A player gets his own song only when he wins over the hearts of the fans and i think Scott was booed for passing backwards during the Mourinho era and Jose himself stuck by the youngster's side and said that he's a great kid and has amazing potential. Everybody including myself doubted that but he has proved us all wrong this season. He's played regularly and we miss him dearly when he's not playing. I cannot wait for Pogba to step into this team now and become the pivotal point in attack because i think Pogba can break teams and that's our only problem right now.
I never doubted him and he always look very good, even passing sideways etc. He has always looked like he did the simple things very well, now he has extended his game and he is getting more credit. But the talent was always there to see.

I'm happy more people are recognizing him for his quality now.

I disagree. He looked incredibly limited when he first came in. He tried hard but wasn't the commanding presence he has been recently. He wasn't even particularly well rated at youth level and his call up came as a complete surprise. His improvement in such a small space of time has truly been incredible. Fair play to the lad, he's going to have a brilliant career.

Only 8 midfielders have more successful dribbles per game or per 90 mins. Out of that players like David Silva, KdB, Maddison are more attacking midfielders than CMs.

He is very underrated when it comes to his skill on the ball, not very good passer of the ball but he carries the ball so well.
Yeah this is where I like to intervene when people say he’s poor on the ball; they mostly make that judgement based off his passing, but that isn’t the whole picture. He’s actually really good on the ball, surprisingly accomplished gliding forward with it and has quick feet which draws in so many fouls.

His distribution of the ball is one you can’t really make an argument for or against at the moment. He is capable of a great pass but he’s inconsistent. I can see why people say he needs to improve so I step back.

But I’m so proud of the lad, love watching him play.

He covered 11.69 kms vs City, that's awesome considering he covered almost same distance vs Spurs too on Wednesday.

As long as nothing happens to any of them injury wise I think player of the season will be between him, Rashy or possibly James as an outside bet. Obviously also if they maintain or improve their current form

10k isn’t really that much, especially for a pro athlete. The impressive part comes in when you realise that most of that distance would have been covered with high intensity sprints and not casual jogging.

The improvements he has made are insane,. I didn't see this coming one year ago. I think the injuries last season and this season in the midfield, were a blessing in disguise, because they gave McT minutes and responsibility without having to take all the pressure.
He played well during the spring as one of the few players near the end. Started well under Mourinho too in the big games, but not so great against the weaker sides. I think one year ago we played so bloody bad under Mourinho that we didn't expect anything.

He has improved massively, when he first appeared I though he had no chance whatsoever. He seemed a very limited player, but his desire and work ethic has impressed me. I think he is doing the job that Herrera used to do.

Still we should improve on him and Fred at the moment but he's looking like a future quality player for sure.

He actually has a bit of gamesmanship about him. When he draws a foul, he makes sure the ref sees it and calls it. I think Jose hinted at it after the game too, in a complimentary way.
I agree, he's good at it. He's a bit more nuanced with it than Herrera was too. Herrera just screamed for everything and constantly got in the referees ear, refs were probably sick of him. McT seems a bit more subtle.

It’s also that his kind of players often go under the radar for us fans, because he is not so spectacular. Not so fancy but putting in damn good work.

On the contrary, our fans love players who put in work. He just wasn't used the same way under Jose; right now he's turning in much more complete performances which our fans really like as well.

He certainly has a good engine and a big heart as well.
I am really proud that he is 'one of our own'.

Think this Liverpool game in 17/18 was his first big game for us:

Crazy how much he's progressed. Physically he looks a lot bigger now and he's also more assertive and comfortable with the ball. Still had a good game back then but he's developed leaps and bounds.

Agree, sometimes hard working players even get more cred than they deserve. But would still say young players like this are under the radar compared to players like Rashford for example.

It didn't really go well for him during Jose's reign because we were under immense pressure and i guess he could feel it. He worked tirelessly but because with Matic was alongside him or Fellaini, he probably looked bad. This season he has been given the license to kill and some of weight of pass forward is so heavy, it's so hard to stop the ball under your foot. That's the level of confidence he protrudes now.

I think Jose deserves a lot of credit for recognising his talents but there’s no doubt that he plays with a bit more authority and gets about the pitch more now which suits him.

Always remember Scott playing in a midfield 3 with Fred and Andreas in the FA cup in a horrible game (last year I think) and he performed way better than the other two when he was shifted to more of an 8 role. He’s definitely not a pure DM in my eyes.

Maybe I'm wrong but wasn't it vs Chelsea 17/18. That or the Liv game, either way he's impressive in both.

Early half PoTS so far is between him and Rash. Then James.

For me,
1. McT - most consistent and increasingly important.
2. Rash - inconsistent but many match winning games.
3. James - key early games then constant threats.

What stands out most for me with Scott are his leadership qualities on and off the field. His form has been great and I've seen a few interviews of his recently and there's definitely a potential future club captain there. The way he has developed into being one of the first names on our teamsheet week in, week out is outstanding.

He has shown that leadership quality since last season during interviews especially the PSG & Barcelona game. Seems to be very matured as a person and has the charismatic.

One good pass but Fred was a one midfield today, Mctominay looked lost. Was thinking he should be subbed but no one else to come in.

Thought it was a very poor game from him today. That shot he took at the end had zero chance of going anywhere and ended up setting Everton off on the attack. Summed up his whole day.

Was the best I’d seen him ever play for the first half an hour I thought, then became progressively rubbish as the game went on. The middle of the park is obviously an area we need to improve.

He was poor for the vast majority of the game, also put AWB in a difficult position with his poor passing in the second half and was brainless for most of the forward passing.

Thought he was awful, as bad as he's ever been.

Seemed to do nothing in the 2nd half but go around committing needless stupid fouls and helping Everton waste time.

He's still a young lad so it's to be expected, I still really rate him. He was just rubbish today.

How was he terrible today? Jesus Christ, it was an uninspired performance all round but I think McT got about well, won the ball and played some nice passes. Could’ve been better of course but like someone said above he looked half fit.

Worst players for me were Shaw and Maguire. Martial didn’t do much either. Not sure why Mata was even brought on.

He misplayed a lot of passes. Defensively he was good, but offensively he was mostly absent.

Poor from him, Everton were very organized and he didn't do anything to help out CBs to build the play.

Can't believe those blaming him today. Do they expect him to come out flying like hell every game? I saw too important interventions in the 18 yard box from him, quite elegant. Everton came to play a defensive and midfield game, and he did his best under the circumstances. No help from a pointless Lingard to him and Fred for 60 mins, that was the problem folks.

I thought he was excellent apart from one awful pass in the 2nd half that got intercepted and required a super tackle from Wan-Bissaka to save us. Two great passes that set Dan James free, one in each half, and a bit unlucky with his through-ball to Rashford that Coleman defended well. Also won the free-kick close to edge of their box with a Cruyff turn. Several good moments defending dangerous crosses.

WhoScored have him as the man of the match. 4 key passes.

Thank you! Bit of common sense analysing his performance in this thread

If he didn’t play we would have lost this game. Simple as. The amount of defensive contributions he stacked up; as well as his key passes...
