Why then are there pundits, sat pitchside today, saying something doesn’t feel right about this? That it is affecting the atmosphere.
Most pundits on TV are 65 years old and waste our time talking about how it was better in their days when the ball was a brick.
We will see how long football would last without the people going to games.
Are you a match goer ? All decisions took between 30s and 2min and that's longer than it should. But are you saying people will stop going to games because they cannot take the risk of waiting around 30s at some point in the game to get the correct decision ? Please.

VAR is not good until it affect the team we support then we need VAR. really crazy reactions here. VAR is here to stay, every new change is difficult to accept at first.
In time, we'll get used to it and adapt to it. Its not use complaining.
Nothing ever changes unless somebody complains about it. VAR was introduced because people were complaining. The only way to change it is to complain about it.

It almost makes having a referee pointless. How can we judge who is the best referee in the business for example ? literally everything is done by VAR now, they are all afraid of making a call by themselves.

I’m saying it takes a lot of fun out of the experience and that will definitely impact on people going to games.

People act like live football viewing figures are through the roof. They’re not. City can’t sell out. We have games with smatterings of empty seats. This is just another way match going fans will have to have a lesser experience.

Also, before the referees needed to be in match-shape like players, now they don't need to run to make a penalty call or a freekick call...

VAR is useless, it's fun for refs to feck up a game, it keeps the soul of it alive and the debate afterwards for days and days.

The penalty wasn't retaken because Fabianski was off his line. It was retaken because Rice encroached.

I think the argument is that without encroachment the penalty taker is odds on to get to any ball rebounding off the keeper while the keeper is on the ground. Meaning that they will be able to roll the ball into an empty net.
And even if Rice hadn’t encroached, Fabianski broke the rules by going off the line.

I take your second point but even then, that only applies to those situations where the ball is parried straight out. Most of the time (I’m guessing, considering angle shot is taken at and keeper’s direction of movement) the ball will be parried wide of the goal.

Is that an urging concern of yours ?

- Right lads, live football viewing figures are not good, anybody know why ?
- It costs around 500 pounds a month to follow your team, sir.
- Don't be stupid Johnson, it's got to be this damn VAR ! :o

Why would you want to know who the best referee is? This is exactly what the lack of VAR has lead to: a generation of self-endorsing celebrity referees who think they're bigger than the game. They thrive off the attention.

The whole purpose of a referee is to be anonymous and let the game flow. Far too often we've seen the likes of Atkinson, Dean, Oliver and Moss feck shit up and walk around smugly with nobody to answer to. At least this way they'll be making fewer feck ups.

Because they are paid to create controversy and excitement. If they all agree VAR is an improvement - there is no debate, no big news. Most of them are acting out their emotions. It's all b..sh..t

What a luddite mentality. They work with the tools they have to enhance their role.

That’s what I’m saying. The price of the game is outrageous, atmosphere is dwindling, oil rich clubs rule the league.... this is just another way the experience is lessened. No one is gonna suddenly say “I’m not going because of VAR” but it they feel the sense of irritation of waiting to celebrate a goal or waiting two minutes for a check then yes, it’ll impact on people’s experience and make them less likely to go. I’m already close to jacking it in, this annoys me more so.

7 pages and it's only 16:16 on a Saturday!

VAR is great! It's stokes discussion and makes the game so much more exciting.

Thanks @RedFish for converting me to loving VAR.

I wasn't sure if it would be a good thing, but this thread proves how much more interesting it makes debates about matches.

VAR made several correct decisions in the City game but some people don't like VAR so this prompted irritation.

Or on the flip side, it'll get annoying discussing VAR for years on end. Have a sneaky feeling I'm going to be sick of hearing VAR this and VAR that.

people had been complaining for years of injustice and that's why VAR was slowly introduced. Now that VAR is couple of games old and already complains of throw it out. VAR is in infancy at the moment, at least give it some time to mature.

Because it's a difficult job, one that requires physical perfection and alot of study, and I just want to see who does it better, kinda liked Howard Webb in his prime.

But I do understand your point, some of them aren't commited to the game.

The only valid criticism of VAR is the length of the pauses it creates. The issue comes down to whether you can stomach waiting 15 seconds after about a third of big incidents.

I can.

Nothing's the way it used to be when I was young. Youngsters have no respect for their elders anymore. I miss the old days when men were men, and you could trust your neighbor.

Now fecking technology is ruining football too, with all the correct decisions. It's disgusting.
This but unironically.

Was VAR even needed for leagues? I understand cup competitions referee decisions can be important where knockouts are involved. But over a span of 38 league games incorrect referee decisions often even out.

Having said that I'm neither here or there for VAR, my motto is usually if it ain't broke don't fix it, but I guess we have to accept VAR is here now and we go with it!

But is it any wonder that younger people have lost faith in established institutions & authority in general?

It’s easy to be annoyed with VAR in the city game as it had no affect on the outcome.
Once it’s used to decide the points then it’ll be a totally different story, especially if it causes our big rivals to drop points, or us to gain the points.

How exactly do bad decisions even themselves out ? I'd like for someone to explain me this lunacy

They probably think that 'VAR' is a cryptic anagram of 'EU'.
