Let's hope he is more like another Ronaldo, and not Di Maria.
Might not be Ronaldo. But i'm almost sure he won't be Di Maria. Everything says Bruno wants to be here, Di Maria never wanted to be, he got to the point where it was visually obvious he couldn't be arsed.

Hey, here's a novel idea, shall we give him more than 2 games before we start hanging him out to dry?

Nah, feck it, anything less than a hatrick in his first game and we've been had.

I said it wouldn’t happen, I was wrong!!!
Time will tell if I’m happy to be wrong or not. Here’s hoping he proves a great purchase.

This is a potentially very good deal at £70k a week. Could prove to be a very very good investment compared to someone like Maddison.

70k and a £47 million upfront fee. For all the stick we give Woodward if we are changing our stance of overpaying on both wages and transfer fees then this looks a job well done.

If he turns out to be shit he will be much easier to offload.

And we still haven't agreed his personal terms ??

I find that crazy / stupid / unbelievable / typical that we have been arguing with Sporting for six months, at least, without talking to his agent at the same time ??

Bets that the transfer falls down not because we couldn't agree the transfer fee, but because we can't agree his salary ??

Not unknown....
Dont be hysterical. Would anyone fly off without knowing the agreed salary?

Bruno just wants to play in EPL to challenge himself. That's all what he wants.

Plus in view of what has been proposed and agreed upon on with Ole/team and when he expects United to be competitive again esp for the CL timeline.

So in the meantime, there is an expected sizeable drop in revenues -- so we trim costs & wages till we are back in the game. Woodward has been doing that to compensate for the reduced revenues since the summer. The speculate to accumulate approach of the past is replaced by a more logical, comprehensive root/branch approach.

I bet Bruno has massive wage/bonus uplift whenever we are in the CL again.

Imagine.

He gets to OT to sign the papers and goes "what, only half of Lingard? I see him play. He is not good! Come wife, we leave for Sporting immediately"

And continue to get paid 1/4th of Lingard? Yes, that will make him feel happy and valued.

No more galacticos salaries (for non-galacticos players) going forward. But this will make future transfer negotiations more difficult.

This may be par for course, glacier like pace.

70k a week is great for Utd. Looks like you guys picked up a great player and got him on good wages. Can’t wait to see him in the premier league.

We definitely need to be patient with Fernandes.

If you think of the major European leagues in terms of intensity, physicality and pace it's:
England 10
Spain, Germany 8
France 7
Italy 6
Netherlands, Portugal 4

He was a young-ish failure in Italy (6) and had to rebuild his reputation in Portugal (4). The chances of him hitting the ground running in England (10) are likely to be slim.

Hopefully it won't take as long as it did for Fred, but Bruno's physique makes me think the adaptation won't be quick. Skinny players are obviously capable of being tough, but it takes them longer than somebody with a naturally big frame.

I'd love it if he could save our season in the next few months, but I'm keeping expectation low. Between now and August is his preseason in terms of where I'm setting the bar.

It's said in the vid below that Fernandes has played in a 4-3-3 and it might just be for the best if Pogba and Fernandes are deployed as the two creative #8s ahead of a DM.

I don’t want to get too excited but Bruno May well be the player that clicks like VVD did at Liverpool.

We have amazing forwards but a creative cam has been the missing link imo. Andreas, Lingard and Mata have all fallen short a bit here - really hope we’ve found our man. Be interesting to see how he links with Pogba.

This approach has always gotten my vote. Bruno works very hard to match his attacking attributes. I see both him and Pogba as 8.5’s. Too attacking to be pure 8s. But I really think this can work. Unfortunately McTominay is also better suited as an 8 IMO.

Thank you! I don’t even know how the whole Sporting Lisbon thing started to be fair but it is a common misconception about our name.
I don't know where it start, but I found out "Sporting Lisbon" name when you signed Peter Schmeichel in 1999. Almost all English media wrote Sporting Lisbon not Sporting CP at the time. You can blame them, its a terrible journalism.

This transfer saga nearly at its end. I hope he lives up to the hype at United and doesn't become another flopp signing like Di Maria or Sanchez.

He'll definitely need a fair amount of time to adjust. Hopefully we can put a functioning midfield behind him and add more creativity in front to bring the best out him.

I don't think he will fail here since he has a lot of attributes to succeed. He's hard working for once and that's a guarantee with him every game unlike a lukaku or Sanchez, age is by his side, he's not a system player as the team at sporting used to depend on him for almost everything going forward, his desire to be here has been apparent and that should mean that he should adapt quickly, he's a leader and captain and God knows we need such players and talented for sure.

He's got everything he needs to succeed, just hope that we afford him the time needed, which could likely run into a year almost given the huge step up.

RvN came from Netherland, and so was Park and Suarez. They instantly hit the ground here.

Neither of them wanted to come here so there's that. Also I remember being underwhelmed by the AdM links because i wasn't convinced he was a CM, only had one good season with Madrid there. Bruno looked like a kid on Christmas morning when he was rushing to the airport.

Who were the last attacking player we signed that was actually good? Ibra and Van Persie before him?

Our record of signing top attackers is really poor. In the last 10 years I'd argue the only good attackers we signed are Chicharito, Ibra and Van Persie.

Really hope Bruno is a big success. Very happy with the signing.

70k per week and 45m-55m deal is really a good deal.

At worst, if he couldn't settle well, we can still sell him for 30m+ (assume his clause didn't trigger and we only need to pay 45m anyway) and most club could still afford his 70k per week salary, it won't be difficult for us to find a buyer. (which is unlikely anyway)

At best, he could have a big impact to our squad, scoring double figure every season from midfield, and 55m would be a steal. (which is more likely)

Can Bruno speak English? Hope so as that will enable him to settle much quicker....

funny though, as if he debuts on Saturday against Wolves there will be loads of fellow Portuguese playing as Wolves are full of them!

really hope that he hits the ground running
Everyone can speak English. Only Valencia can't.
