A serious look at Mauricio Pochettino

Yes that's my point. Spurs was a perfect stepping stone for talented players which is why we could attract players like Modric and Bale. This helped us, and now I would say we are no longer a stepping stone although we could still lose players to Barca/Madrid etc. Having a clear pathway or promise of first team football is an important factor to sign talented players, and we do to some degree still have that since Poch does trust young players. I think young talented players would think twice when they sign for Chelsea/City when they see the playing time Hudson-Odoi is getting and Sancho got. With United I would say the same under Mourinho, but with Ole things might change although there are players on the bench such as Sanchez, Lukaku and Mata to get ahead of if you're an attacking player.
Good post

So, as I said, when Spurs signed Eriksen he was not seen as "one of the biggest talents in Europe" … otherwise we could not have signed him for just £12m. Instead, at the age of 21, he was seen as talented young prospect.

This also means that, again contrary to the claims made, Eriksen is yet another player who has improved under Pochettino, who arrived at Spurs only a year later than Eriksen.
He was entering the last year of his contract, so Ajax were forced to sell. There were definitely plenty of rumours linking him with bigger clubs, and he’d won numerous awards in Holland. The transfer market has changed massively right now, Ajax would ask for a much higher fee.

He was 100% seen as one of the biggest talents in Europe for his age group. Pretty sure he came close to the golden boy award twice when he was at Ajax.

You condone that behaviour? Trying to intimidate a referee because you couldn't defend a corner? Let's see what the FA have to say about it shall we?
Yeah I condone it, he was pissed off and challenged the ref. That fine in my book. You talk like he punched him or something.

Challenging the ref is fine. Getting right up in his face and refusing to move along isn't. There'll definitely be some sort of punishment.

Challenged the ref?
Have you ever seen a manager punching a ref? If not this is up there with the worst.

He's still a cracking manager to be honest. What he's doing at Spurs is incredible all things considered. I'd have him at United in a heart beat if Ole didn't work out but he did! :D

Honestly I couldn't give a toss right now. If I was Poch I would have done exactly the same thing.

Same.

Mike Dean was a joke all game. Bardsley tackle was a disgrace, it was clearly never a corner and free kicks were being handed out like sweets to Burnley.

Don't blame Poch for lashing out at all. Not the right move logically speaking but understandably frustrated at how shite the officiating was.

Every time they get close to the top this happens. Safe to say his job with this Spurs team is done.

Can see why the Spurs lot on here are backing him in the heat of the moment right now, but once the dust settles and you watch it back you'll see it was way way out of order.

To be fair that confrontation still isn't up there with the way Keane,Butt,Beckham,Stam and Giggs acted towards that ref many moons ago.Now that was embarrassing.

Still, regarding the result, that was so like Tottenham. Get a great win against Dortmund and yet again follow it up with a real stinker of a result.

I'd back Pochettino if he had dropped his trousers and taken a shit on the pitch next to Dean.

It's like spurs get a nose bleed everytime there is a possibility to seize the initiative.

Poch has and continues to do a wonderful job but these are the exact moments which his critics use to point out that he's not quite in the top rung of managers.

I've seen another video. To me it looks like Dean says something that makes Pochettino lose the plot. It doesn't look good on Pochettino but let's not forget Dean is a bit of a twat.

Apparently he said to him that he won't get a United job and that pissed him of.

Dean is a goon of the highest order.
Poch will regret having a big go at him though, especially if he's banned.

Should receive a touchline ban for that, irrespective of his generally fine record. We can’t dictate that players show respect to referees if it’s going to be tolerated when managers square up to them and point fingers in their faces.

This is the same FA that hand out bans for swearing and kicking bottles, so I won’t hold my breath.

Can't see him seeing that new contract through, he's already built a name for himself, facing a serious lack of investment in player department which is only ever more emphasized with Eriksen's eminent departure and trophy itch is getting ever more intensive.

He blew it himself, they'd drawn level there was no need to throw everything at them with the change of formation.

That group of players on the pitch were more than capable of snatching a winner.

Very good.

And that wouldn't surprise me, seeing as it's Mike Dean.

One of the few rational posts .. well done.

Was a clear error by Pochettino to switch formation, from that moment on Burnley were cutting us open and clearly the more dangerous side. We were barely able to get out of our own half.

I can see why he went for that approach, but it was him hitting the panic button IMO.

To be completely honest I'm not surprised with today's result anyway, Burnley have shown huge improvements since Dyche figured out Hart couldn't organise an under 10's defence never mind a Premier League side.

A draw wasn't a great result but it was far better moral wise than a defeat, that wafer thin squad has now lost its momentum. I can't believe he changed the formation so drastically with so much of the game remaining, such a poor tactical decision which was exposed by the two fresh attacking players Burnley brought on with ten minutes to go.

The League has gone now, I'd be tempted to rest players for the Champions league games if I were Poch.
