Valencia, young and darmian have been an absolute dead end whenever the ball gets played out to them. Look at Real Madrid over the past 4 years and juve this year. Actual dribbling and football has to be played by the fullbacks. It will be very refreshing to see an actual footballer in that position.

Him and Shaw will be our future

Glad he got his debut over with without event. Early on he tried a few runs forward before settling in and realising that sort of thing is not acceptable here.

We'll turn him into another Valencia/Young/Darmian, we'll suck the attacking intent out of him

You can slam the shit out of him but rather watching him as RB then The ankle breaker Valencia and 50 games Young, Darmian not even gonna mention, not worth it.

He was bloody awful.

Offensively his crossing was poor and took an age to cross most of the time. Defensively, Arsenal players should have capitalised a lot more on the space he was giving.
Almost like he was a teenage full back signed after making 6 first team appearances and thrown in to a full first team debut after an injury lay off without much experience of the PL against a pretty decent side as a result of an injury crisis.

His positioning sense is terrible, I have lost count the number of times Kolasinac run in behind him. That moment where he took an age to make his mind up when Martial is free really pissed me off.

Yeah, he’s nowhere near ready to play at this level. It was almost impressive how little awareness he had of players making runs off him.

Naturally he'll take time to adjust. There were promising signs in his play and elements he clearly needs to work on.
Just needs the experience and gametime.

No doubt he'll get slaughtered by people who, ironically, are desperate for Jose to 'give youth a chance'.

I’m not sure how that negates an opinion on a solitary performance. He clearly was awful.

To be fair to him, he was a wing back in a 3-5-2/5-3-2 which usually is a more advanced position, which would explain why he was so far up. Obviously poor to let his man get past him so many times, but I'd wait until I see that tendency from him as a RB in a back four before I pass judgment on his positional ability

I shudder to think of what would happen when we’ll give a chance to Tuanzebe, Angel Gomes, etc
The lad is a 19 year old defender, that’s part of the deal with playing young players.
People are complaining when we buy 29 year olds, then they complain when a 19 year old defender is having a bad game, ffs...

We are a shockingly managed side, that’s the bottom line.

He will get better no doubt, I mean he couldn't do worse than that. I'm just highlighting what I'm seeing. If Young gave a performance like that he would have got destroyed.

I would give him a run of games. He's been out for awhile and doesn't look to have match sharpness. His crossing is normally very good from the little I've seen of him in the past. His quality will become apparent as he gets more game time.

Was quite awful defensively, but you can see what he can offer. He’s quite a bit better than Young, who’s the an absolute headless chicken when playing in defense.

Tough game to make your debut and don't want to be too harsh on the lad as he has plenty of time available, but he was getting a lot of basic defending wrong tonight. Positioning was really poor even from the start.

Looked very hesitant to close down defensively, and hesitant to put the ball into the box going forward

I guess he wasnt bad compared to how Young has played this season

So there's a reason he hasn't played. Very, very raw but time is on his side.

I thought he did well out there today, was very sharp with his tackling. Let in few runs behind because Arsenal were overloading his flank and Lingard wasn't offering any protection.

This place is hell for any player. the kid is just 19 and has been thrown into deep end after recovering from an injury. I saw sparks of a player in there, even going forward he has quality in his crosses. Let the kid settle in and give him some time!

Harsh game to judge him given the context plus he was a wing back, not a full back, for most of the game.

He was a decent outlet going forward and will have better games. Difficult match to get blooded into, but he survived and battled in an open game.

As a wingback you don't get protection. All you get is your RCB coming to front up the attacker when you're caught up the pitch and cant get back

Teams with wingbacks tend to face a lot of crosses coming in from wide for this reason

Pretty much everything came down the left flank for Arsenal, and he was out of position for most of it. Acceleration is poor and looked tired after 50 minutes. Pretty awful game from him, but a tough one to be thrown to the wolves for.

Not at all ready for the first team for me.
