Is Daniel James set to become our best signing since RVP?

He's not even our best signing this summer...

He had a very good game yesterday, but overall this season he hasn't been as good as some people claim he was.

Most exciting signing, after the early Pogba show. That raw speed, determination, enthusiasm, and occasional peach goals. Ibra wasn't bad either though.

I guess my point is, when you compare him to our galactico signings, aside from Pogba, he's shown them all up.
What is a Galactico anyway?
Someone that you have to pay three times the value for and they come with an earring a few tats and an attitude of I am not going to tackle or run hard.

Based on?
Based on Rashford being woeful most of the season thus far. Based on him having the decision making of an u8 yr old. Based on his constant free kick taking. based on his kick and run mentality.

He’s a long way (currently) from what i would want/expect from an apparent 200k first teamer

Scored a great goal for England. Well done. Scores a goal for us and everyone seemingly already believing (again) he’s worth the 200k contract.

Have you seen the Rashford performance thread. I’m not alone.

It’s not a witch hunt. I just think he could do with a step away for a period. Come back stronger...hopefully

Probably better than Giggs, Scholes and Cantona combined. Heck I think he would be better than Schmeical and Van der Sar if he goes in nets.

His control isn't the greatest, and that might hold him back as he becomes better marked.

he’ll lose his place in the England line up soon. If not already. Is Southgate a nutter.

Your opinion isn’t fact. Nor is mine. I can at least give an argument for my reasoning.

There are a few of these players in teams in the Championship/ relegated PL teams.
Robertson 10m from Hull
Maguire 12m from Hull
Maddison 20m from Norwich
It's all about the big clubs taking a punt and not going for the expensive foreign players. .
How much longer is that list?

He's had a very good start, he's been consistent, he's a bit light weight that's the only issue if he gets past a player with his pace, they have to foul him, if they stand him up his passing a player close can get pushed off the ball.

But I did say I had no worries about his quality, and better he will get, his disruption into the box is getting better we've seen that in last few games. I said at start of season when he goes on a run players need to gamble and get up with him into box .

Rashford and Martial along with the furthest forward CM need to make the runs forward gives him more options.

A great buy and will be a important part of the rebuild. Reminds me a bit of Stevie Coppels influence when we bought him back in the 70s. Winger who puts it in the box.

Don’t let his low price cloud your vision for his existing weaknesses.

He's been a great signing and made a very bright start, one of our better players in a foggy start to the season. Let's not put too much pressure on him though, just let him develop naturally but if we get this squad to the calibre it should be, he'll be even better as we're over-playing him at the moment. Even at his best he turns into an Antonio Valencia type winger I'd be very happy.

Blind - very good signing. Herrera was for me a good addition as well.
Yep them too. In fact, they're better than any player I named except Ibra.

Jesus wept. He is weeping as we speak.
Probably a bad choice of words on my part. RVP was much, much better than them; I just meant that we also had other players who had good short spells.

It's hard to say the same thing about Rojo, Darmian, Schneiderlin, Bastian, etc.

Good values for money (more than could be said for almost all of our signings Post-Fergie) so far anyway, but let us not compare him with RVP when he was the catalyst for our title win in the 2012-2013 season.

Let's see, post RvP signings: Mata, Fellaini, Di Maria, Shaw, Herrera, Rojo, Blind, Falcao, Martial, Schneiderlin, Depay, Darmian, Basti, TFM, Pogba, Mkhi, Bailly, Zlatan, Lukaku, Matic, Lindelof, Sanchez, Fred, Dalot, Lee Grant, Maguire, AWB, James.

I think the bolded ones have been equally good or better.

EDIT: Obviously ridiculously short duration to extrapolate, but assuming current form continues for the whole season.

Started really well but would expect his form to drop at some stage as he is still a kid. Deserves to be starting at the moment which is probably what had surprised me the most, how quickly he has settled.

Impressed by what we're getting from him so far..for 15 million:

1. Can play left wing.
2. Can play right wing.
3. Can play in the middle.
4. Wonderkid.
5. Full-time Welsh international.
6. Great pro. Very determined.
7. Unbelievable pace.
8. Unbelievable stamina.
9. Unbelievable fitness.

If he turns out to be a world class player, should be the best signing ever made in modern football.
I think Kante cost lest than a million

Hes been incredibly exciting but it's his first season in the league. New players, particularly pace merchants, often find it much harder in year 2 when oppositions know what to expect from them. He will have to adapt.

Compared to RVP who oppositions still couldn't defend against after all the years he was in England.

Would be interesting to know the stats for shirt sales, his was one of the most common when I was at OT for the Liverpool game, obviously people with the same surname/ first name are likely to pick him but was interesting his name was the one I noticed on a fair few shirts

He's definitely one of my favourite players, I love his attitude you couldn't imagine him downing tools, his cross for Rashford yesterday was great, a criticism people have had of him has been he doesn't look up, you actually saw him look up before crossing, so hopefully he does that a bit more and the likes of Rashy/ Martial continue to make the runs so he can cross to them. Obviously he is still a work in progress and I hope Ole and co are giving him the coaching he needs to help develop his game. He has surprising shot power as well, think it was the goal he scored against Southampton I was shocked by the power he got on it.

I like how you can tell he genuinely loves playing for the club too- I know most people should love playing for United and he's got the golden opportunity to be in the team due to the injuries however currently hes making himself one of the first names on the team sheet due to his performances. He seems very popular with his teammates too.

Perhaps as well it helps most people viewed him as a signing for the future, with the view to be a useful squad player, whereas the world class players we have signed had higher expectations, which they then didnt live up to- we had lower expectations for him and he is far exceeding them so far, hopefully he can continue to do so. His cheap cost also helps, but then look at Robertson for Liverpool.

One thing I do worry about with him is retaliation challenges that cause him to get injured/ challenges on him being more "injury causing" due to the sheer pace he travels at

I would also like to see him cut the theatrics from his game, we dont need him to start getting a reputation. I know half the time it looks like he "dived" due to the speed he is going at but he went down easily for the penalty yesterday, It is probably harder for him to stay on his feet due to the speed he is going however I'd like to see a little less of him on the floor, didnt Ronaldo start to get a bit of a reputation in his early days? It could lead to him gaining a reputation causing genuine fouls on him to be missed so hope Ole has a word with him about it

He's looked better than I think anyone expected. Few would have seen him as a first choice starter even with our lack of a right winger. His work rate and effort stands out but he's been better on than ball than I expected.

I never rated Darmian even in his first month and was also critical of Bailly so not one to get carried away.

None of which shows that James is better than him on the left wing.

I think Messi cost less than a packet of crisps.
He would have cost them a lot at the time they recruited him. Not millions maybe but a sizeable amount.

I recall they moved and employed his entire family and paid for his operations

He has adapted far, far quicker than I expected. From what I’ve seen anyway.

We have no idea what Daniel James will become yet, so that's a overly preemptive assumption.

What we have seen so far though, indicates that we have signed a great value signing. He's not a difference maker like RVP could be, yet, but he's shown that he can absolutely be a important cog in the machinery. His acceleration is a tool we make use of, and he's done well for himself so far. Definitely a player myself and probably a lot of others had down as a learning rotational player, but he's been cheeky and made himself into a starting player. So well done to him, and long may it continue.

He looks like a Park that might be faster, and maybe his crossing can be interesting too. The real question will be when he is being under pressure more often and more quickly, how will he react? He is certainly very unselfish.

United have been signing lazy or immobile players which imbalanced our squad and that’s the main reason we have been shit for 6yrs now. Mata, Herrera, fellaini, Pogba,, kagawa, schweinsteiger, Ibrahimdovic have all had extended spells here.
James is a breath of fresh air. Quick, workohalic and more talent than people realize. Not the most technically gifted but that hasn’t stopped Liverpool who are really mostly a team of hard workers.

The most positive surprise for years. Much better than i ever thought. He will be at least very solid squad player which are needed also. Let's see will he be a regular starter or not. Still one of the best value signing post Fergie.

most United fans are poor judges of a football player. Ridiculous things have been said about McTominay in spite of all the support from Fergie and Mourinho of all people. A coach who’s the last to hype young players
