It's ridiculous to think Maguire would actually assault a police officer. The Police statement effectively reads like a police cover-up in that the officers didn't like some comments and then pre-empted a violent arrest. Greek authorities are as corrupt as you can get.
Yes they are.

I'm sure you didn't mean any offence but drawing parallels between the two discussions is patently silly and in bad taste.

By your own reckoning we should probably wait for more information until we pass judgement on the police officers involved shouldn't we? There's nothing to say the police involved didn't just do there job diligently, no one has even made that claim expect our own fans whilst ironically saying we don't know enough to judge Maguire. Saying it must just be the police being corrupt is like saying he must be guilty because british lads abroad always do this.

It's this biased bullshit that ended up with Liverpool fans wearing those t-shirts and Liverpool supports loyally defending Suarez claiming no evidence.
If this took place in an English seaside town, I'd agree with the point you're making. But it occurred in a foreign country, which changes things a bit. Your skin colour becomes irrelevant if police know you're a foreigner, which they probably presume in a resort town like Mykonos.

While we should wait for more information, we have plenty of evidence that police everywhere frequently respond to any resistance or questioning with a heavy hand. We do not have any evidence to suggest Harry Maguire would start beating up cops. Based on this, I'm happy to give him the benefit of the doubt and not nail him to the wall as some posters are doing.

Him playing for Leicester probably wasn't used to all the fuss, joke aside I agree, very poor judgement, he seem like a genuinely nice fella, probably not used to the high life as such! Also all those people crowding, not exactly the brightest thing to do in a pandemic with so short time to start overall not exactly captain choices any of these!
Yeah. I usually agree with sentiments about young players deserving the chance to socialise and mix etc, they are people after all. But when all we've been hearing is about how exhausted our players seem to be more than most, surely he might have considered a different type of break than a crowded spot where we can assume he's been having a fair few. 3 weeks until new season. I always find myself contrasting to what Ronaldo, for example, might be doing

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
I’ve already pinged it on a couple of WhatsApp groups too :D

I did say I lifted from the Caf!
I hope I'm credited! There's more where that came from ;)

I ignored it at first because I didn’t think you could pull it off, but kudos fine sir.
To resist the Rhyme Animal is futile I tell you.

I repeat myself. If he made the right judgement and stayed in UK in this pandemic time, nothing would have happened. As if UK don't have nice places you can have your vacation.

The news coming out from various sites about what might have happened is even worse than what I thought. And IF it is correct I stand by taking captains armband from him and that club wouldn't be wrong to discuss his future.

In Efsyn, which is one of the biggest daily newspapers in Greece, they have two Maguire stories.

Some key pieces:

Sounds pretty damn serious.

On a lighter note, you just know that Maguire trying to run away and being caught is going to be turned into a meme.
Sounds like a lot of holes in that story. You dont swing for a police officer and then be asked to follow them to the police station in a taxi. I still reckon everybody involved knew exactly who he was and sniffed an opportunity.

Greek authorities are as corrupt as anywhere in the world. He'll be out as soon as some expensive lawyers grease the right palms.

Yeah, not buying the police statement. No one just starts wailing on cops out of the blue.

What likely happened is that some insults were thrown, the cops got physical and an altercation ensued.
As much as no one should be making presumptions on Maguire’s guilt, isn’t it equally unfair to do so for the Greek authorities?

I’ll never understand why some people get violent and aggressive when drinking AND continue to do it. I’m not saying Maguire is one of these, but clearly some of these idiots are.

It’s supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable, guys.

Yeah not automatically assuming Maguire is without guilt but the Greek police version of the story seems prepped to be sold to tabloids. That's not how a professional police force would report on an incident.

Greece is not on the restricted list, and he was within his right to go there.

This is also a good time to mention that Eric Cantona karate kicked a football fan in the face DURING a game, and most of us want a statue of the man outside Old Trafford

So you know, everyone should sit reeeal still in the boat here.
Are you fecking serious?

I doubt you even have a clue about the matthew simmons incident yet you say he kicked him in the face...

I am not saying Maguire is innocent - but I would feel more convinced of his guilt if this had been the police in another country than Greece.

Exactly. He won’t have been following his pre-season training plan and diet today or tomorrow for sure. Ronaldo is a great example of total dedication to his career, but you can add most Raiola clients there too.

Like I said, we have more evidence to support the notion that the police were either heavy handed or are embellishing their account of events. We have no evidence that suggests Harry Maguire is going to start swinging at cops for no reason.

Happy to wait for the truth to come out but in the meantime I'll give the benefit of the doubt to the person who has maintained an otherwise squeaky clean image versus police in the second most corrupt country in the EU.

What evidence is that? That a Greek police have a reputation for corruption? That’s as relevant as the fact that Brits have a reputation for violence abroad. Surely each isolated incident should be judged on its on merits. This thread smells like hypocrisy.

Seriously? After all the BLM protests and defund the police now we’re having sympathy for one of the most corrupt police forces on the European continent over one of our own players? Redcafe is a weird place.
