Finally had some time to reflect on this and man i'm just so happy. The dire football, the shite attitude and the negative environment he created at the club are not worth the minimal "improvement" over LVG. He was backed financially (fight me), brought in his own players and still managed to complain and bitch about everything. I cannot emphasize how shite the football has been, United have become so damn easy to stifle under him (and LVG) despite the fact that we have some unquestionably talented players.
The manager's philosophy must be inline with the club's philosophy and values. Mourinho was a bad fit from day one that we accepted based on his pedigree. I was a Mourinho supporter who thought that he would deliver trophies and maybe recreate that fantastic Madrid side from 2012 but I was dead wrong. Tactically he has not evolved and has been left in the dust by the likes of Guardiola, Klopp, Zidane and others. Even managers who havent won anything like Sarri, Poch, Emry and Tuchel have delivered attractive football at the very least. I understand that it is extremely difficult to compete for trophies with the financial playing field being so leveled but it takes bravery and commitment to get in the mix and fight to win. I reckon Mourinho is finished as a top flight manager, I cant see him at another big club except PSG or Inter. I think it would be a terrible move for Madrid to take him in.
As to where we go from here I think most fans have written off this season so the club needs to focus on rebuilding in terms of placing a structure. Rushing into an appointment would be bad imo and I dont understand the reason for appointing an external interm manager when we have Carrick and McKenna who could do a job until the end of the season. Regardless, we need to have a DOF incharge of manager recruitment and player recruitment as well as reorganizing the scouting structure which sounds like a mess. Having a DOF is critical before we appoint someone and should be done as soon as possible.
Overall I feel positive, Mourinho's sacking will lift the fans and players (most of them) and gives us hope that the club is committed to achieving success. Plus we chant "feck Off Mourinho" again.
