Ole out here. I'm past getting convinced by a set amount of wins in a row or runs in cups etc.
The only way he can prove his managerial acumen to me is to play good cohesive football with the team at his disposal. It seems as if he feels that the only way to prove that you're a good manager is to get good players and then win games with them, which is false. A good manager makes players play good football regardless of quality, which then allows him to get a chance at a bigger club with more resources to allow for signing better players. What people are often forgetting about Poch (for example, he's not necessarily my first pick) is that he didn't just turn up at Spurs. He did it at Southampton and made them play good football before getting the chance at Spurs.
Problem is that in order to get good players you have to be a good team, and we're never going to be a good team if the manager doesn't have an idea of how he wants to play beyond telling his starting XI to go out there and do whatever suits their playing style. A manager with an idea of how he wants to play wouldn't have different players performing completely differently in the same role/spot in the team.
A few examples: 1) When Matic came in to the side, there was a very obvious ambition from him to turn forward with the ball and pass it between the lines. If he likes that, why hasn't he told other CDMs to do the same? If he dislikes that, why does he bring Matic into the side and why doesn't he tell him to cut it out? 2) When Brandon Williams is playing LB we see him running into the opponents' box multiple times, getting himself into great scoring positions. If he likes that, why doesn't he tell Luke Shaw to do the same? If he doesn't like that, why does he keep picking him and why doesn't he tell him to cut it out?
The fact that the players' personalities and styles dictate the way we play to the extent it does tells me that Ole's only chance of success is to stay here long enough to get quality players in who can perform well for him without any real tactical input. We can all shout about getting Pogba back etc, but by the time we get a squad full of players on his level (under Ole) Pogba will have not only left, but probably retired from football.
