The side effects of this are going to be insane. Isolation and economic issues are necessary/unavoidable at this point. It will cause so many problems with mental health (I was already at a low point but now even worse) and suicides.

Also the people who can no longer get medical help because their issues are no longer priority/as important. But those could lead to deaths. A lack of medical equipment means there genuinely may be a point where doctor's have to choose who to save.

The geopolitical fallout could be huge as well. Finger pointing maybe down the line, some countries failing economically etc.

To get the economy back up and running to the levels we need I imagine will be tough (I don't know much about how it works so could be wrong)

Either way, I can't now see this being blown over and be nothing more than a pub quiz question in 2 years like hoped.
Imagine being in confinement with someone who abuses me physically and mentally.

Has China even found patient zero? Considering they seem to find everyone, I find it hard to believe they cannot find him. I am sure a few million people in the world would like a quiet word with him.

I think people in the UK have a deeply ingrained 'It won't happen to me' attitude.

That is a dangerous and selfish approach towards this.
As I've mentioned elsewhere, I can't help feeling that living under the constant threat of terrorist atrocities for the past 50 years, coupled with the extremely long odds of actually being caught up in one, have helped create a weird mix of Keep Calm And Carry On and Nah I'll Be OK among a large part of the population.

Would it do any good at this point?

Here in Croatia we have just over 200 confirmed cases, yet people are fecking idiots when it comes to following main rule- stay at home!!

Yesterday I've gone out to get groceries and medicaments for an eldery lady (89y old, lives alone at 5th floor) and parks, school and church playground was filled with people playing sports, just casual talking or in some instance drinking coffee on benches.

Human ignorance and stupidy at its finest.

What are the chances that the virus has mutated in Italy? The mortality rate there is insane.

What it seems you won't do, is retort to any of the points I made to you, on a essay that required of me nearly 30 minutes of my time, hundreds of hours of studying this pandemic, and tens of thousands of hours of professional knowledge.
You lack any credibility and so does what you posted.

A couple of hours ago you was adamant that the Chinese government were unaware of the virus in Wuhan until Jan. You even deleted a post... now you realise that this isn’t the case, or more likely more people then you can silence are aware of the reality you post something different. And say” it’s hundreds of hours of studying this pandemic, and tens of thousands of hours of professional knowledge.”
Please provide a source and links. Also what you posted doesn’t change the facts.

I think we'd have heard by now or not? Probably just a higher rate of elders among the infected.

Why is it so concentrated in the north of Italy? I'm not hearing much reporting on the south of the country.
Bad luck. The first cases were likely to have been carried by tourists coming out of China. After that, it was a case of butterflies flapping wings.

Maybe tourist A went to London. She tried to watch an Arsenal match but was unable to get a ticket. Instead she went to Kew Gardens and walked about for a bit. Infected nobody, then went home.

Maybe tourist B went to Milan. He went to the San Siro and used the handrails all the way to his seat. Infected 2,000 fans, then went home.

It could have just as easily kicked off first in Berlin or Paris. The north Italians happen to have got the shitty end of the stick through no particular fault of their own (or anybody else's).

Local shops near me offering discounts on facebook. sport shop Offering 50% off all Adidas today and Sunday only.

Guess they’re anticipating being closed soon but it’s madness enticing people there and all mingling. I dread to think how busy it’s been.

According to the wales Online My local hospital has more cases than the rest of wales combined too.

People scare me

I suspect the cultural habit of ciao ciao double cheek kiss from unbeknown carriers played a huge part in the early and dramatically quick spreading .

I don't know why he said it that way but a virologist at Montpellier CHU said a week ago that it was conceivable that the chinese and italian strains were different, due to the evolutive nature of coronaviruses.

I think we'd have heard by now or not? Probably just a higher rate of elders among the infected.
We know about at least two different strains. One named S-Strain and the other L-Strain. I don't know more about it.

It’s where the testing is mainly being done. You’ve got regions in the north though with a third of people testing positive, but only a small of population being tested. See Piemonte, Marche and Liguria. This is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Here’s the latest figures by region: http://www.salute.gov.it/imgs/C_17_pagineAree_5351_26_file.pdf

Went out for a walk with my family earlier and there were a lot of people out walking and jogging today. Seen quite a few people on social media lambasting people going outside, surely there's nothing wrong going out on a walk with people you live with?

The trains were empty this afternoon (West Yorkshire). Normally they'd be packed on a Saturday afternoon with people going/returing from shopping in Leeds or Bradford.

I dread to think what's gonna happen in Africa. There is possibility of having thousands and thousand dying everyday
Don’t forget Asia. Countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Philippines etc will not be able to cope if it spreads like wildfire there. Would be worse than Italy.

Trump just blamed China more and said “if we would have had a 2 or 3 month warning on this we could have been more prepared”

That’s when you were calling it a hoax, you orange cnut!

Of course, you're right. I mentioned Africa because that's where I'm at the moment. The world will change forever after this

Mods/Staff can we have a tweet and media only version of this thread as well like the Transfer one. Sometimes there are 10+ pages and not enough time to go through it all.

Trump is a cnut who did not take this seriously. At the same time, China deserves every blame they get. One thing I agree with Trump is that this is the Chinese coronavirus. If they acted like any normal state and didn’t arrest doctors and do a cover-up, the world would not have suffered.

It's not the sources themselves, it's how they are chosen. That's what you find when you google something like "chinese cover-up of coronavirus". Do you think this is a reasonable way of informing yourself? You're entering yourself into an echo-chamber if you approach any subject that way.

And then people approach them without context. Yes, it may very well be true that local health officials destroyed samples of the virus, but does that really goes against anything I've said? Dozens of labs would have been studying that virus, I expect (it's genome was still known almost immediately after that), and it falls under the umbrella of the many "mistakes" I pointed above. Scared and stupid officials afraid of the consequences of an outbreak and in denial. In the end, how can you calculate the difference it made in the end? A few days?

As for wet markets, what I've read is that they were made illegal a few years ago, but these restrictions were slowly eased-up due to lobbying. I am not sure of this, but t's what I remember.

Yes, it's a feck up, they clearly miscalculated the risk of these markets. But we're all blaming them in hindsight, it's like becoming anti-nuclear only after Chernobyl.
I saw many legit links posted about that story about that doctor, and yet you are pretty sure it's fake news. I don't know why you keep insisting it's a fake news. This is not the first virus that came out of China, and this one looks it will cause more damage outside the China more than to them themselves. It will actually make China even stronger than before by the looks of it. It seems like your anger towards the European goverment is making you ignore the China's fault, which is 100% in this case. I criticised the UK goverment many times here, but I am not sure do you understand how hard is to make a decision to do a full lockdowns in this age.

You remind me of people in football forum who blame the keeper for not making great save after his defender passes the ball to an opposition forward and say that the blame is partly on the keeper who didn't react well. I like you as a poster, but I have no idea why you keep defending China over this.

Was thinking about this in slums across the entire planet. I have no idea how slum dwellers are meant to implement perfect hygiene protocols, social/physical distancing and self isolation.

When Convid19 reaches the huge slums of the Africa, Asia and Latin America, it will spread faster than wildfire, and then move very very quickly into the fancy neighbourhoods and beyond. At that point, no amount of bribery, ass kissing, influence or power will be able to save any person. For once, the 'haves' will really have to help the 'have nots', else they are all doomed.

My only hope is that these people who have had to live their entire lives in unhygienic areas have developed the strongest immune systems on the planet. Its just my hope, and I hope I'm right, else when the final math is done on who died, it will be the poorest of the poor, who had nothing to do with its creation.

The fake news is doctors being arrested. Not what happened with Li Weilang, which is very well documented.

 where the feck is the 8000 beds in the private sector?
BUPA, Spire, Nuffield across the UK must add up to quite a few and many rent NHS hospital sites as well, primarily for surgical procedures
