Definitely not this season.
If we judge them on this half a season, bar Martial no one has been good enough in my opinion. Luckily we've seen enough from some better times, both are quality players who might improve our attack with a little bit of luck.

The best performing attackers are the best attackers, and they are the ones that get to play. It is safe to say that Lingard won't be completely dropped for someone that is not really performing better than him. Rotation at most.

Non of the big European clubs would be interested in buying Jesse Lingard for a reason and that is he dosn´t perform for like a top quality footballer over a season as he lacks key attributes for a attacker up front and that is passing and creativity + pace and acceleration to lead the line for a club that challenges for the biggest honours in football.

Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs both have vested interests in staying on the clubs good side and thus overly praise players in the media. If Lingard was so good as many here proclaims then he would not have been so poor for so long as good players will perform regularly even if their manager isn´t doing a very good job because they have the quality.
Like Pogba who is a world cup winner, or Martial who is world class, or even De Gea who is a world class keeper, etc...? Do you seriously believe the psychological aspect doesn't play a role at the highest level?

Anyway, Lingard is a very interesting player, I think we should play him more often, he's smart, and that is a key quality when trying to understand football.

I don't think that Solksjaer meant that he doesn't want a lot of people in the middle. I think it's just that they were too close at times. I recall Martial and Lingard running across each other at one point.

Look at Martial's goal. He picked up the ball in the middle (very close to the centre circle actually) and started dribbling. Then he, Pogba and Lingard used their 3v2 against the LB (Lingard's marker) and the DM (Pogba's marker) to fashion the opportunity for Martial to run past the spare CB and score.

Look at Lingard's run for the penalty. He moves into the middle, his marker 'can't' follow and he's picked out by Matic. He then uses this space to start running at the back line and is brought down in the area.

It doesn't make sense that Ole wanted more width when lack of width was got two of our goals.
Lingard's best position and most of his good work is done when he's high up and running into space. He's almost like a 2nd striker. It's fine against Cardiff but against good teams, OGS will need that width and that's an area where Lingard is not really suited for.

Either way it's small margins that we don't know for certain but I'd bet my money on an in-form Sanchez giving us a different type or even better quality in the wide attacking role.

He is agood player that can be part of a great squard, he might not be a starter in a strong first eleven but he can be the 5th choice attacker.
Martial, Rashford, Sancho, Sanchez and Lingard might be slightly inexperienced but good enough.

Have to agree. If Ole can get Sanchez into form, he should replace Lingard comfortably. Not taking anything away from Lingard performances against cardiff. He was good.

Martial----- - -------Rashford
---------- Sanchez--------

Is what i want to see going forward with Sanchez as inverted forward enabling Martial and Rashford.
Rashford is terrible on the right. If he isn’t playing the striker role or on the left wing why bother? The right should be reserved for lingard/mata/Sanchez.

Striker role should also go to rashford/Sanchez/lukaku. We already know who the left belongs too.

Lingard on the right has been good but as some have stated against better teams we might need to stretch the opposition a lot more and him drifting in all the time makes us more predictable. We have seen young occupy the space on the right when lingard drifts centrally but I doubt that tactic works against teams like Liverpool due to instant counters if we lose the ball early.

Very interesting to see more of olé tactics against better teams when we can’t be to progressive.

Think of it more of a indirect forwards. Players interchange their position all the time so his position is not set in stone.

Rashford has been inconsistent on the right. Yes, terrible sometimes, but also very good other times. That's enough to wonder how he'd go there in a more attacking system that gels a lot better. He may still struggle in which case we can cross him off as an option, or he might end up shining there.

Someone that is not playing at all, isn't performing yeah. :D

Let's see, I feel we would be a better side with Lukaku or Sanchez instead of him in the front 3.

He didn't perform well when he played.
Neither did Lingard for something like 10 months, scored 4 goals and 2 of those in games in which he was absolutely terrible and now is the best thing since sliced bread again. Sanchez and Lukaku should get chances to redeem themselves, they are very good players, who might make our attack better.

10 months is an exaggeration. He scored against Chelsea at the end of Febuary. There was games after that where he contributed but it just wasnt with goals and assists. Anyway, the season ended in May and then he contributed in the world cup. So it was 2 months between Chelsea and the end of season where the goals dried up. He started this season slowly but so has most of the team. On top of that he obviously had his best form at number 10 and when he is moved away from there he scores less goals.

It's December, and we are talking about Jesse Lingard, not Eden Hazard, when he does not score, he barely contributes anything other than backward passing and pressing the goalkeeper. Never mind, let's agree to disagree on his contribution. And since you mention his World Cup performances which have nothing to do with United, Lukaku had a solid World Cup also.

I was just referring that when everyone is fit our best attackers should be given chance to establish themselves back in the team, because it would make us a better side.

Lingard over Sanchez any day
Lets give sanchez one more chance with this new manager because all thing equal its always sanchez>lingard.

Regardless its always good to know Lingard is a very good option especially during these times when we have a lot of games coming up.

Oh yea, neither did Lingard. The difference is that Lingard have actually had very good periods, many good games, and have scored a lot of goals for us unlike Sanchez. There is absolutely no reason why Sanchez should be regarded as one of our best attackers if Lingard is not. If anything, Sanchez should be lower than Lingard when ranking our attackers.

Agreed. It is no contest. In a United shirt, Lingard has been the better player by a significant margin.

He did? I must have missed them. In reality, Lingard has been poor, but Alexis has been terrible since he's been at United. One little detail though, Alexis has shown before that he can be among the best players in the league, that's why he was brought in. Ole should try and give him a chance to show that again, because ultimately if it works, a trio of Martial, Rashford/Lukaku and Alexis is our best chance of salvaging this season.

No doubt Sanchez is a better player than him. But the threat Lingard provide with his off the ball movements is a great weapon to have in the squad. He can be for us what Pedro was for Pep Barca, an average player with some world class qualities (his movements especially are amazing).

We have a good group of players with good backups. I think many players will surprise people.

Lingard is a victim of the typical modern fan's inability to judge a player without looking at stats.

When he's on form he makes a team function better.

You probably missed them, or you just don't want to admit it. Of course Sanchez was one of the best players in the league back then, but he has being a flop for us and it won't be outrageous to mention him in the same breath as Memphis, Schneiderlin and Falcao. It matters little what he did at other clubs if he is unable to do it here like he's proven so far - bit like Mourinho, and that is harsh on Mourinho. Lingard on the other hand has been and is one of our most reliable players and he is a fixture in our starting XI. I'd wager on him being vital in our push to salvage the season. Sanchez need to at least get into the team and have some good games before we can even put his name next to Lingard.

Lingard over Sanchez no doubt.
We should cut our losses and get rid of Sanchez in January along with a few others.

Lingard reliable? In what pal? Running and serving average to shit performances 12 games out of 15? Yeah he is pretty consistent in being average for the majority of his career up til now. Him being a fixture in our starting XI speaks volumes why we are so far behind the top teams in the league.

Sanchez has been shit no doubt, but if he gets back to his old self we might have a chance, with Lingard in our front 3 you can bet we ain’t going far.

Like lingard or not, but if we want to play a high pressing game, he is one of the best players for that.
Will make it hard to squeeze in Material, Rashford, Sanchez, Pogba and him in the same lineup, but he is very suited for IT.

Whether someone likes him more than some or not, if we are to match forces with the likes of City and Liverpool, we need better footballers than Lingard. Simple as. We can’t have a player in the front 3 that specializes in running and pressing.

He is also pretty good at scoring. That's important for football, right?

Of course, but how many are there?
I can't see Martial doing such a good job defensively, even if he is a better attacker.
We need a good mix of flair players and hard workers.

Pretty good at scoring? Previous to this last 4 goals, he scored 2 PL goals in the calendar year. If that's pretty good at scoring for you than fine.

EDIT: And then you factor that 2 of those goals were in games where he was appalling in about everything. Worst player against Liverpool and one of the worst against Arsenal.

Some on here are so fast to brand other posters as haters, when in reality some fans like you overrate everything he does, 1 game against Cardif and some come here claiming his 15 previous games being absolutely shit, didn't exist.

How many are there? Is this a joke? There are many better attackers than Lingard, and the best of them should be playing for Manchester United.

Pretty good job defensively? You mean like against Liverpool? Yeah that was a fine example of his defensive "contribution".

Yes, he's been reliable. Since Lingard's first game in his first full season here, he's made the fourth most appearances of any of our outfield players. He has been an indispensable cog in a team that have reached four cup finals in that period, winning three trophies, two of which he scored in the finals including an extra time winner in one of them - I guess you missed those?
I'd say we were doing very well with Lingard in the XI last season until the supposed 'one of the best players in the league' turned up and ended up completely disrupting the team. I'd also say that we all know the main reason why we are currently behind the top teams too, and that reason is a lot like Sanchez - Living on past glories, with everything based on ifs and buts.
Lingard has been good for us, not always great, but reliable, with a lot of good performances and also goals in the big games.
I'd say he's earned his place and deserves some appreciation.

Jesus Christ the standards are so low for you. Indispensable cog in a team that struggles to score 60 goals a season, winning the Micky Mouse cups while our rivals have been winning league titles and reaching the CL final. I've enjoyed every bits of those trophies, but clinging on those honors and boasting like we've been some fecking site to behold is cringeworthy. We've been a laughing stock for over 5 years now, struggling the finish top 4 and being embarrassed in Europe.

I'd say we were doing very well with Lingard in the XI last season until the supposed 'one of the best players in the league' turned up and ended up completely disrupting the team. This part is comedy gold. Yeah Alexis introduction into the team disrupted our season, but very little to do with Lingard, and pretty much with our best player up till then in Martial. Lingard's golden patch ended pretty much before Alexis came. The reason why we are currently behind top teams is a combination of many things, not solely on big transfers not working out like Alexis, neither mediocre players like Lingard playing much more than they should. One thing is for sure, we won't reach another level with a player like Lingard playing as much as he has been in our front 3, bringing a world class talent like Alexis and taking the risk of him adapting, might do.

Lingard has earned his place in the squad, no doubt, but he should not be starting and playing as much as he has been.

Without stats a forward isn't a good option. It's such a vital position that you need to deliver in term of goals and assists, good movements are not enough to make that position your own. If he doesn't score or assist then he should be nowhere near this team. Chelsea fans want Willian out for the same reasons.

Some people simply dislike him for his manners or looks. I did initially too but I've come to respect his genuinity inspite of all hate.
