I honestly can't see a way out of this without military curfew style measures unless we just let several million die. People in europe dont like being told what to do, but then at the same expect to be safe from crime and get treated when you go to the hospital, and get rescued when their building catches fire.

Can't have it both ways, there is a social contract that you need to adhere to.

Edit, actually from yessterday
France 3661 79 deaths

Spain 5232 133 deaths.

I thought Spain was 5700 last night

What worldmeters do for Spain and not others is add more throughout the evening as if they get continual updates after the official one for a few hours.

Shelves are emptying quickly in my local SuperValu. I live in village of about 5,000. Fairly middle class area and doesn't stop from people hoarding I guess.

Now we’re sitting here talking about it, we’re noticing how quiet the road is. We usually moan about the volume of traffic.

It is eerie. We’re in strange times eh?
Yeah, it's not nice is it mate?

For us it's weird cuz we've got a 7 year old who's just buzzing around everywhere completely oblivious, and a month old newborn who obviously requires a lot of time and attention.

Neither of them (thankfully) have any notion of what's going on with this (yet), so it's weirdly draining trying to keep the energy levels up for them.

At the same time, we're insanely grateful for them being here.

I'm also really, really angry at how older / unwell people are being talked about like meaningless stats everywhere as part of this 'strategy'.

Obertans #1 fan.
Is there any truth to the rumours there’s a lot of xenophobia in Italy now towards overweight foreigners with obvious Respiratory issues?

If so, any reports on Lukaku?

I agree, a lot of older people I know are feeling very upset about it and that’s on top of the fear they have. This is not a good time to feel old and vulnerable.

It's a bit hit and miss. Not everyone in the 20 person Brazilian delegation that travelled to the US tested positive. Even if you assume they lied about the Brazilian president's test being negative, the rest of the people have been a mix of positive and negative tests. So you can't count on it 100%.
I think you’d be surprised how successfully you can stop the spread of disease in close contact if you are really careful and preferred. This is where FPP3 masks are most valuable if infected and healthy people have to be in close proximity for a while.
Ok, cheers lads. Perhaps it's not as much of a certainty as i originally thought. Although you'd have to assume given his age and health he'd be in piss poor shape if he did get it.

Will see. Spanish government just said that will strictly enforce the lockdown and travelling with be forbidden besides emergencies and work from tomorrow. But a whole weekend just happened with LOTS of stupid people visiting places outside madrid and barcelona as to say: " Well, is the last time before we can go for a while" and I sort of hope is their last time, feckwits.

Will see how they will enforce that. My guess is that it will be Guardia Civil controls, but will see how tight they will be
Agree, it's a shitshow. I am lucky in some ways, live alone, don't have to work, saw what was coming weeks ago and whilst i didn't stockpile I changed the stuff I bought to longer life foods. For what it's worth, GC are pretty strict here generally, but I'm next to a drugs hotspot.

Yeah mate.

I've been thinking about things to do to help, but because of isolation being so important it's difficult really.

I used to visit an old folks home near me and do voluntary music for them (playing guitar) and just chatting and having a laugh, but obviously you can't go near them at the moment.

I just don't want them to feel alone, scared and unwanted, I want them to know that they matter and aren't being cast away during this.

after this weekend I think people will start taking it seriously when the death toll will rise and will "touch" someone these feckwits knows. Somepeople only learn the hard way.

You stay save brother

we’re doing shopping online for a few of the elderly’s on our street. There’s a big elderly population in our village and some are very good to us so we’re trying to help where we can but we’re also very wary of going round now.

Someone on my IG has just gone bowling FFS.
Chuckled at this when I was reading this thread earlier...just seen on FB a group of mates have gone to a trance all nighter in Coalville! For anyone who's ever been there it's a very bleak and weird town (near Leicester) so guess that's one way of bowing out from social events for next few months!

Fat Duck fecked - eaten there a couple of times, never on an evening (impossible back then to get a table, but still shows how everything will be affected)

At the Fat Duck we have always prided ourselves on providing the very best experience for our guests and in these uncertain times we remain committed to doing just that. We are listening to official advice, taking all the precautions necessary and following all appropriate guidelines and procedures.

It’s a difficult time though and like many of your local restaurants, we’ve been hit by cancellations from guests who can no longer travel to be with us. We are however, open as usual, and we’d love your support in helping us keep the local economy running. We invite you to consider joining us over the coming weeks and as a thank you for your support, we are offering £75 off our usual ticket price for bookings before the end of April. Please ring our reservation team +44 (0)1628 367584 (Monday through Friday) or click on the link below to book and we look forward to seeing you soon.
