I saw an Italian football fan on this site rubbishing this alleged salary and saying it was much lower in reality. Is there any confirmation of this at all?

There’s absolutely no way he’s on £400,000 and I’ll tell you why...

There is simply no need.

I think the case is lower tax for him in Italy, meaning his salary, including sign-on maybe (?), would equal £400 000 in UK.

Nobody needs to pay £400k per week to sign Aaron Ramsay on a free transfer. All these people who think that free transfers get a signing on fee the equivalent of what a transfer fee would be are insane. For a start that would negate the whole point of free transfers.

Yeah, wages in Italy are apparently reported after tax. What’s likely happened is Ramsay’s wage is reported around £200k and ignorant journalists have assumed a tax rate of 50% like here and just added that on making it £400k.

Or just regurgitate the most mental thing they read on forums. Probably that actually.

So true. As long as they keep winning the league they will never receive the same scrutiny as a team like United. I think we should always view their transfers through this prism when making comparisons.
Yeah. Just looking at last three seasons and Juve's expensive signings (big transfer fee and/or wages) then all these guys pretty much failed there: Lemina, Pjaca, Higuain, Benatia, Ramsey, Danilo, Rabiot, Demiral. However there's little competition in Italy, no nonsense from Daily Mail so it's fine and people say they're 'well run'.

Well you would be the ITK of the summer if this came to anything so I will reserve judgement.

Anyone else worry that Grealish could end up not fulfilling his talent and go like Morrison or is that just a completely ridiculous thought.
He seemed a bit cocky so I wondered if it was a bit of exaggeration (although you’d think just being a Premier League footballer would be enough to impress people!)

Players usually get bigger wages because theyre waiting out their contract for one club and are rewarded for doing so.
There were articles at the time claiming Juve were downplaying the number to kill any unrest in the dressing room so I wouldnt believe their side neither. Apparently its dressed up in signing in bonuses etc

If there was a race, we would win because of the wages we can offer. The decision mostly lies with the player and the club he wants to join.

We could offer Dortmund £100m and Liverpool offer the same but if he wants to join Liverpool he will go there. If it comes down solely money, we will win the race.

Problem is, the marriage where someone marries for money is rarely a happy marriage....

A ridiculous thought obviously? Grealish has already done more in the game, had a better career and proven himself more. Grealish may not go on to be brilliant at a top club, but the comparison seems daft to me.

This - Grealish has played over 200 matches at the age of 24. He is a captain of a Premier League-side - you could argue that he has had a great career already.

Not really.. Not even considering his supposed crazy wages.

He isnt that good.. None of the top sides in the premier league would want him. Arsenal are probably the only "big" side that would consider starting him.
Actually, he might get into the spurs XI.. but there is no way that deal happens.
When he’s fit he’s one of the top 10 midfielders in British football.
He’s not even turned 30 yet and people are saying “at his age”
His wages are prohibitive but I think he may have the sense to realise nobody will be paying that amount anymore post Covid.
United are long term suitors. He could fit in at Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, or even the likes of Everton and Leicester.
He’s a good player with a good reputation but had two things going against him, injuries and wages. But they are not insurmountable

You my it sound like they are both 30 odd and both at risk of not fulfilling potential!
They both have time IF they want to move on. If they don’t I’m sure they will both have very good careers at their respective clubs

Grealish is pretty accomplished in the English game when it comes to his contribution in his playing career. He's established himself in the championship and now has performed very well in the prem and also a captain.

He'd be an excellent signing so long as his mentality is correct when transitioning. Morrison has never got any momentum going outside of the youth ranks and being older than Grealish it's not really a realistic comparison. Unless Morrison can galvanise himself in the next five years he will have had a woeful career and considering how highly he's been regarded for his talent it's a really sad story definitive of the faults in his character.

This. I don't understand why people cant see this. Not like throwing money in recent years worked out well for us.

The way it's worded I'm not sure if it means we are looking at those players as options instead of Sancho or as well as Sancho.
It's as well as Sancho. I'm guessing the so much tied in Pogbas future part means we want to get one more cteator - Havertz Grealish or VdB because Pogba 'might' leave in the future

He presumably means that we are pursuing Sancho, but will only go after Havertz/Grealish/VdB, if Pogba is getting sold.

Yep that's how I read it.

Do people not find it strange that Pogba transfer news and his camp have gone unusually quiet? There is a possibility that we may have already agreed a sale but have told the other parties to keep their mouth shut until we bring in his replacement.

Agreement to leave the following summer like we clearly made with Ronaldo in 2008?

Yep, but I think the agreement was made last year to let Pogba go this summer given his contract runs out in 2022.

Time will tell....

Who would folk prefer if you were to choose one of those midfielders. Havertz or Grealish or Van De Beek?

Worrying there is a lack of targeting a CB with pace to partner Maguire and still nothing at all on a proper DM which we badly need.

Article certainly suggests that only Sancho will be signed this summer unless Pogba leaves.

If we keep Pogba and Sancho was the only summer signing that we make then I’d be very happy. First time I could say for a very long time, probably since Sir Alex’s retirement that we have a nice, well balanced team. RW badly needs addressed this summer and if we were to ignore it yet again then God knows when it will end up being addressed.

Yeah I’d like another CB but it isn’t an area that is screaming out badly to be strengthened or one that should take up majority of our budget.

I’ve been crying out for a defensive midfielder like a Partey or Zakaria but I just can’t see it now as I believe Ole may convert either McTominay or Fred as our long term DM or even slowly integrate James Garner into the team.

Nah, we'd be hearing much more media talk, these people can be quiet but not that quiet if he was going to be leaving very soon. Just can't see him going this summer now.

The virus led crash means that there's no way in hell anyone offers the amount we'd need to sell.

Have to hope next summer has seen a huge recovery or we'll face a massive loss.

Admittedly I don't know much about Havertz, but between the other two I'd take Grealish, I think he has the character, quality, and is PL-hardened already, which really matters. Van de Beek is very good but I see him as a cog in a style, whereas I see Grealish as sticking his chest out and therefore fitting Man Utd a bit better. So much hype about Havertz but I haven't seen him play.

His value will only going to drop if we don't sell him this summer as his contract finishes in 2022, I don't think we can afford nor to take any risks of him running down his contract for the 2nd time.

Difficult to say at this stage as we don't even know what the market will be like this summer.

No-one will be splashing out 100m this summer, especially not on a guy who has just spent 6months out.

We're probably better off keeping him for 2 years and losing for nothing then selling way under price, say 30-40m.

However, you know how these agents are - I wouldn't rule out some magic happy all round new contract job, that boosts his wage up. Players very rarely sit out their deals still - they'll take the money now in most cases.

Well if that's your expectation of how the market will be like this summer then fair enough but I personally don't see it happening.

Worst case scenario we should be able to sell him for around 70-80m IMO

Feel like we should pay more attention to this. There has been a debate on whether VdB/Grealish are being targeted as Pogba's replacement or as solid squad options. This is a very reliable journalist saying those players are dependent on Pogba's future

Cheers guys, makes sense, wasn't sure with the wording, the thing with all 3 of those players is that the base of midfield will still be short, Van der Beek is the only one that I'd class as a CM right now.

Yeah what confuses me is all of Grealish VdB and Havertz are 10s/attacking midfielders. Meanwhile Pogba is a box to box. If the plan is to get one of them because Pogba might be leaving then it doesn't really make sense to spend money on a 10 when who you are replacing in the future is a box to box. We already have a 10 in Bruno, Pogba's replacement should be someone like Saul or a DM even since Fred and Mctominay is already a box to box

There's nothing sudden about it. Been written on the wall for a while. Maybe they meant the club he's leaving for but phrased it wrongly, dunno.
It's very sudden. Looked certain to sign a new deal after being linked with a move away before. It was reported that he changed his mind and his priority was to stay at PSG. Now it looks like he has changed his mind again.
