No where near good enough. Another shocking signing my mourinho. On what planet this lad is £50m+ I have no idea. Recruitment like this is the problem with the club not the manager

I wonder if he would improve with a better coach, I remember Sissoko was useless until Poch got his hands on him.

He still has time to save his United career. £50m for a functioning squad player is not ideal (he isn't that at the moment) but we could live with it.

Probably, we're not exactly a paragon of coaching excellence.

I liked early Fred and am more likely to defend him than not. I’m beginning to think there’s no way back for him now.

No way to sugar coat that, he was dire, it was like nobody bothered to tell him we weren't playing in red tonight.

Remember the hype around this guy thinking we'd really got one over on City and he was going to be our answer to Kante? That ship has sailed...
Is there anything he does well?

I think he is the worst player we have bought in the post SAF era. Rivals Sanchez for the worst deal ever made by the club. +50m for someone nowhere near good enough to be part of the squad.

In future we should steer clear of signing any players rumoured to be on City's wishlist. It's jinxed.

Can we really do any worse by giving younger players matches instead of Fred? I'd sell him now for 20m if anyone is mad enough to spend that on him.

Our entire scouting department needs to be replaced.

When is the last time we bought a player for a relatively low fee and he turned out to be a superb signing?

It's never happened in the post SAF era.

There can no longer be any doubt that after we steamed on for Sanchez when City wanted him this was Peps revenge. Scout the shittiest player he could find, leak his interest and then stand back and laugh as Ed backed up the brinks truck.

I don’t even remember the hype, all I knew was he was bang average for Donetsk, didn’t play that often for them but was in the Brazil team. Next thing boom woody is in, guessing he was told it would be a sponsor dream to have some Brazilian samba magic and was sold.

Daniel James thus far seems to be ticking the right boxes..

We do have some hot competition in recent years for expensive signings who completely failed us. Fred is definitely very competitive in this battle and right now he's edging towards the title.

You can see the passes he completes a lot of them are slow and clumsy and would get tackled more than not. Gives the ball away a lot while not actually trying to do anything risky. Too many passes have the recipient trying to salvage it.

I can see Pep maybe thinking he's a really rough diamond who could work more offensively.

50 million is pants ripping down stuff though for this Ukrainian league player.

The only hesitation I have is the club and management have let his time here go awry and for 50 million it's costly. He could be playing better for us but I wouldn't buy him anyway.

He needs to stop trying to pass with his right foot.

I admire his confidence but he tries first time passes and completely screws it up.

the issue is when he plays with Matic, he always ends up on the right side. With his back to goal he’s constantly turning to his right foot.

meh. He has flashes of good play and then some awful stuff too. Can’t really say much though as the whole team stinks right now.

I do not see what Ole sees when he says he is a really good player and will come good for us as I do not see any part of his game which he does well and it is beyond me how someone could recommend buying this player for anything north of 10-12mil.

He was terrible. Missing a lot of passes. I think that’s his level and he will never make it here. He has a good idea in his mind to play forward passes and always looking for a risky passes but he lacks of composure to execute it. I’ll probably only play him at home game not away. Away game where there are massive pressure & teams tend to do high press, he will cost us a lot with his panic playing style.

Another poor game from him. I'll reserve final judgment for the end of the season but it's not looking good.

Saying this as kind of a supporter of his but boy was he bad yesterday.
His only excuse is that our other midfielders are also utter garbage and atm this also includes Pogba.

Maybe Ole doesn’t have the stature or the pedigree to just send Fred to the reserves, after all the club made a substantial investment in Fred. He can’t just discard a £50m asset.

But Ole needs to make a decision. Fred should not be playing in our midfield at all, regardless of how bare our midfield contingent gets. He can’t play under pressure, he can’t pass, commits many unforced errors, has no composure, and completely destroys our build up play. So it would be best to play Fred whete he isn’t involved in our build up play at all. Maybe try him at RW?

He’s utter dross. Still can’t believe people argued with me on this thread thinking he was decent.

Yeah I give up. I was defending this guy all of last season but he just can't put it all together for some reason.

Him, Lingard and Mata are a completely pointless waste of space.

His barrier is mental.

Where did he play for Shaktar, was he a DM or a box to box player because he looks clueless at both positions for us.

He obviously has some talent but it just isn’t clicking at all. He needed to step up massively this season.

I think so too, which is a major problem. My issue with him is that he has shown that he can carry the ball well, he can pass well, he has a good engine and a decent shot. The problem is that these things never happen during the same match and for an extended period of time.

Matic says Hello
Matic is atleast big and could potentially put off the opposition's attackers but those three hold absolutely no threat of any form. Not saying Matic is good btw, he is probably slightly better than these three.

He’s been rubbish, but we can’t afford to discard a player like this with the thin, weak squad we’ve got. He might look a total liability in midfield, so I’d be bold and give him a go playing up top.
Think I’m mad?

We’re desperately short of forwards and at least he can run and carry the ball forward and he’s got a powerful shot.

OK, we’ve only seen him sky’ing it from 30 yards, but I suspect he could be lethal running into the box and firing in shots from less than 18 yards.
Nobody else is making penetrating runs into the box, or firing in powerful shots and who else is there who can do that at the moment, other than James?
