Sneaky bum time - Vaccination status: dozed off
Yeah nobody caresWe've already overtaken the points total for the 99 team. In February.
Yeah nobody caresWe've already overtaken the points total for the 99 team. In February.
Looking back at that now, how ridiculous is it they even had the debate? Nevermind Carragher with the cheek to try put Mane in over Giggs the cocky spitter.Keane was right all along. None of these cnuts would make the United 99 team
Only one player has done it twice. The clue is in the two teams above. It's been done by Inter and Barca in their respective leagues which is also an amazing feat.
All hail Niall! This should really put that wum attempt to rest.Nah, that was when the tournament's format was at its peak, less teams and big games right from the beginning. Not the watered down shite it is now which doesn't get interesting until after Christmas. We had Barca and Bayern in our group from the get go!
We had to play Barca (twice), Bayern (3 times), Inter Milan (twice) and Juventus (twice) to win the Champions League back then. Unbeaten in all those games.
Our FA Cup run was bloody tough too - your lot, Chelsea (twice) and Arsenal (twice) en route to the final.
That season was an incredible achievement. Just saying
We actually faced 6 Ballon Dór winners that season.Yeah, the likes of Zidane, Del Piero, Davids, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Shevchenko, Batistuta, Figo, Raul, Nedved were well shite.
Salty as feckIt was a piss weak league and cup teams back then. Europe was really shit, Barca, Milan, Madrid all shit. No Ronaldo or Messi around.
This is incredible considering the teams we played in the second half of the season. And unbeaten in all matches from Boxing Day 1998 to the end of the season. Not too shabby.
This. The longer it goes on with nobody replicating that treble the more it proves how feckin' incredible the achievement was.I said this in another thread, but the treble side lost only 4 times in 63 games in all competitions (PL, FA, LC, UCL) including an unbeaten run to European glory.
Liverpool have already lost 5 in 42 (the maximum amount of games they can play now is about 60). It's highly likely they win 1 trophy, unless they turn it around to win the Champion's League this season as well, they're not even in the argument for best English team over a season or multiple seasons. Although, if they defend their title next season while winning more silverware, I will change my stance on that.
Arsenal's 'invincibles' lost 6 in 58. They didn't defend the title so that is an instant removal for me in regards to best team over a period, regardless of how difficult it is to not lose a game in a Premier League season. Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing record to have, but I think almost everyone would trade a single loss in the PL for another trophy in the same season.
Man City actually defended the title and had two amazing seasons in a row whilst winning other domestic trophies including a 'domestic treble' in one season. I'd have them above the best Liverpool and Arsenal sides in the PL era so far. However, in the 'fewest losses' criteria, they played 60 games both seasons losing 6 & 7 respectively.
I haven't fully looked into Chelsea under Jose the first time but they were incredible. I believe they lost 6 or 7 games in 59 in 04/05 and had that unbelievable defensive record. They also retained the title with ridiculous back to back points totals, but like City didn't get the European success.
The common denominator is that United's treble side played both more games and lost less in all competitions than any other side in the PL era at least and won the three biggest prizes on offer. As well as that, they went on to win the PL title three seasons in a row which has never been done by another side (bar another United side).
There's no debate, really.
Keane did say "let's talk again if Liverpool can fin a few trophies"... guess they wont be having that chatLooking back at that now, how ridiculous is it they even had the debate? Nevermind Carragher with the cheek to try put Mane in over Giggs the cocky spitter.
Not only did he win two, he won them back to back.Only one player has done it twice. The clue is in the two teams above.
Also back then , teams played their strongest 11 in the FA cup. Unlike nowadays. This is incredible considering the teams we played in the second half of the season.
FA Cup
Liverpool
Chelsea x 2
Arsenal x 2
Newcastle
CL
Inter
Juve
Bayern Munich
That team was absolute magic. One for the ages.
And yet, the only thing that matters is the number of trophies you end the season with. We've already overtaken the points total for the 99 team. In February.
Barca players who played in 2009 and 2015 won it twice. Messi, Pique, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Pedro, Dani Alves.Only one player has done it twice. The clue is in the two teams above.
Theyve also played their last FA cup game in March as well. Beats us there again...And yet, the only thing that matters is the number of trophies you end the season with.
It does indeed. Only seems like yesterday when 18-4 was my staple diet. 19-6 (7?) is going to take some digesting. And yet, the only thing that matters is the number of trophies you end the season with.
WOW now that's a thing of beauty, they don't make em' like that anymore, absolute showstopper... The kit is nice as well.We were wearing it, too, back in 2009:
Pep's City are the best PL team as they are the only to have achieved 100 points. We're talking about best team in the PL, not best team in PL and other cups. Last season's Liverpool were clearly better than Chelsea as the points show. Don't know about this season. We could get 102+ points or finish on 89.Mourinho's Chelsea, Pep's City, The Invincibles, and United '99 and United 07/08 are all better than this Liverpool side, let's be honest.
Indeed, your team has to be essentially perfect throughout the entire season, even the tiniest slip up can cost you a trophy.I think people sometimes overlook just how hard it is to win multiple trophies in a season. It takes a lot both physically and mentally and deserves admiration. Only the best sides manage it.
I've already figured that you're trolling from your other posts in this thread.Pep's City are the best PL team as they are the only to have achieved 100 points. We're talking about best team in the PL, not best team in PL and other cups. Last season's Liverpool were clearly better than Chelsea as the points show. Don't know about this season. We could get 102+ points or finish on 89.
Eto’o?Only one player has done it twice. The clue is in the two teams above.
Really? In a thread celebrating the 1998/99 season in which the strongest league in the world at the time had its 7th and 8th best teams in the CL?I dont think the Champio s league has ever been as weak as it has this season. When was the last time barca and real were shit at the same time.
Also at least we had Arsenal as competition in 99. Pool have no competition this year.
How did the 7th and 8th best team qualify for the CL at a time when only the top 2 went in?Really? In a thread celebrating the 1998/99 season in which the strongest league in the world at the time had its 7th and 8th best teams in the CL?
I was young to fully follow that treble season. Although from what I know it was a very close win. Very small margins to actually win it rather than destroying europe and the league.1998-99 was a highly competitive league that was more difficult to win. All the top teams still cared about FA Cup and the latter stages was cut throat action, while Champions league was at a much higher quality level than it currently is, FFS Spurs under overrated manager reached last years final and Liverpool won it which was their first trophy since league Cup in 2012.
I pity the people that weren't old enough to see or remember that Man United treble side. For those like myself that has witnessed it let's be honest we could all live to 100 and not see a better English football team than that 1998-99 Man United team.
I suggest you start acknowledging the slump in form and stop trying to antagonize then. We are allowed to do it to you. There is no meltdown DVG7. This isn't and never has been RAWK or BlueMoon.
The feck does that even mean? This is what annoys be about these debates. They get so ridiculous like this. At the end of the day, Liverpool simply don't have footballers that are as good as football as the other teams being mentioned. Simple.Pep's City are the best PL team as they are the only to have achieved 100 points. We're talking about best team in the PL, not best team in PL and other cups. Last season's Liverpool were clearly better than Chelsea as the points show. Don't know about this season. We could get 102+ points or finish on 89.
Happy fishing, reel em in ladIt was a piss weak league and cup teams back then. Europe was really shit, Barca, Milan, Madrid all shit. No Ronaldo or Messi around.
Eto'o back to back. He would have been on top of the world.Only one player has done it twice. The clue is in the two teams above.
This is even funnier with subtitles onIt was from this disasterpiece:
They finished 7th in serie A that season. Inter finished 8thHow did the 7th and 8th best team qualify for the CL at a time when only the top 2 went in?
Or maybe you're twisting things to under value Utd's achievements?
That Juventus team was absolutely brilliant. One of the best sides of the 90's. To try and make them out as the 7th best team in Italy - to be worse than the likes of Fiorentina and Udinese - is just basic wumming & you know it.
They can still win the CL and the PL this season. So back to back CL winners will be a great achievement and would mean 3 back to back finals as well.Liverpool are having a fantastic season and worthy winners of the League, but not a patch on many previous winners, you need to win more than just the League in a season to be classed as one of the best PL teams, then you need to defend the League whilst winning other trophies to be one of the great teams, then to be up with the 2 or 3 beat teams of the PL era you need to win a CL whilst also winning trophies. 1 season trophy winners just don't cut it.
You do realise that it’s going to be number 19 right? I’m happy with that. tick Hopefully this banter is going on at the same time next season with 20 lined up. 19-6 of course will be the benchmark but 20-6/7 just really puts the cherry on top. tockAnd yet, the only thing that matters is the number of trophies you end the season with.
Who do you think you are talking to here son. You're a new member for a reason so wind your neck in when you're speaking to Caf royalty in the future.@Dumbstar which forum are you going to after Niall deletes you into oblivion? Need to know incase we run out of salt because of coronavirus.
