But today, they were great, there can be no moans, the team gave their all, and were a nat's Traveller away from a great win

It's like he watches a completely different game. Liverpool had switched to a 4-4-2 meaning they had 4 midfielders to our tired three and all their subs were in the middle. Needed Jones to come and be a harrier in midfield to disrupt their fluidity, how he doesn't see that is beyond me. What should have been a comfortable win turns into a nervy 1-1 because the manager's in game management is not up to scratch.
Exactly right. And even if Ole couldn't see that, what the hell were Carrick et all thinking.
I mean. They just sit there like dummies.

You don't have to be in the changing room at half time to see the change in tactics in a football game.

Just about sums you up
Posts like this from a few a months ago sums you up. Sorry if i don't give your (constantly changing) opinion much value.

He has done all of that, but I also think his own interviews are fueling the impression that all he does is to tell the players to go and express themselves. He has refused to take any credit for Rashford's markedly better finishing for example. One hopes of course that behind the scenes the club knows all the work that goes into it and actually does consider him for the position full time.

Was great to see Martial back, and AWB, and very soon we will have Pogba and Shaw back too. Then I suspect we will put some good results together and climb up the table. Suspect the worst has passed.

This was a game that I think played to our strengths in at least being a threat at times, on the counter, in having space behind and in the channels, not having to be as creative with the ball. But, it also required Ole to setup us up to properly to do so. He easily could have fielded Mata instead but, didn't - so that was good and we've been a well organized team defensive side all season, just as usual one brain fart away unfortunately from giving up a goal, so that was not completely unexpected.

As a team, lots of positives to take, fought hard, some good passages of play on the counter, a good first half and frankly a lot better performance from Ole himself.

Not sure what people are moaning on about the second half from us. We played an intense first half, we were up 1-0 against a team that is one of the best around right now. Just because we are Manchester United doesn't mean we were going to be able to take the game to them - that's just delusional. Any team is going to protect 1-0 a bit more in the second half, even the best teams. Mentally we haven't earned the right to be confident to try go toe to toe with them, so naturally we dropped off a little to protect.

Honestly the only thing I could see Ole maybe doing differently at the end was perhaps bring on Jones into midfield to allow Fred and McTomminay to counter the introduction of Llalana and Ox and just see out the game with 1 up top. Liverpool were creating nothing of note and it would have just forced them to play more hopeful balls in rather than have more time higher up the pitch than they did at the end.

Still take the point now. Big thing though is how does Ole manage the team when playing on the counter isn't going to be an option.

Wow, kudos for digging that up and completely changing the point of discussion. Sorry, but you are not proving anything by showing that I have changed my mind about Ole. He talked a good game when we was interim manager, and he backed it up with his on-pitch tactics and attacking mindest. Since then - 18 games to be exact, half a season - he has been revealed to be an extremely limited manager tactically and in his ability to influence games.

Tactics were good, and our performance overall too. Liverpool didn't look up for it, which helped.

Ole still can't finish a game off though, and Liverpool's goal seemed inevitable.

I guess for now focus on the positives and hope we can put some kind of run together.

Where was Matic and Lingard today? Dropped? Injured?
Both apparently injured. Lingard has been for a few weeks but Ole said Matic has been playing with an injury for a few weeks and couldn't play today.

Conspiracy theory but it could be that he knows he's not in Ole's plans going forward.

Hopefully ole sees that the 4231 doesn't help the squad we have. I'd keep that formation for now

I thought we we excellent for the first 3/4 of the match, then tired at the end. Shame we couldn’t score twice, there were opportunities to. James, Rashford and (believe it or not) Pareira were excellent. Wan-Bissaka makes a big difference too, the man’s a beast. Liverpool came to play, I’m afraid we’re still going to struggle against teams defending deep.

It says it all about how Matic has fallen away, that I only just realised when you wrote that!

Lingard would have been useful today. Just fresh legs late on.

I thought we played well today for most part, making Liverpool look average, until late on when we got tired & was pushed back. The only thing that concerned be & I would criticise the manager for is our substitutions, or lack of them. He brought on Martial with 20 min to go to replace Rashford, which coincided with us being pushed back. Did Martial touch the ball in the match? Other than Williams deep in injury time?, that was it. It was clear our players were getting tired & needed fresh legs but Solskjaar never did anything, except take of the one player who had most energy out there.

The fact I'm sat here still disappointed we didn't win is a positive. I don't think Liverpool played well today, but still we performed well given the team we had out there, and really should have got all three points.

You started the personal insults.

I doubt Ole is doing much radically different from when he first arrived. The difference is he was winning despite performances being barely different from what we are seeing now, fine margins were going our way during that run like Rojo making a mistake today.

Thought the performance had plenty of fight and the way Liverpool set up suits this counter attacking team of ours. We were pretty short on quality in the middle and further up the pitch but some strong performances, notably from Rashford and James.

Gutted to lose the lead, would have been so nice to end their unbeaten run.

But the next 4-5 games will tell us a lot more about our team than today.

Ole and the boys deserve credit tonight. Although the equaliser felt like a loss when it came, I’m happy with the performance.
Feck Klopp with this United only wanted to defend-nonsense. We created more than them In my opinion, and if anyone should have had two goals, it’s us.

Most of the players played like United players today, with high pressing, lots of guts, maximum effort and hard, but fair tackles.

Too bad we didn’t get all three points, but I haven’t given up on this project yet.

We lost a bit of edge when Martial came on, he just didn't do anything. We lost all the hunger, energy and closing down that Rashford provided, which was unsurprising but disappointing. Lad came on and played like we were cruising to victory.

I noticed that. Did he even touch the ball. Worst player though was Fred, He was just by passed later in the game, doing nothing except losing the ball.

Excellent result vs a side that is absolutely light years ahead of us, both on and off the pitch.

Also a vital point in a season in which we probably won't pick up many. A good day overall.

How?! You began by saying I had an agenda!

When Ole first arrived, the team had an intensity about it. Players made more runs, passes were quicker and there was always a desire to score more goals even if the game was won. Barring Chelsea on opening weekend, we have not scored more than 1 goal in any PL game this season. We had an intensity - if not quality - about us today, but that was really because it was against Liverpool. What was the story against Wolves, Southampton, CP, West Ham and Newcastle? Watch us revert to type against Norwich next week: sideways passing, lack of movement, no player busting their gut to get into the box. The truth is that counter-attack is our only effective weapon - which is why we have done okay against Chelsea, Leicester, Arsenal and Liverpool. But most teams won't give us that luxury and we will achieve nothing with a singular attacking plan.

Much better today. Unlike most of our performances this year there was a clear game plan that we managed to carry off for the majority of the match and it was pleasing to see us looking effective in a new formation, using plans we'd worked on in the week. I was especially impressed that we were able to slot Rojo into the back three at short notice and have him 'on-message', playing pretty well in fact. Off the ball we were great in the first half and decent in the second, although it was a pity to see us get steadily deeper as the game progressed.

On the ball we had the right idea to release James and Rashford in the channels. Both of these lads worked their bollocks off today and it was very pleasing to see them combine for a lovely goal. On the negative side there was still that disconnect between the forwards and midfield. Of course we'd like more quality, but we're not even playing to the potential of the players we have out there. Too often Rashford and James struggled to figure out when a quality ball would come to them, so couldn't get on their bikes or on the turn at the right times. If a good ball was released James in particular was caught on his heels and Rashford was left frustrated, with his back to goal or chasing lost causes when the ball was not quite up to par. I think a combination of a fundamental lack of creativity in midfield, poor decision-making and an overall lack of polish left us looking very pedestrian when we should have been tearing the scousers apart on the counter. That being said I'm feeling much more optimistic that there is something worth working on; improve the understanding, decision-making and get Pogba and Martial in there and we could start putting it together.

Poor result in the end. A point does very little for us.
Eh? Does more than a loss when you're one point from relegation zone. Now we're two!

13th place right now and some fans on here seem quite happy with this.
I know standards have fallen, but people need to wake up.

Look back to the predictions thread, made before the season started. Some people believed we were nailed on for top 4 and now we are in 13th place.
Those people who predicted top 4, need to speak up.

IMO, it's Woodward that needs to be removed from his position.
Then have the next DoF select a new manager who is able to finish in top 4 positions.

13th place after 9 matches. Why am I the only one who finds this unacceptable?

We have to look at the players we have, not those we would like to have. The players we have worked their socks off and were dead on their feet by 80 minutes. What we need from todays team is the same effort and application every game. That is the short term challenge.

Rise to the challenge and we finish top 6. If today's effort was a one off we finish bottom 6.

Encouraged by that performance the lads gave it all. Hopefully we can repeat this kind of guts and passion every week.
We all know that this won't happen.
We raised our game today, but when we play a lesser team, we'll play like a bottom 3 team.
The other issue is that we can't seem to score more than 1 goal in a game.

I never seen the game so can’t really comment our performance although the media are saying we did not too bad considering our form going into this game and the form
Liverpool were in.

No one, including myself, gave us a hope in hell of getting at least a draw in this game. I was expecting a very comfortable Liverpool win and was genuinely surprised when I found out what the score was. Credit where it’s due, I guess.

I said before the game that if I was offered a draw, I’d take it as I couldn’t see anything other than a Liverpool win.

Better team 1st half. Liverpool reminded me of when we used to go to Anfield when they were shit. 1 win in 13 here and it showed. Would have taken a draw before KO but then Liverpool were so damp and to concede so late with such a soft goal makes it seem like 2 dropped. I just want to watch my team win a football match

Well observed, thought the same. This is overlooked by desperate fans looking for any positive signs.

Things have just got progressively worse and worse, so any bounce back, however minor, is grossly exaggerated.
There should be a seperate room for the two of you where you can complain and tear down ManUtd.

I get your point but we have fallen pretty far. I think the point today, anyone would have taken at the start if the game. The important thing now is if we can draw to the *cough* best team in Europe, we should be able to beat anyone. Hopefully confidence starta to come back. So glad to see Rashford scoring a poachers goal.

Hence why having Martial back is big for us. Currently opposing teams know that if they shut out Rashford our goal threat is minimal. So having Martial back will help provide another danger. When you look at our squad, only 4 players have scored in the PL this season and one of them is Martial who's been out for most of it.

It's a welcome return back and we do have some fairly decent fixtures in the PL in the coming weeks which on paper don't look too bad. I'll remain positive and think this could be the turning point.
Who would you replace Martial with from the current line-up?

Given the circumstances we are in (lack of strikers/physical threat upfront) which I have been so vocal about all season, that was a good performance, score wise.

However...
Liverpool weren't that good in my opinion, and they missed Salah so much.
We were hanging on in the last 20 mins.
I therefore find it difficult to get optimistic after that performance.

What I do know though is City can lose Aguero, KDB etc and still have enough quality to dominate anyone. Liverpool dont have the squad to do that.

Surprisingly spirited performance from United. Until Martial joined the fray anyway.

Positive that Liverpool didn’t create much, and even looked a bit rattled at times I thought. Still, United don’t look dangerous. But for this particular game, given where both sides are at right now, I wasn’t expecting us to offer much going forward. Thought we were up for a real beating to be honest.

I guess we’re saving that for Norwich away next week
