If that's the case we're doomed regardless, surely? How would a massive Tory majority in mid-October be turned to a small majority in mid-November?
If Boris fails to deliver Brexit on the 31st and is completely unable legally to deliver a hard Brexit.

What do you mean it has nothing to do with EU? You said yourself they don't wanna hire outside of EU (because it's easier to hire within EU).
mostly the hiring Manager does not want prefer a foreign face, is all.
So, mostly a recruiter ends up hiring Germans in Germany, Brits in the UK, Spaniards in Spain and white french people in France etc.

And every recruiter in the EU is familiar with such candidates (India, Pakistan, China, Bangladesh, Morocco etc.).
So, nothing to do with EU, just racial bias

By spliting vote to UKIP and LibDem?
UKIP has feck all, you mean TBP?

Any split to Lib Dems would manifest equally in October and November. I don't think there's any significant number of remainer Tories left who believe they'll get a deal before Oct 31st by voting Tory on Oct 15th. TBP perhaps, but if he fully endorses no-deal in his manifesto Farage has said many times he'll cooperate with them (probably stand aside?)

If Boris fails to deliver Brexit on the 31st and is completely unable legally to deliver a hard Brexit.
Maybe. Suspect logic though, he can very easily pin that on Remainers legally blocking him (which is true). And like I said above, it leaves him in position of power and in control of timetables and decisions over the crucial period, so he can try his shenanigans. Like refusing to go to Brussels and running the clock down, or standing down.

By mid November, the hard brexiteers would would have dumped the Tories for failing to deliver brexit.

Ken Clarke having the whip withdrawn is a bit sad.
Not according to my neighbour, he reckons it should have happened years ago, he hates Clarke with a vengeance. I think its left over from the time when Clarke was Chancellor and he put tax up on cigarettes, but not cigars, which apparently Clarke smoked at the time. I have lived next door to this neighbour (and his wife) for over ten years and never realised he was even a Tory, let alone how much he hates Clarke...he boozes down at the local Liberal Club, so thought he was one of Paddy's men!

You learn something everyday, takes all sorts I guess.

The usual unbias, snide remarks you’d expect from the political editor of a public ally funded, impartial organisation like the BBC.

Obviously loads of examples of her acting the same way towards Boris and the Tories though.

He’s such an uber-twat.

One of my best friends from university married an English girl and is living in London. He’s a hardcore vegetarian, Irish republican lefty. One of his wife’s best friends married Dominic Cummins and he was invited to the wedding. Complete with best man speech from Michael Gove. I’ll never know how he lasted the night without throwing a drink over someone.

Actually, I found this not to be true for Germany and NL. Getting a job there is actually way more accommodating than the UK. At least from an Americans perspective it's way easier to move to NL or Germany than the UK. NL even offers you a 30 percent tax break working in tech and Germany is always sponsoring visas for in demand work.

From an outsiders perspective, UK's job hiring process just seems inefficient in hiring the best talent. Actually the people interviewing me for positions in NL -- many were south American too.

Yeah. Cigars, beer, Hush-Puppies and Jazz were Clarke's thing. It is pretty nailed-on that you are going to make enemies when you're chancellor.

I have always liked the bloke though. And as I said before, I'm not a lefty but I also liked and admired Tony Benn.

I think it is possible to do that. Some don't.

There are three options -
Revoke A50 - ruled out
No Deal - ruled out
Ratify the WA - ruled out

Maybe a fourth option of living in limbo indefinitely.
Not with all those Brexit Party MEP's remaining in place in the EU Parliament and attempting to create havoc wherever possible, the Farage/Boris axis 'fifth column' writ large I suspect.

At the end of the day it has to be remain by revoking A50, or out with No deal... it cant be anything else.

Can’t speak for DE but I found when I was working in NL that it was a far more welcoming country and more diverse than the UK

Don't know what you are observing then
Perhaps Sky News political analyst commentating on Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi's demand of an apology from Boris for Boris's years of racism with "well that's an indication how nasty debate will become".

...

You are kidding yourself if you don't believe that you are working for a right wing media organisation.

It is an accurate picture. Being American in the EU Job market is way easier than being Asian citizen. But if you have experienced that why do you attribute that to the EU?
Also you have to compare that with German candidates that atm are sleepwalking into higher paid jobs.

Same here regarding Clarke and Benn. I actually wrote Benn a letter once towards the end of his life, and received a handwritten reply.

Which is similar to the experience of my sister in law, a Thai national. Oddly though she was educated in the UK, but it seemingly counts for nothing (she had to return to Thailand).

Like many non EU citizens living in the UK, she doesn't no how long she will be able to stay.

Which is why the majority of non EU migrants leave within 5 years.
Funny thing is some of my family voted to leave because that would mean non-eu immigration will be easier and house prices will fall. When me and my family explained the easier non-eu immigration bit to an anti-immigration leave voter his face melted like the Indiana Jones scene.
Even thought the UK hasn't left, immigration has become easier for non-eu doctors as EU doctors not coming here as much.

Yes, quite right I also like some politicians whose views I don't hold with. The trouble today however is its likely that your own friends don't forgive you/or argue with you, if you mention anyone they dislike, in any sort of positive tone.

Its always seemed childish to me, but I found it curbs any real conversation when having a pint, or ruins a game when playing cards!;)

Just listening to the BBC world news and they're interviewing a Leave voter who as you expect was furious.
It's amazing how within a couple of sentences one can argue that it didn't say leave with a deal on the ballot but also argue that we've not left unless we leave the CU, SM, EHJ etc

I'd prefer he'd get some comeuppance that was based on facts of him actually being an idiot!
Boris Johnson did make the letterbox and bank robbers comment, though. That's what people took issue with, and that's the statement that the Labour MP was explicitly making reference to.

Only he didn’t say that at all. He said
Governor Mark Carney told the Treasury Select Committee the bank now believes GDP will fall by 5.5% in the worst-case scenario following a no-deal Brexit, less than the 8% contraction it predicted last November.
So if we are only judging the impact of a no deal Brexit then the headline holds tight.

He then said:
The bank's revised assessment also says unemployment could increase by 7% and inflation may peak at 5.25% if the UK leaves the European Union without a deal.

Surely democracy depends on liking your opponents enough to be able to work with them and find common ground.
I always thought that the word democracy came from the Greek language and roughly translated meant 'mob rule'
Well we will certainly not get that! (PS sorry I didn't have a classical education so it may have lost something in the translation) :smirk:

If it was any decent person having such a rough first week at work, I'd be feeling sorry for them. But thankfully it's only Boris...

When people say this government is very right wing, if we ignore the no deal Brexit situation (which isn't inherently left or right), what's the logic behind this?

The policies announced this far e.g. increasing teachers salaries to £30k starting, reintroduction of Nurse/Midwife bursaries, extra investment in new schools, funding for hospital upgrades, broadband upgrades etc seems far less right wing than previous administrations (plus spend on police and prisons which is generally standard centre right).

This is from a Libertarian so definitely not a Johnson fan.

Attributing it to UK not EU. I feel UK is missing the boat with skilled workers while other EU countries like Germany NL and Sweden are getting talent in

They’re trying to buy an election. As soon as that is won, based on their track records you can expect a sell off of public services the likes of which we’ve never seen.

isn't that just bribery for a forthcoming election? Whether the spending actually happens is another thing.

Your question is evidence of why those announcements were made. They're pre-election policy announcements wait until you see the actual manifesto. As for brexit not being left or right that's ridiculous.
