Could have lowered our asking price for Pogba in August and bought Bruno and we'd probably be in top 4 easy now.
No one was willing to pay money.

Juve spent money on De Ligt
Real Madrid spend over 250m

They are the only two clubs who are really interested in him.

The transfer window closed at the end of July too.

Why you criticizing him personally?
Eyesight test ... optician... what the hell...

You should never insult the poster, just criticize the post. That is very unethical and against the rules of this forum. I hope moderators talk to you about it.
@Tom Cato now go sit on the naughty step you bad, bad boy.

So are we saying Ole is 4 for 4 on transfers then (James I know Jury is out but first season and a real step up in opposition. He’ll improve and be at least a decent squad player)?

That’s one area we really should give him credit. Obvious signings but good ones.
I’ve been saying this for months prior to Bruno’s arrival and getting major backlash from the Ole Out brigade on here.

The recruitment has been about as good as it could possibly have been in the two windows he’s has.

If anything he’s paid the price for getting rid of the deadwood a bit too quickly but I’d rather look at it from a perspective that one poor season to clear the raft of tripe we had here was worth it and we got better money in selling when we did.

I think he did what most of us as fans of the club would do (and he’s a fan remember) and got rid of every player who wasn’t fully committed to this great club.

Lukaku -you don’t want to be here? Feck off!

Hererra -you want crazy money at your age? Feck off!

To change the mentality of a group of players means practical changes as well as tactics and setup. The bad apples need to be removed in order for any

And so on. I think any player not begging to stay he would of discarded mentally and looked to get them out of the door.
Whichever way you look at it we shouldn’t keep players who don’t want to be here.

I keep saying it, so for fear of repeating myself again, I believe the squad balance and quality had to be improved and quickly, Ole has done a very good job at that, to the detriment of performance this season however ultimately if he does leave he has made the next managers job a LOT easier.

I've been pleasantly surprised with how he's settled into the team so quickly coming from the Portugese league. Early days still, but the initial impression after 3 appearances is good.

Jose used McTominay exclusively as a DM and he excelled in big matches against the likes of Chelsea and Pool. He's an extremely disciplined player and I would have no qualms about playing him as a DM.

You can play 4-3-3 with 2 advanced midfielders if your front 5 are good at pressing, something which Bruno, Maddison, Rashford and Grealish all are. As for playing Rashford through the middle, I would like to remind you that it wasn't too long ago where people said Rashford was never good enough on the left when he was played there by Jose, people would clamour for him to be played through the middle. He proved that in the right system, he was great out on the left. Similarly, if you have creative players behind him who allow him to stretch the defense and not have to come deep for the ball( which Martial does for us because our creativity in midfield is poor), he'd be great through the middle as well.

I'm not saying Rashford has to be played through the middle, but a system can work with a high pressing 4-3-3 that has the likes of Grealish, Bruno and Maddison.
McT is not a DM atleast not yet. Fred can make a case but still way off from what's needed as lone DM .
Least bothered about what people said earlier about Rashford , he is clearly not a striker. While Martial is also not a great option, he is still better than Rashford as striker.

You just cant accommodate Grealish,Maddison,Bruno,Rashford in one line up without Rashford in the middle.

Same here. He'll be finding his feet between now and the end of the season but we've already seen enough (movement, touch, attacking intent, dead ball delivery) to suggest that he'll be a real asset.

Does that mean City play Fifa?

Fred/ Mctominay as CDM with two box to box. Grealish is capable of defending, so is Bruno.

We have defensive full backs as well which will help us protect the counter attack.

What difference is it playing 442 to 433 with one holding?
Multiple reasons

1. You are seriously underestimating the role of Fernandinho .
2. You are seriously overestimating the role of McT or Fred.
3. City full backs play high up while you are suggesting our FBs to stay defensive.
4. City is an exception and they are the only one who plays with 2 AMs and one DM. Just Pep things.

My point was, playing a 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 is similar.

A 4-4-2 will have 2 CM's of which one will sit and one attack. Similar to the 4-2-3-1 formation.

It would work if we go and dominate games, but if the manager decides we want to sit in all game, clearly doesnt work.

Trust me he is not complaining about the United team when you compare it to the pub team that is sporting.

So should I mark this one up as another win for me in the Portuguese talents or is it still too early to tell?
I'm already happy. Bruno is definately the kind of player we should aspire to get in. He ads something noone else in the team has, and is also interesting and exciting to watch. He seems like he has catalysator abilities about him.

Yes, that gives us ALOT of time to get another player in doesn't it?
You said July. I was just pointing out your mistake.

Also we had the rest of the summer too. Pogba could have been moved on in the summer for sure but we wanted too much for him. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but we'll probably get a lot less for him this summer. Another huge own goal by Woodward and co.

What would you have suggested? I don't think we had a choice when no one comes with a satisfactory fee. £120m is not too much for Pogba considering we paid £90m like 4 years ago.

We will probably look for same or £100m so not really an own goal.

He is a natural born leader as well and if I am being frank I don’t see a lot of leaders at United. He is the type of guy to grab the whole team by the balls and say “let’s get this done” “run more” etc.

Trust me he played with absolute shite at Sporting but he still managed to carry them.

I did say Rashford would have to play through the middle. And just because you think Rashford isn't a striker, that doesn't make it gospel.

You never know how a player is gonna develop in the long run.

I really appreciated your views on Fernandes and I have been so impressed with him already, I think he's going to be a cracking player.
Hopefully you guys can get your team back into a good and healthy position too, I used to visit Portugal a lot with my family, Sporting and Porto were always the teams my brother and I looked out for. Benfica too, but we were heavily influenced by the Portuguese staff and workers we encountered  Plus you gave us Ronnie so there is a lasting friendship between the clubs for sure :D

Ronnie, Nani, now Bruno! We have done well with you lot :D

I would agree with this . I see people backing Jose saying he's struggling because he doesn't have Kane and Son but we haven't had Pogba all season and missed Martial ,Rashford and McT for long spells . Everyone gets injuries but we have had them to key players

If Pogba and Rashford get to play again this season I would love to see this formation.

Rashford.....Martial
Pogba...................Bruno
Fred......Mct
Shaw....Maguire....Lind...AWB
DDG
I think a 4222 will work with this players. If Pogba leave in the Summer and we get Grealish you can put him on the same position there and it will still work out. During the game they can also interchange position and also make a diamond. Would like to see them work as a fluid midfield.

Another very good signing by the management -- they know what they are looking for in terms of the missing pieces. Another three more missing pieces before we have the starting 11 that Ole wants?

This is what I have been thinking, I feel we are a big summer transfer window away from looking a different animal altogether :keano:

Cannot see us bringing in Grealish this summer if Pogba does end up staying. Personally I still think the striker situation is right up in the air at the moment.

That kinda depends, as we are unaware if these signings are names Ole threw into the hat, or Phelan, or the rest of our scouting team on the transfer committee. Since we changed the way we do transfer business it's hard to say if the manager should get full credit, or just credit for not vetoing a transfer.
The Summer of 2018 is when we changed that and why Mourinho lost his shit; we can be rather certain Dalot was a Mourinho name, Fred possibly wasn't. Maguire, AWB, James and Bruno though, 3 of them were such obvious signings and the forth is looking more and more "meh" by the week so who knows really?

So yes, credit needs to go to the management team and club for getting 3 of 4 signings looking like they are right, 4 of 6 if we include Fred and Dalot.
This is the first time I’ve seen someone describe our transfer process/structure like this on here. Reading the caf, you would think it’s simply Woodward playing Football Manager, and needs to stop making all these ‘football decisions’.

Looking at Bruno and Harry in the post match interview after Chelsea, made me think of all the years of mentality and confidence issues we've seen over the years pointed out by Moyes, Van Gaal, Mourinho and Solskjær in different ways. And of how many players we have brought in with mentality/confidence weaknesses in the same time period. It seems Solskjær is the first since Fergie to have managed to get our recruitment set up to assess personality in addition technical and physical potential.

To even think that someone like Mourinho chose/was served/forced to to have players with the mentality builds of Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Lukaku, Sanchez, Martial and Shaw. And even as I think Lindelöf and Fred has shown varieties of mental strength to overcome their catastrophic carreer beginnings at Old Trafford, it's obvious that neither of them either have the leadership character types of Bruno and Harry. No one will ever know how much this was down to the managers, Woodward or the scouting team, but it is reassuring to see the change in recruitment.

His signings have been good. But there is nothing to show on the pitch.
Look at the league table before saying something about Ole out brigade.

I’m acutely aware of the league position and have stated on multiple occasions that it needs to improve - however top four (or five) is still attainable and with another summer of signings it will improve.

I don’t need any permission to talk about anything fella.

This is a marathon not a sprint, before we win the league we need to put the work in and finish the rebuild.

Totally agree with you,Ole should be allowed to finish the rebuild before he is judged,i've nevered been convinced that Ole is going to last long term but at the same time his signings are the most convincing, and his philosophy in theory is good if after the rebuild he can't implement his style successfully then united could appoint someone with a proven record of winning with similar style,we need continuity if we ever want to return to the top
