Share the opinions of most in the thread. He does some really good stuff. When he's flowing, popping passes around and breaking up play, he looks a decent player, but every now and again, he'll make a really poor pass or gets caught on the ball. He just doesn't fill you with any confidence when he's on the ball. I mean, his passing was 89.9% tonight, so not too bad, but it'll be the silly balls he gave away that i'll remember.
Such as?

His passing through the lines can be really good and precise, at times. Breaks up play well and presses the ball well.
"Breaking up play" has become such a crazy talking point here.

People keep referring to it when trying to prop Fred up as some super duper player but it only betrays how you're parroting a belief not come to by any sort of reasonable logic but pure contrarian hope.

His passing is not great and he is a total nightmare as a central midfielder because a third of his passes go to the opposition and he almost creates as many 1v1s with the keepers AGAINST us as anyone.

Nope. I personally, thinks he breaks up play well.

I said I like his passing in between the lines. If you read my previous post, you will see what I think about Fred's passing.

I'd rather see Fred starting regularly. Not all players are perfect in training. I'd like to see a run of games because I'm curious about him and he is clearly a bit different, even if more up and down than some of the other more boring options who haven't delivered.

Except nobody is claiming that.

What an absolute atrocious signing. £50m for a midfielder for someone who would struggle to get into bottom of the table Watford's midfield. Who the feck are our foreign scouts?

I thought he did all right tonight. He certaintly deserves more playing time than Lingard...we should try a midfield 3 of mct, fred and pogba.

Hes an idiot. I was really pissed off at him when there was a moment we were piling on pressure. The ball comes out to him. And from 30 yards out he shoots wildly with his weaker foot instead of moving the ball on and keeping the attack on.

We have a number of players who seem to think 30 yard piledrivers are the way to go when overlaps are occurring.

Rashford did it when Luiz deflected it but a goal kick was given & McTom did it late on in the game. Andreas loves cutting in on his left to hit the first defender too!

The coaching just isn’t happening, when they rewatch the game who’s calling them out for doing this time & again!

I dont mind players hitting it from outside the box, but it should be moments like McT for his goal. Or the Pereira or James chance where they cut in and it opened up. But when you have a team pinned back, trying to shoot on a volley with your weaker foot whilst youre off balance should see you get fined for pure stupidity (Exaggeration for the point)

He was actually shooting from a corner rebound, which is the correct decision because if he fumbles the ball it's a deadly counter attack, or if his shot gets blocked, so he had to place it high

Neville summed him up for me, but I'd start him over Matic and Lingard.
I actually was going to say the same thing on here , totally agree with Neville.

If anyone didn’t hear it Martin Tyler asked him about Fred and he said he hasn’t seen enough of him playing and when you pay £50 million for a player you expect him to slot in straightaway.

Yes shooting or swinging wildly as I saw it on his weaker foot is definitely the correct decision in that moment :houllier:

Needs a consistent run of games. 20 mins here and there is not enough. I think he has the potential but no one seems to trust him. Maybe more than meets the eye.

Team is going nowhere slowly.

We spent god knows how much on the guy, give him a run of games in his favoured position - it’s not like others are pulling up trees.

He started brightly last year, got injured & it’s been backwashes ever since. He looked good in the ‘Herrera’ busy role but now we’re asking him to be Pirlo!

Why we didn’t buy a specialist DM is beyond me.

Honestly the guy is a pretty bad footballer. Too much defects in his play I don't think he will make it at a fast league as PL.

The idiot fans here caused us to sell many players who were actually better than their replacement s. Johnny Evans > Lideleof, zaha >Rash/ Martial, etc now it’s Fred on the chopping block... a player Guardiola badly wanted you all think he didn’t watch him play. I love Fred his only weakness is losing the ball too easily on dangerous positions due to his size so he should play further forward but his movement is good. Him and McTominay are very mobile. Fred can pass with either foot. Everyone in our team struggles against bus parking teams and that’s mainly due to lack of options from our strikers.... none of whom can hold up the ball and neither wants the ball when marked.

I don't know but feel there is a player there somewhere. He has to show it fast though.
I agree. He is obviously talented and has a good engine, but it's his composure i think that let's him down.

With our current squad, he should be starting along side McTominay and Pogba. He offers more than any single one of our players playing in that 10 role currently but, Ole seems stubbornly sticking with it. Fred's not going to be able to really state his case unless he starts more games. Not saying he is anything special but, we'd at least not be playing with 10 men with him on the pitch.

Is he even a footballer ? He can't even pass straight in front of him.

A performance worth of getting fined or even sacked. Fred has no future here, also doesn't seem to really care much either way.

I don't understand him. He is Djemba Djemba. Surely he has more ability than he's shown at United.

Maybe his worst game at United. Truly horrendous.
I seriously think he has a real issue with judging space and judging how much power is needed for a simple pass.

One of the worst individual performances of the season, and that's saying something.

Unbelievably shit in almost every conceivable way.

Fred feels like one of those infamous cases from the 70s and 80s of a club mistakingly buying the wrong player.
