Must. Not. Get. Sucked. In.

I mean if we manage to pull it off it’d be my inner muppet’s dream come true. Would be most amazing signing since RvP. Pogba was brilliant but this would top it. The kid is just special.

I don’t understand what’s wrong with paying a 19 year old a fortune? Why does age come into an equation? It’s supply and demand. And he’s in demand as any club in the world would like him so of course he’d receive a wage thats worthy of his potential and ability. He looks like a generational talent and a captain of Ajax at age 19.

That’s what I said. We are shit now and run like shit. So, you think we are a great club now?

It doesn’t mean I don’t support this club, I will call us what state we’re in. At least I am a supporter who acknowledges our issues instead of being in denial.
Shit team. Yes.
Being run badly. Yes.
Shit club. No. We're one of the greatest clubs in history.

The problem is that everyone will start demanding his wages. Rashford is the main one I'm thinking of, and perhaps Greenwood a couple of years down the line. Even this summer if we start making moves for Pepe/Sancho, they'll ask for ridiculous wages.

I would love him here, but that's what I'm afraid of.

You’re right. I was a bit harsh. We are not a shit club. We are in a bad state. If we don’t get better at running this club, the past won’t matter.

So what if he comes here because we overpaid. For most players this is their job, they are going to go where they are paid the most. Over time if we are successful, he will develop that loyalty and will want to stay here.
This idealizations fans have that players should identify with the club history isn't the norm for most players. That is built over time. City, most of the squad isn't there for history. And they are winning.
What matters is players earn their wages regardless of the reasons of moving to club.

Again, it’s supply and demand. Rashford is nowhere near the level of talent. He can demand all he wants if he’s deluded. He’ll then be free to leave and ask for astronomical wages somewhere else. He’s not going to get them.

You guys are going on as if other clubs aren’t offering competitive/crazy wages. As if players at Barca get paid with a leaflet that says “mes que un club” or something

He would, he's one of the better u21 forwards, and free signings usually get paid bucketloads. Look at Ramsey supposedly earning 400k a week at Juve.

Fair enough.

But isn't that what we're trying to do by trying to assemble a team that can compete at the highest level?
I was pointing out that these players are coming here for money and not for our club.

If you think hiring a bunch of mercenaries will help our cause, then, ok.

Im not sure Rashford is currently good enough to start for us let alone Barca, City, Real, Munich, Juve etc. He’s never ever going to be offered anything close to those wages being a bench player. They’d laugh his agent out of the meeting.

That's the nature of the beast these days I'm afraid. Unless you can find another class of 92 or a bunch of world class English, Scottish and Irish players that we can cherry pick.

These players were paid handsomely.

I'm excited, but man those wages.

I know we can afford it, but its exactly because we can afford it that everyone is taking the piss when it comes to contract renewals. We need to control it.

No doubt he is once in a generation talent, might be the best CB in modern football if he keep this up.
I really, really hope we get him. It would be a coup.

Pogba is probably on around 300k so I'd doubt he's offered 350k wage at United.

We’re the richest club in the world and Ed is always banging on about how we can do things financially that other clubs can only dream of so let’s pay Raiola what he wants and offer De Ligt more than anyone else so we get it done.

At £70 million for a long term investment on one of the top 10 centre backs in the world who’ll only get better and make a huge profit on if or when he does go to Barca or Real down the line once he becomes the best defender in the world we’d be crazy not to push it through, if we’re going to stall on things like agents deals and paying more than anyone else then the whole ‘richest club in the world’ thing needs to stop.

Signing De Ligt and Wan-Bissaka drastically improves our defence and with the ages of those two plus Tuanzebe, Lindelof, Shaw, Dalot and Laird we could realistically be set up in defence for the next decade. Move on Bailly, Rojo, Jones, Valencia and Darmian and let’s start thinking like the huge club we’re meant to be.

If we get him I bet you any money we’ll have English papers claiming how the deal happened. Yet not a peep from them now. I wonder why?

Yep Barca pay the biggest wages.

De Jong is on 300k reportedly and Barca paid that to beat City and PSG. What happened to the sporting attraction Balague?

I don’t understand why he would come to us unless it’s either money-driven or we have convinced him of the project going forward. If he is a young player with big ambitions, coming here would be the last thing he should do.
Ah how about the fact that Ole’s at the wheel ?

Ajax fan here (and probably first and last post here) and with direct sources to Mino's family pizzeria in Haarlem, The Netherlands

Your deal is done, congrats. 80m euro's + bonus. What really caused de Ligt camp to be "upset" is that Frenkie is being paid 16m euro's by Barca (50% of which Nike is paying) and that de Ligt was getting WAY less then Frenkie (as Nike wasn't paying de Ligt).

Overmars is btw working on getting Chong & TFM but thats besides the point.

Good luck.

best,
S.
What are the pizza’s like ? I bet they’re really expensive.

I don't understand this thing about buying players who want to play for the shirt (Unless he's a fan). IMO its more about the mentality of a player rather than him giving his all for a certain team. I am sure we have players in our current team who love the club but they simply don't the mentality to leave it all on the ground and it'll be the same if they were in a different club next season.

Ronaldo,Keane,Vidic,Rio etc didn't just perform for the love of the club but they wanted to be the best/win stuff and they would have done the same if they were at other clubs. How many of the city players "play for the shirt"? I bet most didn't even know who they were.

He's still recovering from the shock of the sacking of his darling Mourinho.
Awe...don’t be so bitter about the break up. I sincerely urge you to move on from Jose. It won’t bring him back no matter how many fans you call Jose fan boy. If you can’t move on, you’re deep down a Jose fan boy. Just admit it.

As good a prospect as De Ligt is, I am not sure that being the only club that will pay that fat twat Raiola what he wants is a good long term policy for you.

Normally I would agree with you - but in the position we have managed to get ourselves into, we need a couple of really big signings if we hope to persuade DDG and Pogba to stay. Not to mention get a few others in.
