football I would say this season would be Braga best chance to maybe steal the title. They are doing their jobs against the smaller teams and have already beat Sporting. If they can steal wins at home vs Porto and Benfica then who knows.

It's also odd that we have certain resistance to try to hire foreign managers with potential. I mean, most of the players in the top clubs are not portuguese, anyway.

They have a window of opportunity here, with Porto and Sporting having lack of depth in their squads, and Benfica, despite having a more depth squad than last season, still need for the new players to adapt.

Still perplexed as to why Braga are still 28/1 on SkyBet to win the league. Looking at the results over the past season and this, they remind me of Benfica in the last 5 years where they hand out beatings to the diddy clubs. Porto will still wound up winning the title this year in my opinion, but as someone alluded to, if they get wins against Porto & sporting then it's a different ball game.

As Porto fans can remember from the times of Co Adriaanse or whatever his name is written, you don't need to win big games to win the title :P

Braga was able to retain some key players like Ricardo Horta, who IMO is top club material, and they gambled on an experience 29 yo striker named Dyego Sousa who not only is a very powerful striker, his distribution is very accurate.

They also retained Marcelo Goiano simply because he's 30 y.o. and top clubs usually prefer to hire players they can sell later. Because otherwise this fella would be playing at Benfica / Porto / Sporting.

They hired João Novais from Rio Ave, who IMO was the best midfielder from last season along with Bruno Fernandes, they hired Claudemir who is an experienced player who had played as starter at Standard and FK Kobenhaven.

Their squad has enough quality that Fransérgio, who is a very good midfielder, is benched.

I'm extremely impressed by Militão. He's going to be a decisive player for Porto this season. I don't think he'll stay more than two seasons at our league, though.

Strange hiring, since Rui Vitória usually fails to acomodate this kind of players in his linear 4x4x2 / 4x1x4x1. Would be a better fit for Porto's system atm.

Bloody hell, that was one awful game of football. The state of the league is incredibly poor.

The title will once again be won by the least terrible team.

Didn't watched this one but clearly guys like Vitória or Conceição aren't able to do much more than this. Not even mention Peseiro who is a joke, even Braga can win this year.

Goodness me Peseiro is more than atrocious. Only based on this first half I would imediately fire him. He made Portimonense look like Barcelona.

I will be surprised if Porto doesn't buy him. Even Ligue 1 clubs should have a look at him, would be interesting to watch him playing under someone like Bielsa at Leeds. There are good Japanese players to scout for smaller leagues.

Despite the terrible exibitions that would make Mourinho proud, points wise Peseiro was doing a decent job.

IMHO Miguel Cardoso will be a terrible choice: unexperienced and comes from a failure. IMHO Vítor Pereira would be a good choice, if available: he knows how to win titles with a less talented squad and his main con is being stubborn with the ball possession + high pressing football.
