That is a number reflective of a player signing for over £100m, which is what you said I should use. Salah and co were not signed for £100m+.
Whatever the going rate is for a player in that bracket is what he'll get, why would he not? What's Dembele's wage?

Umm..Gareth Bale?
Tbf alot of Welsh people would be offended to be called English. I've met a lot of Welsh folk who dislike the English in general and I've seen videos of the Welsh squad cheering when England lost in the world cup so it wouldn't surprise me if some Welsh players would be more inclined to join a top foreign club than an top English club.

with him saying that he's pretty much gotten over being away from home because he's been away from home since year 7 in school, I very much doubt he'd be "homesick", at least not to a point of refusing a move, especially when, like I said, Manchester is only 2 and a half hours away from London. I'm sure he missed family and friends, but its not a big deal, I mean, the guy went to Germany for his chance.

I think the "misses London" thing is/was much like the "signing for Spurs" thing. Just a bunch of fans playing ITK and posting baseless stuff on forums. Wouldn't be surprised if it started with City fans trying to justify him not wanting to stay.
Well let's hope you're correct, as he'd be perfect #7 for us.

@Thiagoal good point, but money makes everything better, places like London when you're rich still trumps all.

I imagine the going rate will be what the highest earners in the game make, as that will be in the highest transfer fees around.

I’d say about £250k+ at least.

I'm not sure I follow your first paragraph. Sancho is a 'rising star' not a bona fide one, and he'll get the rising star rate for an attacker wherever it is he opts to go. If it's the £250k+ mark, it'll be that, if it's more, it'll be that - we're not done with the season yet, his value is still rising and if he is solidly consistent, or even better than now, all the way through to May, he'll be worth even more.

It's why the likes of Spurs and Liverpool are going to be doing exceptionally well each summer window they manage to hold on to the likes of Kane and Salah, who could be at least doubling their c. £200k by making the big money move to an elite club. If Sancho goes to an elite club, he'll be earning more than either of them and that's not because he's better or should be getting paid more than them, but because they themselves are being low-balled relative to what the market would actually pay them should they make the move.

That's the reason why I said unless Liverpool break their wage structure, to say, pay Sancho c. £250k or whatever whilst propping up Salah to the aforementioned amount he should be on, there's no way they can afford him unless he has them as his sole preference.

There will be very few clubs who can afford Sancho without it destabilising them for the reasons I listed.

I agree, this was my point. You said Liverpool would not be able to pay his wages at first. I said that Sancho won’t be earning the sort of wage reflective of his transfer fee. You said they were able to sign expensive players like Alisson and VDV as they were not established stars, and my point was they could similarly sign Sancho as his wage would not be reflective of his transfer fee. He is a ‘rising’ star, an 18 year old one at that.

My assertion is that he won’t be earning £250k, hence not destroying the wage structure.

Context is important for the first bolded. You don't seem to rate him very highly as he's the next one of the elite class of very young forwards after Mbappe and Dembele to be moving from a smaller club to an elite one, and look at the fees and wage both of those are on. Whether you rate him some way below Mbappe, it doesn't change the fact he's a youngster doing incredible things that will make all elite clubs sit up and take notice and be ready to outbid one another for him if that's a possibility. Madrid walked away from the Mbappe deal because they deemed it too much for an 'unproven' young talent, they won't do that again, imo and if Sancho continues at his current rate, plus lights up the CL, which Dortmund are still in, he can raise his profile and the need for elite clubs to see him in the 'must have' category even further.

Second bolded suggests you don't rate him even in the Dembele bracket, which is where we fundamentally disagree, as imo, whatever Dembele went for, Sancho should be the equal of for both his age and what he's doing on the exact same stage as Dembele did.

His age actually adds to his value, not takes away from it, which is why using 'rising' as if it's a negative against him doesn't make sense, really.

He's not coming to United, ever. Don't know why people are even entertaining the idea. Half of the problem this club has had over the past years is spending pointless hours on unrealistic targets, would hate to see us wasting our time with that continuing when we could be signing actual realistic targets.

I don't see why he would be an unrealistic target.

He is English, talented, we have the money and a gaping hole for him to fill. He will get money, game time with us. Now he might prefer Chelsea/London or other competition, but how is he an unrealistic target?

If you’re English, I don’t think the whole weather/London argument is as important.

I agree with the sentiment, however in this specific instance why do you have that feeling this is an impossible signing? It is not an impossible signing at all, it is rather realistic if you consider who his friends are and Manchester United's reputation in his home country, as well as our big wallet waiting to splash on a right wing.

Hm lets see. Besides the fact Dortmund preferred to sell Pulisic etc because they knew they had Sancho, how about the fact that Dortmund at the moment are a better team than us, they have a vastly more realistic chance of winning bigger trophies, he's pretty much guaranteed in their first team, added to the fact he's got absolutely no reason to move in this stage of his career. His contract runs until 2022 and everyone can see how good he is, there's absolutely no reason for Dortmund to sell him at anything other than an absolutely ludicrous fee akin to someone like Mbappe. Why? Because they hold all the cards, financially they aren't obligated after sales, and we aren't gonna spunk that amount of money on an 18 year old kid, no matter how good he is, it just isn't going to happen. It's a pipe dream, the time to get him was when he was leaving City's academy, or Watfords.

Him being English makes zero difference, he left England, i highly doubt he cares much about coming back, i'm sure he's already on decent money and he's getting plenty of game time with the highly likely Bundesliga champions this season. We're also going through a change, we aren't stable at all, no direction from up top, no permanent manager, no DoF..

Give me one instance that sais to you, yes, we are going to spend unreal amounts of money on this 18 year old kid for our right wing, in what world is this honestly going to happen, you say we have money, but do we? In the sense that, the money we have needs to help build the team, it aint all gonna be spent on one teenager. I'd gladly eat my words on this, but I don't think I ever will be, feels like people are dreaming that because we are Manchester United we can just snatch up players like Jadon Sancho whenever we want just because without looking at the realistic aspects of the deal. I mean Frenkie De Jong is going to Barca for a ridiculous amount, do you honestly believe Sancho is gonna go for any less, same with Dembele.

Whilst I agree the chances of him coming to us at the moment seem very fecking remote, and I personally haven’t seen even one decent article talking of an interest on our part.. Sancho would be the dream signing for me. I think for summer 2020 at that.

I can really envision him occupying the wings for us, dovetailing with Rashford and co. He just comes across to me as being in the mould of a United player in that he’s young and fearless with great decisive quality already, seems mentally tough, level headed, and of course he’s British. I like how United historically have scooped top homegrown talent.

Honestly Feck Alexis, the kid in me wants Sancho in that 7 shirt.

Let’s give Dortmund £100m + Sanchez on a free and we’ll still pay half his wages

I can dream.

You said he will never ever come to United, though. Not just this summer. You just can't rule that out on the basis of a self-loathing image of our club. I agree it may not be likely in the summer, but again if the kid wants to move then things change quickly. Why he would want that doesn't matter if he just wants to, which is a possibility.

These may just be two of the most uninformed, baffling posts I’ve ever seen on this forum.

And that is saying something.

I think there is a very good chance we will go for him. If we do, I believe we will get our man.

I am confident we can turn his head and Dortmund will get a Dembele fee. Maybe even more.

He’s going to be playing in the PL within two seasons IMO. As such, we are a very strong contender.

Manchester United is Manchester United it does not matter how "crap" they are no other club in the EPL has or will ever have as much pull as United not Liverpool not city not Chelsea not arsenal. United is only behind 2 names in world football and that is Real Madrid and Barcelona. So if United want you and are willing to spend the money you will go their 9x out of 10.

This thread keeps getting bump up for no reason. Is there even any credible link that we are interested? I doubt he wants to leave Germany now looking at how much he is enjoying his football there, probably not for the next two years at least imo

Just for the fun of asking -

What makes this player any better than the other Dortmund players that have worked wonders at their club but failed at other clubs?

The list is endless isnt it?

Dortmund have a club like no other that has the ability to allow players to play at their most comfortable level; something that is hardly seen at other clubs.

Hummels & Gotze at Bayern, Mkhitarayan & kagawa at United, Sokratis at Arsenal etc all look a shadow of their former selves. I expect Pulisic to be rubbish at Chelsea personnaly. Only Lewandowski has managed to step up a gear & even then it was not a player that needed much adapting to fit in to Bayern.

Thoughts? What makes Sancho different?

I guess it's because the talent is obvious. Players like Mkhi, Kagawa and Gotze had great stats but they did not have the outstanding ability that Sancho has. Everyone knew Dembele is top class and he'll do well even if he leaves Dortmund. I think the same thing applies for Sancho. Just my take.

A blind man could see Sancho's talent. Mikhi and Kagawa are both good players, but as you say were helped by Dortmund's system. Sancho has dribbling ability, passing and touch that would look good anywhere.

Considering he is a dortmund player; I'd only go for him at this stage to stop him moving to another PL team.

The price that he is currently rated at 100-150 mil; I'd rather see the guy develop at the La liga, Ligue 1 etc first before spending that money on a dortmund player.

If he does well at another club then go for it and spend that money.

However, if say this season Liverpool, chelsea and city want him - then go for it to save us the future hassle.

His 'another club' will be an elite one whom nobody will have a hope of buying him from unless they want to sell, which, if he lives up to his potential, they obviously won't. It's a one-shot from Dortmund or bust.

Sancho hasn’t suddenly become good at Dortmund, it was obvious for a while now he was very talented and destined to be a great player. All this fear of buying him because he’s looking good at that particular club is daft.

Jadon is a fantastic player, don't get me wrong, I find him similar to Isco. Isco himself is a fantastic player and I still think will prove his doubters wrong. But Isco is not a world beater. Two players I think will have better future than Sancho are CHO and Kai Havertz.

Yes man. He is the premier talent in England's golden generation. That generation has been talked up since they were in the u15s or at least in the u16s (unlike the other England generations that won international tournaments). Ask yourself how much Gomes was hyped up when he was 14 years old. He was seen as our biggest English talent since Ravel. Phil Foden was City's best English youth product in a long time. Ryan Sessegnon was at least Fulham's top 2 product along with Roberts. Hudson Odoi is currently Chelsea's best youth product in a long time. Everywhere around England, that age group has been a lot of club's best talent in some time or at least one of their best in some time.

Since Sancho was like 14 or 15, he was that age group's best talent along with Gomes and Foden. Sancho has kicked on since then (as have a lot from that age group), and he's just proving what everyone thought of him.

He's not some surprise talent that just sprung up all of a sudden. It's also not a surprise German clubs have been going after these kids. They've experienced first hand how good they are for their age group.

That age group of 1999-2000-2001, there are a lot of top English players. For me, they’re the best in the world in that age group. That age group [born in] 2000 in England, you could take every player. It’s unbelievable

Yep, you're not going to see him go 'develop' elsewhere.

If his current trajectory continues he's only going to end up at a Barce/Madrid/Bayern/PSG and if he still looks good there then you're talking Neymar money and that's if they even want to sell.

If you want in on Sancho, to take the 'risk', it would have to be from Dortmund. If he goes to a top elite club then he isn't moving unless he flops, they just wanted to sell, or an astronomical fee is offered.

He's sensational but I'm now just awaiting the day Real or Barca declare their interest and we're out of it.

Imo Greenwood is equally talented but i regard them as the two best youngsters in world football, that I've seen. Why not have both? They'll both be better than any attacker we have in the first team right now.
Greenwood haven't achieved anything yet as far as I'm concerned. Sancho
Martial - Rashford - Sancho as a front 3 is a very exciting prospect.
Opposition should shat themselves seeing that line up.

Thanks for the information.

I didn't know much about Sancho before Dortmund; so this all does make much more sense now.

He didn't leave on free transfer, he was sold for around 9-10 million. There is no buy back clause, just first refusal clause which is as good as not having any clause.

I think we'll sign him. I think he'll love yo play alongside Pogba, Lingard, Rashford etc. I bet he'd get on with them like a house on fire. Maybe not this summer but the one after.

This thread keeps getting bump up for no reason. Is there even any credible link that we are interested? I doubt he wants to leave Germany now looking at how much he is enjoying his football there, probably not for the next two years at least imo
It's not a transfer thread.

If we had the choice Dembele or Sancho? It's interesting Ole mentioned him the other day, if he stays I wouldn't be surprised if we tried to sign him.

Ole just mentioned him to highlight the path young players took, there is nothing in it. He mentioned him as he is sort of high profile player who left reserves for first team in foreign league.
