I heard one rumour about Rennes wanting to buy Tomori, but I've not heard a single Chelsea source even hint at the possibility of us selling him. All the talk has been centered about sending him on loan, which would be good for him. Rennes finished 3rd last season. They'll play in the CL next season. Not a terrible destination for him to gain experience at the highest level.

I am. Thiago Silva is a top tier defender and that's something that Chelsea were a shambles at last year. If they could sort that out, we will have a battle on our hands with them next year.
Hopefully you're correct and it's a loan, thought we might be able to give him quite a few minutes anyway though given insane fixture list this season.

We were calamitous at the back defending set pieces, crosses and corners. Also looked generally disorganized. An older, highly experienced CB should certainly help those things.
He'll 100% need to have the right sort of personell around him, though. Zouma is our quickest and most mobile CB so I'm going to guess he'll be Silva's primary partner should we sign him.
Plus, Kante missed literally 50% of the last season. Having him healthy would help a 36 year old defender. I don't see any downsides to this move. Stopgap until buying Rice or Upamecano next summer.
I would consider only Ramsey but he is injury prone. Costa and Bernard - no thanks.
