Hopefully this improves peoples hygiene. Theres so many dirty bastards around that don't even bother washing their hands after taking a piss, than touch door handles :o
I’ve always said that public toilets should never have hand washing basins in them.

They should be situated just outside of the toilets so everyone can see who walks out of the toilets and washes their hands and who doesn’t and we can publicly shame those that don’t.

Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.
Selfish I know but we’re going on holiday to Mexico in June and I’m starting to dread it being cancelled if this keeps escalating.
All tourist destinations are going to be badly-affected this year. If this had started in October, it might have been a different matter - but people are normally booking their summer hols in Jan and Feb (particularly to European/Med destinations), and it's bound to have a huge impact.

Could they also suspend all the flights from Korea please? I'm leaving Manchester for good on Sunday to return to my home in London which just so happens to have the highest density of Koreans outside of Korea.
Im ok with you stopping them flying if I can stop you coming back to London.

There's always going to be dickheads who refuse to wash their hands after taking a piss or shit in public. What annoys me more is the design of doors to the bathroom in that if the door has to be pulled to get out then this completely defeats the purpose of hand washing because the selfish prick from a minute before has left his pissy prints all over the handle. The door should swing in a way that it has to be pushed going out so you get the option of being able to use to your foot to push it open, which I normally do.
If it’s not possible to push open the door with your shoulders or feet I always grab a sheet of paper to open the germ riddled door.

Define scene?

I turned and said "FFS mate" or something like that. He then tried to justify it on the basis that he couldn't help being sick. I may have then said that I can't help needing a pee from time to time but I generally don't do piss on the person next to me on the tram. He then failed to apologise so I guess I did make a scene for the rest of the journey.

Someone sneezing in your face is even worse. I wouldn't have been impressed.

At least this guy apologised.

One of my big concerns with spreading diseases like this are places like public / restaurant / cinema etc toilets.

I would often be stood drying my hands waiting for someone to open the door so I don’t have to touch the handle knowing how often people don’t wash and then go.

I saw an ad on Facebook for the StepNPull door handle where you use your feet.

https://www.stepnpull.co.uk/

I think this is such a simple but genius idea that could really help with things like this.

(I am neither owner, employee of, or stakeholder in StepNPull)

Just try to avoid public toilets now if at all possible. Pardon the pun but public loos are an absolute cesspits in terms of bacteria.

Has north Korea reported any cases yet?
Haha... highly doubt it even though they get crossings from China, just to stay alive.

Even Indonesia with its tourist hotspots arent reporting any cases AT ALL! To me thats BS. They just dont want to have the spreading of the virus or the reporting of it affect the tourism trade.

Looks like the WHO are saying with unreported mild cases factored in that it's about 1% mortality (they think). That's still a dangerous figure and it'll hit unprepared countries worse sadly.

There are very basic general hygiene rules that you need to follow to avoid the trouble.

1) masks only stops airborne virus.
2) wash your hands constantly
3) Try not to touch your eyes or face if your hands have touched4) some public item/place
4) Try to avoid public gatherings like churches etc.

I live in Singapore and we have been going through the crap for well over two months now. So basically I am past the emotional phase and well into the logical stage where information is there and thus low anxiety levels.

80% of people who get it will only suffer mild symptoms -- usually the younger crowd. We even have had 2 days old infants admitted and discharged just this week. A six-month-old infant was also discharged recently.

The problem is that unknowingly you maybe have spread it to other people who are more vulnerable -- the elderly and those with chronics like the heart or respiratory problems.

You may think you are not culpable but part of the containment strategy and execution is to track all your movements, round up the contact points -- and they do this via the CID/police and now anti-body test kits to connect the dots. You will find out the impact of your callousness at some point if the containment strategy is successful.

Didn't one person have it in North Korea. Was a few pages back.

They quarantined them in their own special way
I think it's just western media talking shit. Listening to Dr.John Campbell on YouTube, and he says that South Korean authorities are tracking North Korea and that they are cremating a lot more than usual. It's hard to see how North Korea wouldn't have any cases when there are border trading with China and people going back and forth.

Having said that its probably easiest to contain in North Korea than any other country on Earth.

Another prime example of just how stupid and dangerous this man is. I don't believe for a moment that he believes this conspiracy nonsense, he's just propagating it for his own Presidential re-election hopes because he's absolutely terrified that the economy tanking will destroy his chances. Ironically, his complete mismanagement of it and cowardly response and cover up is likely to make the actual situation much much worse than it might have been.

Hopefully that's the case and hopefully people who exhibit symptoms are quarantined and not taken out the back and shot like dogs. fecking horrible to even contemplate.

Ive just watched the video of him talking about it. He's definitely not doing any good by saying the virus is being politicised against him. It sets a bad precedent for his support -- they're more likely to take this less seriously now as they hang off every word he says. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

I stopped watching his stuff. Ultimately they need to take a page from how the Singapore Ministry of Health is handling the problem. After 2 months the number of cases is still under a hundred.

Agreed, but little to no hope of that happening with Trump and Pence in charge.

I asked a few people in the frontline here how come its not a larger number (90+ patients only) unlike how its blowing up in South Korea this week -- 354 just last Saturday, now 3,150 -- 813 cases just today.

Its a hockey curve.

Once you get past a critical number, the infrastructure will not be able to support the caseload, then the fatality rates shoot up.

Right now, hospital hygiene is very good. Suspected patients are rounded up and put into home isolation/lockdown. Then each patient will have accounts setup with the local equivalent of deliveroo. Each patient is then provided a care package that consists of two weeks supply of masks, sanitisers, wet wipes, food etc. Then to ensure the patient/suspect stays at home instead of taking it like an enforced holiday and ging out casually, there will be a case manager who will call that suspect randomly. It will be against the law to be caught outside.
They have also started using some anti-body test kit to link up the various cases and clusters of patients.

Also warmer and more humid weather helps. (Not saying it is main reason). And huge part of the South Korea's numbers come from that ****.

That's a very efficient and seemingly effective way of doing things. WHO did say this could be contained -- well like that it could but I mean its unrealistic to think that all countries would take such measures. I don't even think countries in Europe would or could do that.
Thanks for that post though -- very informative.

I have a MOH document on the strategy of containment learnt from the SARs epidemic too if anyone is interested in.

You should post it. Definitely worth knowing. I'll give a read once I cure myself of a horrendous hangover.

To be fair the only reason to wash your hands if you are taking a piss is to take the opportunity to wash off existing bacteria that has built up from touching surfaces. If I could get into and out of a public toilet without touching anything I'd prefer not to wash my hands. Unless I've taken a shit haha!

I'm sure people would love to use the same door handles, vending machine buttons, keyboard and mouse as you when you've been holding your dick and haven't washed your hands.
