Wasn't it you who asked me how many times I'd watched James, as you'd only seen clips? To say he's nothing but speed suggests you haven't seen much of him.
This is based on the posts ive seen on Swansea forums by Swansea fans who watch him week in week out, some that i've shared on this thread in case you've missed them

So you've posted over 30 times in a thread about a player you haven't watched yourself? Weird but fair enough.

Agree totally, I think it's a genius signing.

Fans are obsessed with comparisons, but it doesn't really matter what or where Ronaldo, Pele, Bale, Zaha etc had done anything by whatever age.

Football doesn't work like that. Each player is an individual, and who is to say he won't end up being a smarter buy than someone like Sancho for 8 or 9 times the price!
Talk about jumping the gun. Can you see into the future? We won't know that until he kicks a ball a few times in a red shirt. It could end up being a masterstroke or a colossal disaster

Haha, maybe a little strong, but very little risk.

Fergie went through a period of signing random players seemingly based on physical attributes, and hoping to make them into footballers, like Bebe, Dong, Diouf etc. This guy looks more of a player and one to build on.
He'll be hungry too, which is just what we need.

Zaha dominated the Championship in a way this kid did not.
Doesn't really mean anything to be honest. Completely different players and all players develop differently.

Zaha deserved more of a chance - a chance James will hopefully get if he comes in.

To make shy of 40 posts about a player you've never watched, whilst also describing what he's like as a player is a little bit funny.

Very little risk indeed from the financial side but it will be a bigger risk if he's expected to jump in the starting 11 and make an immediate impact. I just hope the club still plans on signing an accomplished winger as well

At 15m it will never be seen as a colossal disaster.

Low risk, high reward.

I believe this is exactly the type of signing we need to make...a young, fast, hungry winger that can take us from the dizzying heights of 6th to 6th.

Bring it on.

Im making educated guesses based on the clips ive seen and what people who watch him have to say. I'll post as much as I want in this thread, thanks.

Yes, he's got to be one of 5-6 signings, with bigger/more accomplished players who will take the heat by being immediate starters.
We'd be fools to put too much pressure on him by putting him straight in.

But I dare say we'd all prefer a mint condition keen young'un on sensible money, over a declining top 5 or so wages in Europe Sanchez as a bench option.

If the fans who watch him are as negative as our fans on all our players, I wouldn't take it as gospel!
I'd go off what you see when he plays for us.

The clips I've seen he looks next to unstoppable.

Not really educated if you haven't seen him play.
I'm not saying you can't post in the thread, just don't get defensive when someone who has seen him play calls your knowledge of James as a player into question.

Fergie was signing from a position of strength, as we had quality players so could afford to take punts. That's definitely not the case right now. We need to make every signing count this summer, so scrutinising players we're linked with seems totally reasonable to me.

Not sure Chelsea / Spurs / Arsenal are that far away from us TBH. Couple of results our way would've done it for us this season. Whoever has the better transfer window this season will get top four next year. We're still miles away from City and Pool though.

Probably!

Dortmund have repeatedly said they’re not selling yet some Caf posters still going on about it like it’s a realistic option
Have you ever known a team that openly state they're selling one of their top talents, whilst in a title race? Of course they'll say he's not for sale, it doesn't mean he's not though, money talks.

Yep, that is a good point. But I always prefer it when our interest is totally secret and we just pounce early doors like this, rather than the long sagas.
Those long sagas usually end in disappointment.

If we suddenly hear we're close to buying someone like Wan Bissaka, I'll start thinking there IS an actual sensible plan in the background this year.

Except there's no guarantee of high rewards even with the low risk. Colossal disaster maybe is too much, but if he's thrown into the starting 11 and flops he'll be turned on quickly on here and thoughts on his signing will be revised. Players like Bebe and Obertan represented smaller risks because they were eased into the team but it was evident early on that they wouldn't make it. My fear is this player is almost 22, he's going to be given more responsibility so it will be hit or miss and no in between here because that's how it goes.

Believe it when he signs? His agent and the greedy American owners at Swansea see a asset they can get big bucks for, they pulled the plug on him going to Leeds in January because they new they would get more money for him.

£15 million is tops for him ok put some add one but not millions on millions.

He's a prospect lightning quick good on ball tidy finisher, but there's a huge difference to premier league than Championship. And this was his break through season a Swansea. I'd still get him for the money even if he doesn't make it at the level required a sell on fee would easy get £10 million .

He'll be another Dalot, I wouldn't mind signing him under other circumstances but seeing the squad we have and the funds we need to get the players that can turn this around it seems a waste to expend 15M on this fella.

I've watched lots of videos on him since we were linked and all I see is speed, no guile or skill or craft, just a blunt instrument, and he isn't that young that you'd say he was a raw kid, he's as old as Rashford who is as frustrating as feck and has been playing at a higher level for his whole career. This is the kind of punt I could get behind if we were in City or Liverpool's position, but we are so far behind and this kind of buy will do absolutely nothing to bridge the gap, I'd be surprised if he was good enough to start for any team aiming for the top 7 right now.

I doubt if he'll be rushed at all. I'd expect him to be be a squad player at first and I'd be very surprised if we don't sign another winger. Why do you randomly assume a young kid from Swansea will be given an important role straight away?

His age and profile seems ideal for a squad player. Cheap, hungry to improve, won't sulk if he doesn't start that many games, fast enough to be a weapon from the bench in games and can play on both wings. My ideal squad next season would have around 15 senior players followed by a group of hungry young players with a point to prove. His profile fits that approach well.

He will come in, provide different dimention and competition, is direct, fast and counter attacking with an eye for a cross. Cheap in current market. At 15 it's a no brainer.

Agree, what happened when these legends weren't around to be compared to there was no comparisons. Will be very happy to see him come in, have thought about it when he ran the length of the pitch and scored that goal.

Many wingers have made a career of being faster than their fullback and putting in crosses.

His dribbling looks fine especially for the speed he runs at. I don’t expect him to be an immediate starter either, probably an impact sub / rotation at first.

Kanchelskis was not a very technical player - he was just so fast he was unstoppable. He simply kicked the ball past the player, and ran.

He was my favourite player back in the day, loved watching him. He could finish too!

No reason James couldn’t become a similar player.

Just a question - is this dimension, which I think we do have as is in Rashford, any less barbaric than throwing on Fellaini ever was?

Always thought it a little odd to say one was wrong or better versus the other.

Yeah, I totally agree about that. Making quick, decisive moves in the market would make us look like we have a clue. Which would be a refreshing change.

I don’t get our fans sometimes....were crying out for some more talented hungry youngsters, and if they have pace to burn then great. Nothing strikes fear into defenders more then knowing your man can strip you for fun. About time we got some brutal pace into the lineup.
