Neither happy nor sad about this. Kinda meh news for me. I like him as a character and his performance has become good since last season, though I'm sure there's still a room for improvement for him.

I misread Lindelöf for Lingard and was surprised that no one was outraged in the comments

 I admire the optimism, but that's mad.
Let’s wait and see. I’m not saying they will be Rio and Vidic but actually the standards don’t need to be that high to go down as an excellent partnership.

I truly believe we will look back at the Maguire and Lindelof partnership as one of our best ever.
In my time watching United I've been lucky enough to see 3 top quality partnerships.

Bruce & Pallister
Vidic & Ferdinand
Jaap & Stam

We'll be lucky if Maguire & Lindelof come even close.

How can I take your opinion seriously with that username?
That’s fair enough, I also correctly called that Liverpool would have a great defence and had great potential fullbacks way ahead of the consensus, only time will tell whether I’m right again or not.

It wouldn't be Manchester United if we weren't rewarding mediocrity

Yeh agreed, it’s not easy to achieve that, but for the first time since Rio and Vida I feel like our CBs have the requisite talent to form a great partnership.

His current contract was valid until 2021, with plus one year option. This club is weird
Is it really that weird? I'd rather we sorted this shit out nice and early than start to let it run down.

Mate its a discussion forum, none of us know better than any of them, if we used that line of thinking we might as well shut this place down as we're all clueless.
Dont mind him, guff lord just roams around calling others cnuts and trying to sell his wisdom, which he has none.

This absolutely makes sense. From the reports he was one of the lowest paid members of our first team squad and as he is now a regular was deserving of a pay rise, especially in light of the interest from Barca. I know some fans will say what was the rush but it does seem that the main reason Ander screwed us over was because we did not negotiate with him when he was playing well a couple of seasons ago when he was clearly underpaid compared to others.

I want to see Axel push through and I agree we need to sign another good CB when the opportunity arises but we still need Victor as including Harry that would give us 4 good players in the position which is the bare minimum as City are now hopefully finding out to their cost. We can move forward with getting rid of Rojo and Jones and let Smalling make his switch to Roma permanent which to his credit he is very willing to do.

Good lad, nice to have someone who really wants to be here and succeed. Him and Maguire will make a good partnership and if not Axel can come boot the fecker out :)

I don’t really have time to go trawling through my post history but if you want to go ahead. I just distinctly remember being called a Liverpool fan for saying how good Klopp is and the potential that squad has. I’d rather wait and see if this latest prediction comes off, I think Lindelof and Maguire will form our best partnership since Rio and Vida by a mile .

Caf: Errr muh guurrd why didn't we tie down Herrera earlier? Absolute shambles.
Also Caf: Err muh guuurd why have we tied down Lindelof when he still has more than 2 years left on his deal? Absolute shambles.

Weird timing but alright, he's young and the caf tells me he's way better than Smalling.

Good news, he can be our 3rd choice centre back for years to come.

Disagree, it's about time we started signing players up to new contracts 2 years before they're about to expire

Though I guess with the one year option this one is 3 years... but still, i'm all for the club sorting contracts out earlier going forward.

I'm not sure he's that good - I think he only looked good in comparison to the dross around him. But we have much more pressing areas of the squad to address and far worse players than him, so it makes sense to keep him around.

If we continue to be solid it's not a priority.

It's not hard to beat the pairings since we had Rio and Vida as a partnership to be fair. We've been unable to have a suitably consistent pairing in the middle since.

Well thats exactly my point, the statement "one of our best ever partnerships" sounds insane but in reality it is achievable If Maguire and Lindelof play together for a couple of seasons consistently.

Weren't there rumours of barcelona being interested.
Convenient during renewal talks eh?

It's probably the right time to do it otherwise we end up over a barrel like De Gea. Hopefully it's not ridiculous money so that we can shift him later on because we'll want better than him to be competitive again.
