it will get lifted. If not FIFA, CAS will. It's inevitable.

"The club acted in accordance with the relevant regulations and has already notified FIFA of its intention to appeal against the Disciplinary Committee’s decision and sanction. As a matter of procedural fairness and equality of treatment, and Swiss law, the Club’s right to an appeal process must be afforded, before any irremediable sanction takes effect.

So far as the Club is aware, in all previous cases where a registration ban has been imposed by FIFA, a decision has also been made to suspend the sanction until the appeal process has been completed. In this case, Chelsea considers that it is being treated inconsistently in comparison with other European clubs." CAS are lifing that, how can they possibly not?

The bolded part is literally the money shot.

Some people claim FIFA have broken the Swiss Law. They've set a precedent by allowing Madrid and Barca to register whilst an appeal is heard, any attempt to suddenly change the rules because it isn't one of their "golden boys" will get thrown out.

IIRC i think it was CAS which lifted Atletico's ban
It really depends on this:

However, a FIFAinsider said: 'The Spanish clubs were allowed to appeal because the statutes about transferring minors were relatively new.

'Now they are established and confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

'It may be the appeal committee thinks the previous cases have established the legitimacy of the statutes that Chelsea have been found guilty of breaking.'

It could do. But if Swiss Law says an appeal must be allowed before any sanction takes effect, then how can you go against it?
Whatever your individual rules may be, law is law. I still have no doubt whatsoever that CAS will now lift it. I any of our breaches were happening aroudn the time Barca's did for example, then the "statutes being new" applies to us too.

I think FIFA have made a rod for their own back, and set a precedent. Otherwise, what is the point in that particular Swiss Law if FIFA will just ignore it

It really depends on this:
Further to this, apparently the particular rule has been in place since 08/09, so that excuse is nonsense. The Spanish clubs committed their breaches after that date. The main point is a sanction is not full and final whilst an appeal takes place as I said re. Swiss Law. (You can't interpret your own rule in different ways.) Otherwise, if we then win the appeal via CAS, we can claim compensation from FIFA for wrongdoing during the appeal process.

The Swiss law and the Barca and Madrid scenario, will be a lawyers field day. And especially if the rule was brought in in 08/09, there is literally no way FIFA can make an excuse for it*

(*lifting one ban but not the other)

Right decision to enforce the ban from FIFA. Makes a complete mockery of any punishment just being able to appeal it and sign players anyway. Would be fair enough if the clubs genuinely thought they would win the appeals but they all know they'll lose them.

Same case could've been said for Zlatan and Pogba.
One has been looking for his next pay cheque for years and the other is an ex-Utd youth, who frankly cares more about Utd than winning the league/CL.

Don't think Sancho or Delight fall under either of the above categories.

If you pay someone enough they will go anywhere. Mkhitaryan left Dortmund kicking and screaming to come to us to play EL because we were offering him more money than anyone else .

Not surprised. We have plenty of players in the squad, on loan and have spent big money in the last few windows.

Only player to lose who would be annoying is Kovacic. Can't find a clear answer if we can keep him registered with us if RM let us extend the loan? Doesn't seem clear. Then again it would be good to give RLC, Ampadu, Mount and others game time.

Or because United is a much bigger club than Dortmund.

Chelsea appealed quickly, and there's (hopefully) plenty of time to process the appeal, deny it and uphold the ban before the summer window starts.

Would that mean they would not be able to sign Kovacic from Madrid?

Hazard will get an exception I think, if RM offer enough. I doubt anyone else will be leaving though. We also have Pulisic coming from loan to replace him in the squad.

Only annoying bit of this is potentially losing Kovacic. Maybe he can get an exception as already plays for us, not sure if possible though. We do have a lot of midfielders and would be good to give Ampadu game time, not massive issue.

What about CHO? I'm assuming players in last year of contract will be sold instead of losing them for nothing.

Nope, we'll hold on and hope they sign again, take the £30m risk according to what I've read. There was another article a few weeks ago, suggesting what Christensen seems to have confirmed. No one under contract in our first team plans will be allowed to leave, apart from Hazard if the offer from RM is right.

Feet up at home.
Sorry if this has been asked, but could they sign players on loan or no signings at all - permanent & loan included?
I think the wording is that they are not allowed to actually register any new players.

This might not be worst thing ever for them, being forced to give chances to those from academy instead of having 532 players on loan.

Cheers The Cat and Damo. Ouch. That'll hurt them, especially considering Hazard and CHO's contract situations. Both with a year left at the end of this season iirc?
They prepared for the departure of Hazard/the incoming transfer ban by signing Pulisic a few months ago. I imagine they'll sell him for the 100M but keep hold of CHO and let him go on a free at the end of his contract.

Yeah, or try and lure him into a nice contract over the course of the next season - especially if he's going to be given minutes/performs well.

I'm not sure what the contract situation of the rest of their squad is, but I'd have guessed that they wanted to sign a couple more players.

Well, there's nothing to appeal if the process was carried out correctly. It's not as easy as that. They'd have to show there was a flaw in the application. Having handed and handled those bans a few times now, UEFA ought to know what they're doing.

Always nice witnessing a rival's misfortune. Hope City are next in the firing line.

That doesn't make sense. Why can't they appeal to CAS?
They can but AFAIK FIFA implemented some rule changes in recent years so that even if you appeal, transfer ban still stays during the process. It's in order to stop clubs exploiting it.

Expiring 2019
Robert Green
Willy Caballero
Gary Cahill
David Luiz
Olivier Giroud

Loans end 2019
Gonzalo Higuain (option to buy)
Mateo Kovacic

My guess is Cahill will leave on a free and Kovacic will return to Real Madrid to be sold to someone else, but they'll work on extending the contracts of the others (they might let Green go and have one of their academy keepers as third choice instead). Giroud might be let go of if they're not selling Morata.

Expiring 2020
Eden Hazard
Willian
Pedro
Callum Hudson-Odoi
Marco van Ginkel

Bit awkward that all of their wingers will have an expiring contract. I imagine Willian or Pedro would sign up again with little issue, and van Ginkel will either leave on a free or be sold this summer.

Loaned out player contracts

Expiring 2019

Eduardo
Todd Kane

Expiring 2020
Kenneth Omeruo
Michael Hector
Abdul Rahman
Kenedy
Nathan

I imagine they'll try to sell the 2020 lot. Nobody worth keeping.

Will be very likely, of course they're lining up Saul and other players already. If it's after this summer window they will be prepared and won't need to sign any more players anyway.

I'd forgotten about Morata... surely they won't bring him back? Must be some human rights issue.

They won't let him in the country. Issues with the authorities. Been that way for a while. The whole Russina thing. Frayed relationship.
That was ages ago, I thought they sorted it all out? Can't still be going on surely
