Terrible decision making the whole match... except when he provoked a penalty and could be even red for that.

Looking over my shoulder.
Before the match, the commentators were talking about how Zabaleta would struggle due to Martial's pace. Not once did Martial try to outpace him, and I'm not sure he dribbled Zabaleta once. A 39 year old Giggs was consistently more threatening down the left wing.

Mourinho was 100% right about this guy. He's no better, if not worse, than he was when he first arrived. I would say get rid, but we have much worse players we need to get rid of (Sanchez, Lingard, Mata, arguably Lukaku), so he will stay.

We have ruined his career at United by removing his strikers ability & playing him as a makeshift winger.

Shame.
Yeah, it's never his fault.

He can't be relied on, every time we are linked with a left winger you get people crying that we have Martial and Sanchez. One is shite now and the other is shite almost as much as he's good. Need competition out there from someone that's going to deliver at least semi consistently and who's bottom level isn't woeful.

I always tried to convince myself that he would be a world beater but not anymore, i just watch the sanes sterlings improving all the time, and he's probably getting even worse, there's something about his attitude that can't stand, he just seems to be a lazy player like ozil but at least ozil manage to get decent numbers

That's true. He did impact the game.

He was terrible in general though. I mean, just awful.

In that LVG season he would have destroyed today's zabaleta. I've no idea where his dribbling has disappeared.

Here, there, everywhere...
He needs to start showing up consistently for games. Only 5-6 games a season isn't going to cut it.

Short passing, anticipation (should have been in the box for Marcus' shot), movement - are all dire. Hasn't improved yet. Is there a hope that it'll improve in the future? I am not sure.

I'll make a prediction - he'll be playing at a mid-table/upper mid-table club in a couple of seasons. Whether that's with us (meaning if we remain in our current predicament) or somewhere else remains to be seen.

Heh. Remember when evil Sanchez was stopping golden boy, Martial, from tearing teams apart down our left flank? Funny.

He needs a fecking slap. Been so poor for weeks.
Several slaps would be more appropriate. I don't really care about workrate or how many meters he ran but the lack of intensity in key moments is infuriating and it's the thing that will prevent him from reaching the next level.

Even then he took far too long on the ball. He should have just finished the chance.
Agreed. He wouldn't finish that chance 100%. Feels like today we could only finish from penalties.

How much terrible preparations must went, if technical player like Martial can't make one single good pass throughout 20 or 30 minutes.

That is the key point. I have seen some players who are not chasing the ball, but at key moments just come to life and show their quality.

I think this is why he is not starting, the guy needs to wake up. He also needs to add to his game, right now he is just stagnating.

Lacks intensity in key moments is just so accurate as description goes.

Sanchez and Mourinho holding him back. Next it will be he needs to play as a striker, then it will be that he needs better players around him. Better players won't improve his inability to find team mates 5 yards away.

Yes I think sums up what he needs to improve the most. In fact he used to be very good in this regard. He would come alive in the final third arms has that extra bit of composure. Needs to rediscover that.

Poor performance today, he's obviously lacking in form and confidence. Still, he created both situations for our goals, with passing and movement. Needs either a run of games, or the season to be over and a regroup.

It's infuriating see him jog when other players are busting a gut to get into attacking position. You look for where he is at and he is just standing there on the left outside the box away from all the actions

Typical of you to blame anyone but Martial for his shite performances.
I blame him all the way.

But I never saw him as a winger. He needs time as a striker and if he fails there then sell him.

Iv got nothing about him being sold - as long as we give him atleast a half a season to play as a striker again; constantly.

Sell him in January if Ole does that and he fails.

A frustrating performance. Managed to pass the ball to a West Ham player several times. In no hurry to get back after losing possession.

Won the 2nd penalty so that's something.

Not sure what he was doing after Lingard's nicely weighted through-ball at the start of the 2nd half.

Needs to get his act together.

His movement is dire and his short passing is awful. These are long-standing issues and I don’t think the upsides in his game (dribbling and finishing) make up for them. I also don’t think he’ll grow out of these flaws. He worries me.
He wants the ball at his feet everytime, and just refuses to run into space when it is obvious. Almost seems too lazy to make those runs, as they can go unrewarded.

This is why I've never got the fans who would harp on and on (and on and on) about Martial being different under another manager.
"Well, you put Martial in a City/Liverpool team and he'll be amazing" No,he wont.
Do you know why ? because he lacks the mentality.

Martial would be a world beater under Guardiola because he doesn't let you bang your missus before games (or your mistress).

Certainly not in form at the moment. But he should start each game here on in to build his confidence.

Oh yes. For playing him as a striker but not the right kind of striker. He needs to play as a false 9 LF with two number 10's, a pacey RF, a voodoo priest on the sidelines and a stable of world class players both on the pitch and on the bench to get the best from him. Ole's fault for not doing exactly what's needed to get the best from one inconsistent forward. It's exactly what he needs too, you can tell he's a natural for all that despite never having played there before.

I have not seen such terrible attitude on the pitch in a long time. He kept giving away the ball trying to make simple 5-yard passes. Even for the penalty, he could have passed it to Rashford for an easy tap-in but he kept hogging the ball till the tackle came in.

The feck people mention JM and Sanchez now, Sanchez was thrash week in week out since he came in that period and Martial couldnt get a sniff regardless, or he was shafted on right, so Sanchez could stay on left. Then again not surprised by whom its coming from.

Done well for the penalty, done very little otherwise. Workrate poor, that's fine if you are delivering but he's not from wide areas. Really need him to pick it up again.
