Controversial opinion but Young is better than him both defensive and offensively. Also he isn't gassed after 60 mins.

Not good enough when we need to break teams down. Doesn't look interested in attacking the acres of space he has in front of him a lot of the time.

If he's been instructed not to do so then fair enough, but even when he does get into good attacking positions his quality isn't great imo.

Offers absolutely nothing going forward. Questionable defensively. He was absolutely gassed after 75 minutes. Wingers just breezed past him.

Looked liked he was playing extra time after 30 minutes.

Offers nothing nothing going forward and had Fred and Maguire clearing up after him defensively. A waste of space.

Generally thought he was good today and vastly improved when Pogba and Martial were on his side and he had people to link up with and spot his runs.

Made two good blocks, put in 2 good crosses slipped through some nice passes for Martial or Pogba and even before they were on if Rashford didn’t have blinkers on Shaw made numerous good runs or offered himself for a pass went inside a lot and found himself dragging players out of position in their 18 yarder.

Williams is better and plays with desire.

Mourinho called him out because he couldn’t coach him. He’s trained hundreds of players in his career, yet it comes to Luke Shaw and he gets so frustrated that the player won’t follow his instructions or advice to improve. Says it all.

He is absolutely useless, seriously. And he wasn't even close to being one of our better players today. Defensively, people take him on with ease. Offensively, we at United are used to having full backs bombing forwards looking for that space, over-lapping our wingers and trying to get a decent cross in. Shaw, on the other hand, just slowly breezes up, completely and utterly one-dimensional and 99% of the time it ends up with him stood still with a defender in front of him and then just uselessly passing it backwards. VERY frustrating to watch him today. If I was the manager of United I'd be prioritizing left-back as one of the positions where we desperately need a new player with hunger and desire, because Shaw has neither.

His forward movement is dreadful. Its probably been like this for a while (a blind spot of mine) but he just doesn’t seem to know how get into attacking positions.

Fat, lazy and not very good at football. Also got his customary yellow card for pulling back somebody who got in behind him because that requires less effort than actually doing your job. After five years of this, being injured half the time and rarely in shape to do his job he gets rewarded with a pay rise. We have no hope of getting shot of him.

Atrocious player who has stolen a living here by having such an appalling injury record.

Williams offers more than him and I think Young does too.

A horror show of a LB. Enough is enough.

His crossing is crap and he barely runs.

Shouldn’t be controversial. Young is a much better player and despite being ten years older is in much better shape. Shaw isn’t a professional and his game hasn’t improved a jot since he was 18.

Slightly less clueless going forward than the guy at the other side of the pitch. I prefer Williams every day of the week.

He has to be one of the biggest frauds and imposters in this team. The useless fat feck is stealing a living for years now. His attacking contribution is the worst from any left back in the league, him standing still and passing the ball to players standing right next to him instead of doing a run or taking some initiative is infuriating. The Phil Jones of left backs, i am starting to hate him. Next to JLingz and Jones the most useless player i have seen post Fergie. His attacking contribution is zero, his defensive one is 'decent'. That is his level, i pray to god we buy a LB in the summer.

Picked up where he left off from last season with the shirt pulling and the yellow card. HAS to sort that out, it's just ridiculous now. There were two occasions in the second half when Watford were past him on the break and you could see he wanted to do it again but realised he couldn't.

He’s actually gone back a lot in the past year. He’s far too static going forward.
Another position that needs to be sorted unfortunately.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

Shaw is a better passer and helps maintain possession more than Young. Young is better at getting into dangerous positions and driving us forward down the left, but also gives the ball away a lot with aimless balls. That means that on a good day Young is better offensively than Shaw, but on a bad day he's worse. It's worth noting that Shaw seems to have a better combination with Martial down the left than Rashford, which was seen again today as soon as Martial moved out there.

He’s an average player, without thinking, he can’t be in the top 10 LBs in the league.

Not a big fan of his I think he was fairly poor again today and he’s limited going forward. I much prefer Williams think he’s far better going forward and equally good defending

Agree with all your points. Worth noting that Young is a 34 year old ex winger who is in the twilight of his career. Says a lot about our first choice left back.

He's a Sunday league fullback.
decentish defending but utter crap going forward.
Cant get away with that at the top.
Sell him.

I hope Ole is looking for another LB, Shaw has been given more than enough time and chance to earn his stay but the fact of the matter is that he simply isn't good enough.

Agreed but he is only one of 7 or 8 who aren't good enough!

He is part of the problem. The big issue is that AWB is weak going forward, our wingers are not great and attacking full-backs make such a massive difference and that's his biggest weakness, one that will not be fixed for me.

AWB is going nowhere and will play 90% of the games next season. We need to balance it and have a LB that is great at attacking.

Thing is he's going to get a run of games now - plays himself into fitness and form - then gets injured - and then subjects us to another 10 games of shite whilst he gets himself match fit. Not what we need.

I think that's why Ole moved Martial to the left, Pogba and Shaw like having someone to play 1-2s with and that ain't Rashfords style

Some of the comments above are harsh and defensively he played well at Watford.

But he is the worst overlapping full back I have ever seen. Modern full backs need to provide width and he just refuses to go anywhere near the touchline. When he goes beyond the winger, he's as likely to go inside than outside despite an absolute acre of space out wide. When he does get forward, he is usually closer to the edge of the penalty area than the touchline.

You have Rashford, James or Martial on the left who want to come inside. It is ideal for a left footed full back to overlap outside.

I cannot understand why he does it and why nobody at the club has corrected it but if he stood 15 yards more to the left when going forward, he would be an infinitely better offensive option. It is infuriating.
