Human nature is a feeble justification though. Chauvin was presumably emotionally charged when he murdered Floyd - going the same route in striking out at what we see around us is advancing nothing. It's human nature - when we're angry, we strike out at what we see around us.
This, too:
Tuned out the moment I read that.“I’m tired of this racism angle.” Is a great way to start a post.
Not going to lie, I’m actually crying after watching that.Tweet

Tough watch (and not just because the lack of social distancing is freaking me out) Your heart really does break for them.
We are not at weird point in human history, you will be hard pressed to find actual examples in history where dialogue has done anything when people have diametrical viewpoints, that's why history is littered with revolutions, insurrections, civil wars and riots. In a state of moderation the Have don't care about the Have Not, they never did and never will. I will simply share this quote from MLK because it shows you how nothing has changed even when moderation has been tried.Human nature is a feeble justification though. Chauvin was presumably emotionally charged when he murdered Floyd - going the same route in striking out at what we see around us is advancing nothing.
I know you weren't 'justifying' anything, that comment is directed at those rioting.
We are at a weird point in human history in that dialogue to advance a position is nearly impossible when you have diametrically opposed viewpoints. Regardless of what side of an argument you are on when it comes to societal issues, you will always find vocal support for your views online and that support will cause you to double down.
Moderates do not exist in the same way they used to. A lot of people who see themselves as liberal are anything but, both sides are effectively the same as each other.
America is a melting point for this - it is an absolute mess of a country and there is almost no way out. Hence anger, hence violence.
I will also share the following because to some extent I agree with MLK with the small caveat that riots can bring changes but you need to go extremely far and people generally don't have the stomach for that which leads to the worsening of their conditions due to the tarnishing of their own image, if you riot and don't turn the system upside down you lost more than you would have if you did nothing.Certain conditions continue to exist in our society, which must be condemned as vigorously as we condemn riots. But in the final analysis, a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it that America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the plight of the Negro poor has worsened over the last few years. It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice, equality and humanity. And so in a real sense our nation’s summers of riots are caused by our nation’s winters of delay. And as long as America postpones justice, we stand in the position of having these recurrences of violence and riots over and over again. Social justice and progress are the absolute guarantors of riot prevention
Let me say as I've always said, and I will always continue to say, that riots are socially destructive and self-defeating. I'm still convinced that nonviolence is the most potent weapon available to oppressed people in their struggle for freedom and justice. I feel that violence will only create more social problems than they will solve. That in a real sense it is impracticable for the Negro to even think of mounting a violent revolution in the United States. So I will continue to condemn riots, and continue to say to my brothers and sisters that this is not the way. And continue to affirm that there is another way.
I thought it was weird from the original bit of cctv that was released where they had him handcuffed against the wall and two officers moved him, but went right past police car they could've put him into. The guy was at no point resisting.OMG
So they first took turns to beat the crap out of him in the car, and then kneecranked him to death after that?
That’s surely first degree murder and the death sentence right there?
I don't even think that it's something new in America, from what I've seen in the UK (there may be videos showing different) but the dogs are supposed to let go once a person is no longer trying to get away. I America I've seen quite a few videos where the dog is just tearing into someone and the officer does nothing to stop it.Tweet

I doubt it, it's already an open war, the authority are a "feck you" away from showing their true faceThe sooner they convict Chauvin of murder the better. It runs a lot deeper than Floyd but the masses will want someone to ‘pay’ for the latest in a long line of police brutality.
Based on these being the most extreme blm riots we’ve seen to date, I just can’t see him not being prosecuted with an opportunity to make an example of him and make other bigots in uniform think twice.
These guys are boring as feck. They don't do anything or seem to be dealt with quick

The ones making these videos need to shut the feck up, and let the actual hackers do their work. This self promotion is incredibly irritating. These guys are boring as feck. They don't do anything or seem to be dealt with quick
The irony here is you see exactly the same excitement from the rioters. Both sides will continue to ramp this up and plenty of genuine people will suffer losses as a result.Tweet

That's awful to watch. Not sure why he had a sword or what the backstory is but he is most certainly going to die or at the very least be brain damaged. This needs to stop.Tweet

To be fair I think anyone would swing indiscriminately when you're fearing for your life. Not sure theres much to be outraged about here given the context of what else is going on. Fortunately the genuine protesters stepped in to prevent anyone being seriously injured at the end. That cooter punch from the policeman at 38s. Just swinging indiscriminately
That is fantastic! If the protest is peaceful the police should be working alongside their communities to help facilitate it.Tweet

There is an expectation and perception that police, who are trained and paid to control their emotional responses to some degree, should represent and protect the people. They look like they are actively positioning themselves as the enemy at the moment. The irony here is you see exactly the same excitement from the rioters. Primarily they're hackers so if there's anything they can hack then they'll be able to do something. These guys are boring as feck. They don't do anything or seem to be dealt with quick
Precisely! That fecking lunatic needs locking up
Just saw that. Cops in America are truly showing their true colours.
Jesus christ. Imagining going out your front door and hearing the people who supposed to protect you say "light them up". fecking hell.
Sorry about the size. Just click on the bottom part of the video, below the stupid sponsor thing.

This needs much more airtime however I suspect it will get none. I've seen other examples of police chiefs taking a knee and standing within peaceful protests too. The only way to force a change within a system is when the system itself acknowledges this and stands up for what is right. It also sends a powerful message to the White House which simply can't be ignored.Tweet

Of course but you must remember that everyone is human. Some emotions you can't control and everyone has different ways of coping and getting through stressful incidents when they are scared. There is an expectation and perception that police, who are trained and paid to control their emotional responses to some degree, should represent and protect the people. They look like they are actively positioning themselves as the enemy at the moment.
You're replying to a genuine conspiracy theorist, you're not going to get anywhere with him.Are you suggesting that racism isn't really a thing and that african americans don't for a majority have a reason to protest? Do you think that someone told cops and civilians around the US to lynch, batter, kill or discriminate black people for a reason that isn't racism but something else and that this person/institution is centuries old?
"But the rioters are just as bad"The irony here is you see exactly the same excitement from the rioters. Both sides will continue to ramp this up and plenty of genuine people will suffer losses as a result.

This whole thing is a complete disaster for the United States. The country is already being ravaged by Covid-19 and this will make the virus spread quicker and further. The countries economy is already in bits and I dread to think what this will do to it. The genuine and legitimate protests have been ambushed by criminals who are now killing people and destroying millions of dollars worth of property. As a result the police ramp up their behaviour and it won't be long, if it's not happened already, that deaths take place in high numbers.
After such sacrifice you have to hope something happens to force change in the country but I fear it will likely make the race divide deeper and also push the rich and the poor further and further away from one another.
