Quality player but blew it tonight. Only 21 though and he's already played in the two biggest finals in the world, winning the bigger one of the two arguably. He'll learn from this and be better for it.

Imagine the Rashford performance thread after serving up that.

This isn't meant as a criticism of Mbappe. It's pointing out the over the top vitriol towards United players on here.
Think about what Martial got after the Sevilla game.

Mbappe is still a hell of a player. His pace is truly explosive with a ton of skill. He won a WC as a teenager as a starter. Sucks he plays in such a non-challenging league.

Bad first touch and shockingly bad decision making at times. Can't operate if not given tons of space. Still a great player though

He should have buried that chance.

Wasn't at it, but then again no PSG midfielder/attacker was either.

0 goals vs Dortmund,Atalanta,Leipzig and Bayern.

0 goals in the knockout stage in a year where they reached the final, that's gotta be noted.

Whats the consensus on him in France? As a top striker he hasnt had many moments in CL that puts him up there in the elite imo. I dont see the difference maker unless he has miles of space work with.

He won them the game against Atalanta despite not scoring. His impact off the bench was crucial.
Neymar was by far the best player in that game and both Marquinhos and Choupo-Moting were more decisive than him.
He missed 1 on 1s against Atalanta too.
Can't say this is a great UCL campaign from him

Turning into a kick and run merchant. He needs to be challenged more to develop his game properly, he has it too easy in France.

He literally put it on a plate for Choupo Moting to score.

Neymar was also good in that game but missed massive chances, particularly the one in the first minutes. Mbappe came on and really stretched Atalanta and created things despite not really being fit. They threw him on as a gamble and it paid off.

He hasn't looked 100% fit in any of the last 3 games, some intelligent play from him tonight but also his technique let him down on many instances.

He was rushed back from a 3-6 week ankle injury to play those games. Under normal circumstances he'd have gotten longer to rehabilitate the injury and sharpen up ahead of returning to action. Most players who are rushed back ahead of schedule look rusty upon their return. We see it every two years at World Cups and Euros, and it's particularly challenging for strikers to come back firing full cylinders - look how long the likes of Kane and Rooney have taken to find their finishing after any lay-off. And even then he came off the bench against Atalanta to almost single-handedly turn the game around.

Yeah, something getting overlooked here with all the bottle comments
Keeper error imo. All the same its a nothing strike from 25 yards, its not something you hold your bottle with.
The talent is there but how many big games does he play a season? V Lyon when 15 points clear? V Juve in the group stages?
Its no surprise that most of his big moments comes from his Monaco days, when he had to he on it every week. He needs to move to a side that has that again or he'll be an expensive Verratti from here on out

What do people think, is it possible that a player struggles to progress quickly, in a zero pressure league? We've heard how continually playing in the reserve league does no good for a player's progression. Is this any different?

Just a speed merchant.

Teams have worked him out.

The French Wallcott
At least Daniel James can cross from the right. Mbappe was all about fancy running with no real output tonight.
I wouldn't be surprised if the "Time to burst Rashford's bubble" thread got bumped if Rashford dared to have such a performance like Mbappe did.

Possibly the most pointless stats post. What is there to be noted? He's world class, one of the best players in the world and every single team in the world would take him. He would walk into any side.

Eh..Ronaldo Nazario had a terrible final in 2002 (missed some easy chances) before Kahn fumbled Rivaldo's shot into his path. No one cares about that now, he scored in the biggest final, as has Mbappe. He's 21 and hasn't been fully fit the past few weeks

Worrying signs to be honest. Kid looked incredible at Monaco, almost felt like every touch turned into gold there.

I'm not sure if PSG and Ligue 1 are the right environment for him to progress.

He is a very similar player to Rashford. He is a lot more spectacular in his athleticism and has a bit more refined technique at high speed but there isn't that much between them. Two very good players with similar style. Whoever can iron out the small inconsistencies in their game, will end up the more successful player. I think they even look alike.

Mbappe needs to leave Ligue 1 for sure. He’s wasted his career in a one horse league and isn’t get pushed enough to improve. The same thing has happened to Verratti. World class players who have stagnated. Mbappe needs to leave while he is still young. PSG will win the league at a canter every season, he only has a handful of meaningful games every season. It’s a waste of talent.

A very disappointing final, missed a few chances and seemed like Neuer got into his head. I could see his career being a bit like Zidane’s, remembered more for France than for his clubs.

He isn't really that fit. Injuries, lacking match sharpness and no confidence. Same for Rashford, who isnt fit and has zero momentum.

But that was an aculcumulation of Ronaldos achievements. Mbappe is relying more and more on that one goal, that wasnt even great, to define him.
Pogba scored a goal, ran the game yet his big game attitude has constantly shown him up.
All im saying is at 21 he has shown an alarming tendency to flop in front of goal in PSGs biggest games. For all the praise he gets it is constantly ignored as if he is the next BPITW until proven otherwise. He has to turn that around, get out of that club and league. Its my opinion that the best version of Mbape was Monaco Mbappe and he has become a slightly lesser version of that player each year.

If any of our forwards put a performance like that in they’d be slated on here and would definitely have their ability questioned, as has happened

A lot of idiots in this thread should read this. He wasn't at 100% of his abilities. He wasn't even expected to play vs Atalanta

He is rated far higher outside of France than inside of it at least that's what it seems to me.
In France you won't ever hear of anyone comparing him to Neymar or putting him on a similar level.
He's still a terrific player, best off the ball attacker in the world to me, the pace and the movement as well as the ability to time his runs make him a threat at all time and guarantee him several chances per game.
However I don't think that he is the most dangerous player with the ball at his feet, still very competent of course but he's not deserving of these R9 comparisons, his first touch, dribbling and close control are nowhere near R9's.
