Best form in last few years. He is looking great. Maybe he read thread "Williams is bettwr than Shaw"? :wenger:

Such a well-rounded player. Solid in defense, great first touch, composure on the ball and good passing range. Can't believe people are actually comparing him to Williams. A fit and motivated Shaw is by far the better player.

Rich vein of form, can this be the time he finally kicks on? With the amount of players that have improved under Solskjaer I'm optimistic.

He’s looking a lot fitter at the moment. When he plays in his top form he’s one of the first names on the team sheet. Just needs to to add more goals and assists now.

Who is the better defender, Shaw or AWB?

Close call i say.
AWB for me but like you say, it's a very close call. Shaw offers a lot on the ball too, even if hes not bombing on, hes incredibly composed on the ball with a great first touch.

Best run of games since his horrendous leg break. When he plays like he has been over the last few weeks he’s one of the first names on the team sheet.

Really hope he kicks on and gets some consistency now. Playing next to the same centre back most of the time must be helping too.

I'm actually baffled that Shaw is showing such form right now, he's been superb. If he adds consistent attacking thread, the LB spot is his, but he has to cut out this tendency of slowing his tempo down almost to 0.

My thoughts too. He’s been very good lately and I just hope he maintains it!

Hard to believe this is the same player I wanted sold a couple of months or so ago. He makes it so hard for anyone to hate him when he is like this. He has this insane level in him, where the only thing he lacks is end product. Then he eats a small town and has to start completely from scratch in pre season. If this were to change under Solskjaer, I'd be very very happy.

AWB no need to think. Shaw often need to commit foul when defending. AWB can win the ball back or win a tackle without commit a foul. However, Shaw seems to me that he is more intelligent with his positioning than AWB.

Shaw and Williams pushing each other is a good thing for the team.

Just over a month ago it look like Williams has become our first choice LB, but now Shaw is back at it.

He was very casual today, played like the game was too easy for him and it was. There is an almost sense of arrogance in his game now. Great to watch

AWB but that's really a testament to how good he is defensively because Shaw has always been renowned for his defensive abilities from since he was a teenager.

Technical ability wise its really a no contest. That ridiculous first time long pass to Greenwood (?) was something even seasoned midfielders will struggle to pull off.

Maybe Williams fantastic form earlier was the reason he stepped up and played much better right now?
Anyway it's a good problem to have. A vet player and an academy player as backup with not much drop in quality is perfect

I read somewhere that he had a child recently and seems happy in his personal life. Didn’t Fergie always say he liked his players to settle down and have families to support them. Am I imagining that? Great to see him playing well again. It’s been coming in bits and pieces over the seasons but this is the best few games post injury now. He’s at a crossroads again. I hope he can kick on!

People tend to forget he was out for 3 months at the start of the season. Took him awhile to play himself back into form. He also a confidence player similar to Nani. I think Ole's soft tactics worked on him.

He's been fantastic since the Liverpool game. Finally showing why he's been so hyped as a teenager.

Credit where it's due, he has been very good lately. Defensively solid, doesn't offer enough going forward, but still much better than before.

For a full back, he really has a great first touch compared to most players in the league. Technically very good with the ball. I just wish for his shooting to improve as he can definitely strike a ball better but i guess that's perhaps too much to ask

I suspect he’s quite a high maintenance player, who requires quite a bit of both carrot and stick to be kept on track. When the manager is prepared to take that on (LvG was; it looks like Ole is also) it’s worth the effort.

This is not surprising, the issue with him has been consistency for different reasons. He is an excellent player when in form.
His turn of pace keeps surprising me, he outruns fast players and doesn't look like he's trying that hard.

He got that natural pace and is a very strong runner. Seen him outpace the likes of Jesus Navas before.

Plus he is probably still 5-8 kg too heavy. But I don't think he will ever get a low body fat percentage. He has a similar build to Rooney.

I think there’s probably quite a bit of truth in this. I’ve never doubted his quality for one second, he’s a monster when on form and if that form can be kept spinning he’s a massive asset.

If in form, we have two very good first choice fullbacks.

Shaw. They are both great, but Bissaka does one thing better than anyone else and isn’t as hot at the other things where Shaw is really good at a lot of things.

Just look at some of the things Shaw has done lately covering for defensive feck ups, like against Watford where he scurried across. Sensed the danger and got there. Timed it perfectly knowing to leave his man as well. Been a few moments like that as he did one against Liverpool and Chelsea.

I can’t recall seeing those kinds of defensive instincts from Bissaka yet. They are both fantastic at what they do but given Shaw has more strings to his bow I’d go Shaw.

I think he's definitely someone who needs some hand-holding. Martial is a similar case as well. They are two of our biggest talents and they both struggled under Mou. Says alot about the impact of constantly changing of managers.

Shaw overall but he's got a lot more experience behind him.

I wouldn't be comfortable with Bissaka in a back 3 but Shaw fits in there quite easily. He reads the game very well.

Nah, he's just stocky. He will go up in weight now as he gets older.
Ye maybe if he takes it a bit serious he can maintain his weight. It won't effect his speed that much that he is stocky but it will have en effect on his endurance which is already visible now in my opinion

Scholes made me laugh before the game yesterday, BT sport dedicated a section on the form of Luke Shaw and when asked why he felt Luke had been playing well he responded by saying his new inside left position meant he had to run less!!

He then went on to question his professionalism and conditioning.

Huh, AWB does not need to foul? The way he tackles carries high risk in the box. He gave away a penalty earlier just awhile ago just by doing his usual tackle thing.

Overall, Shaw is better but AWB is younger. Shaw's problem always has been his concentration. He does not lack ability to be a good full back.
